I included a short note of
thanks in the bulletin last
week to all those who were
kind enough to wish me well
on the occasion of my 25th
anniversary. Little did I
know how big the crowd
would be. It was really great
to have family and friends
united in prayer and thanksgiving for the anniversary
celebration. Many people have remarked about how joyful
and life-giving the Mass and party were. It really was a lot of
fun. Thanks very much to the planning committee and to all
who attended. I am grateful to have you in my life.
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, celebrating
the Presence of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The first
mention specifically of the trinity is when Jesus tells his disciples to baptize all nations in “the name of the Father, and
the Son and the Holy spirit.” This was a new way of talking
about God for the Jewish people. There were some people
who taught that Jesus was less than God and higher than
human beings – sort of like Superman without the
Kryptonite. The church clarified that Jesus is both truly God
and truly human at the same time. What does that mean then?
It means that there is one God consisting of three distinct persons – Father, Son and Spirit. All three person are responsible for creation, salvation and any other divine action. I
remember a Muslim gentlemen saying that we Christians
have three Gods. We do not believe that either. We believe
in One God and the three persons of God are in divine union.
The divine Persons are who they are by virtue of relationship
to each other. This is all rather confusing. The teachers
always told us, “Just believe it. It’s a mystery.”

Incluí una nota de agradecimiento en el boletín la
semana pasada para todos aquellos que fueron tan
amables en desearme felicitaciones en la ocasión de
mi aniversario sacerdotal 25. No me imagine que tan
grande sería la celebración. Fue un gusto enorme ver
a familiares y amigos unidos en oración y gracias por el
aniversario. Mucha gente comentó que tan hermosa fue
la Misa y la fiesta de recepción. Fue muy divertida.
Muchas gracias al comité de planeación y a todos
aquellos que asistieron. Estoy feliz por tenerlos en
mi vida.
Hoy celebramos el Día de la Santísima Trinidad,
celebrando la Presencia de Dios como Padre, Hijo y
Espíritu Santo. El primero menciona específicamente
de la trinidad cuando Jesús el dice a sus discípulos que
bauticen a todas las naciones en “el nombre del Padre,
del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.” Este era una nueva
forma de hablar de Dios por la gente Judía. Había una
gente que pensaba que Jesús era menos que Dios y más
que los seres humanos – como Superman sin
Kryptonite. La Iglesia carificó que Jesús es ambos Dios
consistiendo de tres personas distintas – Padre, Hijo y
Espíritu. Todas las tres personas son responsables por
la creación, salvación y otras acciones divinas.
Recuerdo a una persona Musulmana que decía nosotros
los Cristianos tienen tres Dioses. Nosotros no creemos
eso tampoco. Creemos en Un Solo Dios y tres personas
de Dios como una unión divina. Las Personas divinas
son quienes son por virtud de relación con sus
semejantes. Eso da un poco de confusión.
Los maestros siempre nos dijeron,
“Solo cree. Es un misterio.”
