Dear friends ~ Queridos amigos,
Our 2015 San Gabriel Regional Congress theme, Follow Me, invites us to look to Jesus to be our guide, to follow Him in all
things.
At this year’s congress, we are excited for you to meet our new Director of the Office of Religious Education, Fr. Chris
Bazyouros. Fr. Chris has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for twelve years and a member of the Office of
Religious Education for the past two years. You will have the chance to hear from Fr. Chris at Morning Prayer, and to welcome him
afterward.
We hope you shared our excitement when, at the end of July, Pope Francis appointed three new Auxiliary Bishops for the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Recently, Archbishop Jose Gomez named Bishop-elect David O’Connell to be the Auxiliary Bishop for
the San Gabriel Pastoral Region. Bishop O’Connell was ordained a priest in Ireland, assigned to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and
has served most of his ministry in parishes in South Central Los Angeles. We are delighted to let you know that Bishop O’Connell
will spend the day with us at Regional Congress! He is excited to meet all of you and to get to know you. He will give two
workshops on the topic Gospel Reflections in Community, one in English, and the same topic in Spanish. Besides spending the
whole day with us, he will be with us to conclude our time together with the closing liturgy. I hope you can join us.
As we approach the Jubilee Year of Mercy, we will encounter a time of growth and learning for our Church, along with
wonderful opportunities to work with our new leaders. Jesus invites us on a new journey, as He urges us to . . . Follow Me!
Nuestra tema del Congreso Regional 2015 de San Gabriel, Sígueme, nos invita a mirar a Jesús para que Él sea nuestro
guía, y para seguirlo en todas las cosas.
Este año en el congreso, estamos animados a que conozcan al nuevo Director de la Oficina de Educación Religiosa, Padre
Chris Bazyouros. El Padre Chris ha sido un sacerdote de la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles por doce años y miembro de la Oficina
de Educación Religiosa por los últimos dos años. Ustedes van a tener la oportunidad de escuchar al Padre Chris, darle la bienvenida
y saludarlo en la Oración de la mañana.
A finales de Julio, con mucha emoción recibimos una gran noticia cuando el Papa Francisco nombró tres nuevos Obispos
Auxiliares para la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Recientemente, el Arzobispo José Gómez nombró como Obispo Auxiliar para la
Región de San Gabriel al recientemente ordenado Obispo elegido David O’Connell. El Obispo O’Connell fue ordenado sacerdote en
Irlanda para servir en la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles y también ha servido la mayoría de su ministerio en parroquias en Sur Centro
de Los Angeles. ¡Estoy feliz de anunciarles que el Obispo O’Connell va pasar el día con nosotros en el Congreso Regional! Él está

In many respects, disciples are leaders, but what kind of leaders? There are certain traits and behaviors that
combine together to make someone a great leader. How can you lead others with vision and purpose? How can you
use your time efficiently and communicate in ways to help others while also helping yourself? Come explore the top
10 things that define great leadership.
Gabriel Reyes is a native of Southern California who has served in the (Arch)dioceses of Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino as a
leader in Youth Ministry and Confirmation. He also serves as a speaker, music/worship leader, and retreat leader. Gabriel holds a B.A. in
Psychology (Christian Counseling), and is pursuing a M.A. in Executive Leadership. He currently serves as Youth Minister at St. James in
Redondo Beach.

YT 2 I HAVE A LIFE, YOU KNOW!
Are you feeling like you are too busy and can't handle
everything in your life? Well, you are not alone. Most
teenagers, or people in general, nowadays are finding
it difficult to find balance. Balancing all that we do is
hard but not impossible. Come find out how you can
balance sports, school, family, friends...life and still
have time for ministry. With God at our center
anything is possible.
My name is Dayrin Perez. I am a Youth Ministry Director at
Sacred Heart in Covina. I have been involved in ministry ever since
I was confirmed (so about 15 years). Having my family with me in
ministry is one of the things that makes me really happy. I love
cheese pizza, sweet potato fries, the beach and I would never leave
California! Oh and I could play games all day.

Faith. It’s the foundation for everything you do as a
peer leader. But what happens when you leave the
Church property? Pope Francis challenges us to live as
missionary disciples wherever we are, 365 days a year.

Katie Zeigler serves the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as Coordinator
of Youth Ministry in the Office of Religious Education. Her previous
ministry experience includes parish Youth Ministry/Confirmation
Coordinator, retreat facilitator, campus ministry team member, and
parish RCIA team member. She has been a speaker at the National
Conference for Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM), and is a member
of the National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders
(NACYML). Katie holds an M.A. in Pastoral Theology from Loyola
Marymount University.

1-01 A CATECHIST’S GUIDE TO FEASTS
AND SEASONS
Children love rituals and celebrations, perfect ways to
discover the richness of our Catholic faith! In this
workshop, we will explore the customs and traditions
that help elementary students celebrate our saints and
grow closer to Jesus through the liturgical seasons.
Traveling through the church year, you will learn
creative activities and fun crafts to help your students
and their families embrace their Catholic heritage for
years to come!

How do we as
individual Christians in the Catholic community dare
to trust and proclaim the glory of that Christ has
shown us by Faith?
Melanie Bailey has a Master’s degree in Theology and is currently
Coordinator of Catechetical Programs at Holy Name of Mary
Church in San Dimas, CA. Involved in parish ministries for 17
years, she loves sharing our Catholic faith with elementary students
and field-tests all of her best ideas on her two children.
Fr. Ken Deasy joined Saint John’s Seminary and went on to serve
as a parish priest at Saint Monica, Saint Bernardine of Siena and
Saint Agatha, where he was pastor for 11 years. Outside of parish
ministry, Fr. Ken became more involved in global missionary work
and detention ministry. More recently, he has served as director of
the Archdiocesan Holy Childhood Association. That involvement led
him to travel to impoverished areas of the world, most notably,
Haiti and South Sudan. Throughout his priestly ministry Fr. Ken
has been an impassioned advocate for youth and young adults and
participated in and/or directed over 50 retreats for that age group.
He is also a published author, most recently of the provocatively
named title: Get Off the Cross, Someone Else Needs the Wood.
1-02 BORN CONTEMPLATIVE:
1-04 “GO, THEREFORE, AND MAKE
Deep within all of us there is a longing for silence. It is
the silence we knew in the womb. It is the silence we
knew during our first year of life when we didn't talk or
think. Because of the pressures of life we've lost touch
with that silence. Christian Meditation helps us to
reconnect with that silence. As we find it we find God,
peace, rest. Children respond naturally and easily to
meditation. It is not that long since they knew the
silence of the womb. Father Frank Cassidy will talk
about the growth and development of Children's
Meditation in schools across the world.
We are called to be Co-Creators with God. Called to
imitate Jesus, the Master Teacher. This is a workshop
of ideas, songs, prayers, and activities to inspire your
creativity as you walk with the children toward God.
DISCIPLES”… ME LORD?
CHILDREN AND MEDITATION
Fr. Frank Cassidy has been a priest in the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles for fifty-five years. He has been a keen believer in the
power of Christian meditation for many years. Though he is still
involved in parish work, his retirement in 1995 opened the door for
him to devote more time to teaching meditation through giving
talks, workshops, retreats and working with children in the
classroom setting.

Like the many saints, all of us have been given a
unique "glory experience" particular to our own Divine
callings. Though a dare can be commonly perceived as

LEARNING
Life-long learning and a personal commitment to
catechesis in your parish inspires a deeper relationship
with Jesus Christ and His Church. This workshop will
discuss aspects of personal and communal prayer as it
relates to your ministry; ever growing in grace and
sharing the gift of faith for decades to come.
Warren G. Kunkle III is presently an educational consultant for
William H. Sadlier Inc. He is a Master Catechist and volunteers in
his parish as the High School Confirmation Parent Formation
Coordinator. He has also served as a Parish Administrator, Youth
Minister/Confirmation Coordinator and a variety of other
ministries over the past 25 years. With his wife, Elga and their three
teen-age sons, a broader understanding of the realities of our
“domestic” church and its unique challenges, will be forefront in this
presentation.

1-06 WHAT EVERY SERIOUS
CHRISTIAN SHOULD KNOW
ABOUT JUDAISM
Did you know that Judaism is much more than the
religion of the Hebrew Bible? Did you know that Jews
have sacred literature beyond the Hebrew Bible (as we
have our own "New Testament")? Did you know that
Jews mean something completely different than
Christians when we speak of the Messiah, sin,
redemption, salvation, repentance and forgiveness?
Come and question, learn and explore with Rabbi
Michael Lotker, author of "A Christian's Guide to
Judaism" published by the Paulist Press.
Rabbi Michael Lotker comes to us with a wealth of experience.
A Phi Beta Kappa/Magna Cum Laude physicist, he spent the bulk of
his first career in the alternative energy business, working in
windpower, solar and geothermal energy. About 500 of the
windmills that are spinning in Palm Springs, California were
financed and installed by a company that Mike was President of.
In 2003, he was ordained as a rabbi at Hebrew Union College in
Los Angeles, where he also received his Master of Hebrew Letters
degree. He is presently Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Ner Ami in
Camarillo, California, and Community Rabbi for the Jewish
Federation of Ventura County. In addition to his studies, Mike has
published a book for the Paulist Press entitled "A Christian's Guide
to Judaism."
1-07 BULLYING AT CATHOLIC
SCHOOLS - ARE WE ADDRESSING
THE NEEDS OF LGBT STUDENTS?
Anti-bullying campaigns are now quite commonplace
at secular/public schools with many having formed
Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs and addressing the
issues of LGBT bullying head on. What are parochial
schools doing to address these issues? Speakers and
audience will dialogue on best practices. Session will
also provide suicide awareness/intervention training.
Frank McKown is Co-Chair of the L.A. Archdiocese's Catholic
Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Persons (CMLGP), founded in 1986
by Cardinal Mahoney. The Ministry is the oldest such organization
in the nation and provides a safe and welcoming environment for
lesbians and gay persons through liturgy, outreach, education, and
fellowship. Mr. McKown has planned and led liturgies and retreats
on a variety of topics and has spoken at Regional Congresses since
2010. A lifelong Angelino, he received degrees from UCLA and
Pepperdine and works in the Aerospace industry.
1-08 THE FIVE SENSES FOR A LIVING
FAITH
In the natural world we have five senses: hearing,
seeing, tasting, smelling and touching. In the spiritual
realm we also have five senses with corresponding
capacities that open us to God's presence, and draws
us closer to one another.
Kay Murdy has a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from
Mount St. Mary's College, and is a Master Catechist for the Los
Angeles Archdiocese. Kay is a member of the teaching and
coordinating team of the Catholic Bible Institute co-sponsored by the
Archdiocese Office of Religious Education and Loyola Marymount
University. Kay has written five books on scripture and spirituality
for Resource Publications, and one for Ligouri Publications. Her
novel, Song of the Dove, a story of Mary of Nazareth, was published
by ACTA, 2014.
1-09 GOSPEL REFLECTION IN
COMMUNITY
Bishop O’Connell will teach us a process of reflecting
on the Gospels. He has found this prayer form very
helpful as part of a Gospel centered pastoral practice in
the family and in parish life.
Bishop David O’Connell is originally from County Cork, Ireland.
Bishop O'Connell studied at All Hallows College in Dublin and was
ordained to the priesthood in 1979 for the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles. He has served in various parishes in Los Angeles, mostly in
south Los Angeles, and his last assignment was as Pastor of St.
Frances X. Cabrini in Los Angeles. August 2015, Bishop O’Connell
was elected by Pope Frances to serve as an Auxiliary Bishop for the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles and was appointed by Archbishop Jose
Gomez as Episcopal Vicar for San Gabriel Pastoral Region.
1-10 LET’S PLAY AND PRAY!!
What do the words "play" and "pray" have in common,
other than rhyming? Well, both words start with the
letter "p", are one syllable and can be action verbs.
Okay, agreed! But what common characteristics do
"play" and "pray” share in our faith formation
programs? Come and learn how to help young
children express themselves through creative use of
their imagination and an awareness of our loving God
through spontaneous prayer. Come and explore your
inner child who can't wait to meet you!
Jan Pedroza is the Coordinator for Early Childhood Faith
Formation, Program Coordinator for the Religious Education
Congress and Master Catechist for the Office of Religious Education,
Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Jan has been involved in Early
Childhood education since 1993. She has been a member of the Los
Angeles Archdiocese Early Childhood Board for 16 years. Jan has
two grown daughters and a teenage son who still helps her prepare
crafts for the workshops she teaches! She has presented at the
RECongress in Anaheim, and at the regional congresses throughout
the L.A. Archdiocese.

MESSAGE OF WELCOME AND
COMPASSION
Pope Francis will be leading us in a Year of Mercy, but
it is up to us as preachers and teachers to give our
parishioners and students ways to make mercy a part
of our family and community as well as our culture.
We will share curriculum resources and preaching
ideas that you can use in the parish bulletin, age
appropriate class ideas and Sunday homily hints. We
sing "All are welcome" but how do we make this true in
our parish or school? We sing "Christ be our light" but
how are we bringing light, hope, healing and welcome
to our local community?
Fr. Christopher Ponnet was ordained for Los Angeles
Archdiocese 1983, Fr. Ponnet is Pastor and chaplain at St. Camilus
Center for Spiritual Care. He also serves as Director of Office of
Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry, Board of Death Penalty Focus, Pax
Christi USA, Angel Interfaith Network, Catholic Ministry with Gay
and Lesbian persons and Interfaith Communities United for Justice
and Peace.

THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS:
COMPANIONS TO THE
LITURGICAL YEAR
Discover how the mystery of Christ is revealed to us
throughout the Catholic liturgical year. As models of
Christian discipleship, the saints express how to live
and pray in this world. This workshop will present
ways to include the lives of the saints in classroom
prayer and catechesis. Participants in this session will
include everyone: school teachers, catechists, RCIA
teams, liturgists, and musicians.
Michael Ruzicki serves as Editor and Liturgical Training
Consultant for Liturgy Training Publications and the Director of
Music for Notre Dame de Chicago Parish. In addition to having
served as a team member of the North American Forum on the
Catechumenate, Michael has experience as a parish pastoral
associate and archdiocesan coordinator of adult faith formation
and RCIA and director of archdiocesan music ministry. He is a
graduate of The Catholic University of America and the
Washington Theological Union in Washington, DC.

Suzette Sornborger is Director of Youth Faith Formation at St.
Monica Catholic Community. She graduated from LMU with a BA in
Dance with an emphasis in sacred movement. She also has a MA in
Pastoral Theology. She also holds her Master Catechist certification
from the Archdiocese and teaches with various teams across Our
Lady of Angels Pastoral Region. She currently serves on the
Advisory Board of the Theology Department for Graduate students
at LMU. Suzette and her husband Jon have been married for 27
years. They have 3 children. She brings 25+ years of experience in
ministry, but her heart is in building strong Catholic families across
the ages.

and bad times of life. He is the Shepherd leading us
through rocky mountain paths and dark valleys in life.
Fr. Norm Supancheck was born in Long Beach and went to St.
John's Seminary. Ordained in 1968 and have served in several
parishes. Was Campus Minister at Cal State University for 8 years
and now in Campus Minister at Bp. Alemany High School for 12
years. Worked with EPJ, YES, Engaged Encounter, Marriage
Encounter Retrouvaille and Scouting. Presently Campus Chaplain
at Bp. Alemany, residing at St. Didacus Parish in Sylmar. Wrote
autobiography: "Called By Love, A Memoir of Great Devotion"

Joan Vos started working at her first parish at St. Mel in
Woodland Hills, in 1976. Then left Los Angeles in 1979 to pursue a
Master of Arts in Liturgical Music at the University of Notre Dame.
After graduating, she worked in Toronto at various parishes and on
the Diocesan Music Commission; established and managed the
Office of Worship in Wichita, Kansas; wrote and published
“Celebrating School Liturgies: Guidelines for Planning,” published
by Liturgical Press in 1990. (Now out of print!) Since returning to
Los Angeles in 1992, and while raising three daughters, she has
worked in various parishes. Joan was also a member of Cardinal
Mahoney’s Committee for the writing of “Gather Faithfully
Together”. She is currently Director of Liturgy and Music at Church
of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills.

TO ENGAGE PARENTS IN FAITH
FORMATION
The National Directory for Catechesis states that
parents are the first educators of faith for their
children (234), and yet, the most common complaint
of catechists is that parents are not fulfilling this role.
This workshop will provide ideas and insights into
empowering parents to be more engaged in faith
formation and ministers of their own Domestic
Church.
Cristina Alba is the Director of Religious Education at St. John
Vianney in Hacienda Heights as well as a Master Catechist. A wife
and mother of two young children, she is passionate about family
religious formation. Over the past 10 years, she has developed a
successful Family Catechesis program at her parish. She also serves
as a Young Adult Ministry Coordinator, Loyola Press Ministry
Consultant and VIRTUS Facilitator.
2-02 UNOPENED LETTERS FROM GOD
Spirituality is all about being aware and awake to
God’s presence all around us. God spoke through
dreams in the Bible. Are you paying attention to
yours? Learn some ways of reflecting and praying
about your dreams in order to be more aware of what
is going on in your life and what the next invitation
from God might be! This all pervasive love of Christ
does not stop when we go to sleep or while we dream.
Sr. Kathleen Bryant is a Religious Sister of Charity, a workshop
presenter and retreat facilitator. Sr. Kathleen has a Masters Degree
in Spirituality from USF and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from
Graduate Theological Foundation.

GUIDELINES
An exploration of foundational liturgical principles for
teachers in Catholic Schools and in Religious
Education Programs, when preparing students for
liturgy, including Eucharistic liturgy and morning
prayer. We will also discuss creating an environment

Whether you are no tech, low tech, or high tech this
important workshop will explore who this generation
of teens is, how their brains work, and ways we can use
technology to better catechize and share our faith.
A workshop on forgiveness, healing and hope. This is
an opportunity to revive the spirit and life in the
participants through understanding of the need to
forgive, to heal wounds and move forward in life with
joy and hope.
GETTING TO KNOW THE TEENAGE
CHURCH
Raquel Cagigas’s calling and ministry began on the grounds of
Mission San Gabriel; this was her parish, elementary and high
school. She studied at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga
graduating in 2000 with a BS in Psychology and Religious Studies.
She has a MA for a Multicultural Church from Franciscan School of
Theology in Berkeley, California. She has worked as a High School
Youth Ministry, Confirmation Coordinator and she is currently
teaching religion, psychology and is Assistant Principal Dean of
Student Life at San Gabriel Mission High School. Raquel was
commissioned in 2012 as a Master Catechist for the state of
California and has been a High School Confirmation program
consultant, curriculum developer, and team facilitator.
2-04 DIVINE MERCY IN THE LIVES OF
NOTORIOUS SINNERS
The Church offers the stories of the lives of the saints
for us to examine and find inspiration for our own lives
and search for holiness. The problem is that most of
us haven’t heard of too many saints who were actually
pretty notorious sinners. Many people today feel guilty
about their past sins and believe that God could never
really love them because of the things that they did. In
ministry, this is often the unspoken barrier that keeps
them from progressing further in holiness and more
complete participation. This workshop is going to look
at the stories of several saints who committed horrible
sins and yet, through the mercy and grace of God, they
repented and became official saints in our Church.
Come meet a fallen woman, an anti-pope, and a mass
murderer who all became saints through the mercy of
God and their cooperation with His grace!
Jennifer Campbell has been involved in religious education for
over 25 years.
In addition to volunteering in her parish
catechetical programs, she taught full time in Archdiocesan high
schools for 14 years and was the Theology Chair at Bishop Amat
High School for 10 years. She served on the Archdiocesan Religion
Standards Board for High Schools, was a Catholic school
elementary principal,
and has overseen all levels of parish
catechetical formation at her home parish. Jenny has an M.A. in
Applied Spiritual Theology and is a certified StrengthsFinder
coach. She lives in the southland with her husband, has 4 children
and 6 grandchildren.

making relevant what Gospel values mean today to all
age levels.

Sr. Marjorie Guingona, SAC is a member of a small
international religious order, the Congregation of the Guardian
Angel Sister founded in Quilian, France in 1839. She has a Masters
in Pastoral Ministry with a major in Spirituality & Retreat Giving
from the Loyola School of Theology and a Masters in Religious
Education at De La Salle University in the Philippines. She has
worked in the missions in southern Philippines for several years
among the indigenous people and as a Religious Educator and
Retreat Facilitator to different groups especially among young
people.

Nancy Longo has been involved in parish ministry for the past
22 years as DRE and Youth Minister. She is a Master Catechist,
has her Advanced Bible Institute Certificate and the National
Youth Ministry Certificate. Nancy loves her family – who are
spread across the United States, 7 grown children (his, mine and
ours) and 14 grandchildren! She loves Jesus and her passion is to
use technology to share the Good News!

Rabbi Lotker discusses how his religious faith is
informed and strengthened by his scientific training
and 30 year career as a physicist. He will discuss the

workshops to parents, youth and couples preparing for marriage/

What exactly does a parish liturgist do? S/he is the hub
of a very large wheel, and is the person who keeps the
wheel rolling and the spokes glued in place. It all

communication. The liturgist guides the process by
which a participatory and hospitable environment
develops.

2-16 KEYS TO UNLOCKING THE
LABYRINTH
The labyrinth is a meditation tool whereby participants
walk contemplatively along a path leading to a center
point for a deep sense of prayer and understanding. A
“step-by-step” process will invite the participant to
examine his or her own spiritual journey and
experience the peace and tranquility the labyrinth has
to offer. The session will incorporate Old Testament
themes, Catholic spirituality, nature and ritual and
their connection to the labyrinth. Whether you have
walked the labyrinth for years or if it is your first time,
you will be introduced to new insights and revelations
about this ancient meditation tool. Part of the
workshop will include walking the labyrinth as a
group.
Luella Wagner has taught for over 20 years at both the
elementary and high school levels. She has taught internationally in
Sao Paulo, Brazil, and in the mission field in American Samoa. She
recently spent a year teaching on the Northern Cheyenne Indian
Reservation in southeastern Montana. Wagner has been a
presenter at Regional Congresses of the Los Angeles Archdiocese
and has conducted retreats and workshops throughout the Los
Angeles area.

will place Young Adult ministries (including marriage
prep, RCIA and others) in the context of the Church's
catechetical teaching to address practical challenges
and opportunities.
Jason Coito is the Coordinator for Young Adult Formation for the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Office of Religious Education. He has
been ministering with high school and college students for 12 years
in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Jason, his wife Jen, and their

Dione Grillo is the Consultant Advanced Catechetical Ministries
and Basic Catechist Formation for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Formerly she served as Elementary Consultant for the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles and Director of Children's Ministry at St. John
Eudes Church in Chatsworth, CA. While her educational
background prepared her to attend law school, she opted instead to
answer the call to service. She has served on the Early Childhood
Board for 13 years and has presented workshops at the L.A.
Religious Education Congress, Regional Congresses, and parishes.
3-07 CONFIRMATION - ROAD TO
DISCIPLESHIP OR GRADUATION?
Studies have indicated that over 75% of those
confirmed in high school will no longer be active in the
Catholic Church. With this dire statistic, what can be
done to change this? What are practical ideas to keep
those confirmed involved in their Catholic faith?
What are current programs that are
addressing this topic and what makes them so
different than what has been done before?
Jim Knowles is the Diocesan Representative for Ascension Press,
working with Diocesan Offices in the West. His background includes
Catholic Publishing, Diocesan and parish Youth Ministry and served
as the Executive Director for the NFCYM. Jim is married and lives in
Loveland, CO and has two adult children, who are also recently
married.
The secular and the spiritual often unexpectedly
converge. Biblical themes are hidden where we and
our students might least expect them--in drama,
action/adventure & comedy.
3-08 “REFLECTIONS ON REBUILT”
Timothy Crehan, M.A. Theology, worked in documentary
television production for various shows that have aired on The
History Channel, truTV, Spike TV, and G4. He currently serves as
an official reader for the HUMANITAS Prize, honoring film &
television writers who both entertain and inspire. Timothy teaches
full-time in the Theology Department at Immaculate Heart High
School in Los Angeles, CA.
Msgr. Timothy Nichols was born and raised in the San Gabriel
Valley. After attending La Salle High School in Pasadena, he
entered St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo in 1965 and was ordained
a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1973. He has an
M.Div. and M. A. in Religion. He is currently Pastor of St. John
Vianney Church in Hacienda Heights with 21,000 registered
members.
3-05 FORGIVE! - IT’S YOUR DECISION
3-09 BEYOND OUR EYESIGHT:
Forgive! But how? We are hurt by others through
words and actions and the natural reaction to this is
not to forgive, but rather to be angry or sad. Still, Jesus
commands us to forgive as a precondition for the
forgiveness of our own mistakes. But how? If
forgiveness is a decision, than it can be made in faith
and consciousness. It can be the starting point of a
process of letting go of the anger and of inner healing,
of coming to peace with what happened not by
forgetting, but by reconciling with it. We will discuss
experiences with forgiveness and with not forgiving
and the various aspects of forgiving others.
Dominik Gnirs is the consultant for Adult Faith Formation at the
Office of Religious Education in Los Angeles - Masters in Theology
from the University of Vienna, Austria and BSc. in Business and
Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany – former
Coordinator at the Kardinal Konig Haus Education Center and
Assistant at the Institute for Practical Theology in Vienna Theological focus on social ethics and pastoral theology, values and
leadership.
7% of our Baptized Catholics attend Mass weekly. We

APPRECIATING GOD’S
BRILLIANCE IN NATURE
This is a "Godfest" of nature in the universe! We will
explore and discover God's majesty through nature's
beauty as seen beyond our eyesight. Using everything
from microscopes to telescopes, the detail of God's
imagination is awesome. As a scientist, I ask nature
"How do you do that"? But our faith teaches us the
"Why Did God Do That"? God's creation has never
stopped since he first began, and being witness to the
natural cycles is one of life's greatest joys. Come along
to see things never seen before; "jaw drops" and
"Wow!" are guaranteed!
Tom Nolan studies Earth from Space at NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory . Looking at God's universe through a microscope and a
telescope, he sees Divine Majesty and beauty in all of nature. Tom’s
parish is Holy Name of Mary in San Dimas. He has served on may
Cursillo Teams since 1995. He is also active in Matthew Kelly's
Dynamic Catholic evangelization efforts.

ways to find a positive, faith-filled approach to any

CONSECRATED RELIGIOUS LIFE AN UNSOLVED MYSTERY
Pope Francis declared the Year of Consecrated Life be
celebrated throughout the world, Nov. 2014 - Feb.
2016. Come learn why this year is so special. This
session will include a panel of religious from different
communities. It will be a great opportunity to learn
how to explain to young people about this important,
joy filled vocation in our Church, as well as answer
questions. Religious life won’t seem so mysterious
after participating in this session.
Sr. Val Roxburgh and the other religious panel participants are
members of the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) in
Southern California.
3-12 YOU CAN BE AN AMAZING
CATECHIST… HERE’S HOW
This workshop will give you practical insights to make
your classroom come alive. You will learn how to
creatively develop a lesson, prayer experiences that
work, and motivation exercises that can be
accomplished in your sessions with your students
engaged hands on in the process. Handouts will be
available for you to take and implement what you
learned immediately.
H. Marie Slaton is currently the Director of Religious Education
at Our Lady of Malibu Parish. Marie is a Master Catechist, a
graduate of the LMU Bible Institute and assists with Virtus training
sessions. Her ideas have been published in various resources.
Besides speaking at the Regional Congresses, she shares her ideas
with others throughout the United States. She has a BS from ISU
and an MA from the University of Evansville.

PLANTED
So many times we find ourselves not where we want to
be and wondering what we did to get there and what
we can do to get out of it. Based on the book of Jonah
and the wisdom of St. Therese of Lisieux, this
workshop will teach us not only to accept the
conditions that God sends us, but to embrace them
and thrive in them.
Forgiveness, discernment,
patience, and the rewards that come with it will be
talked about. Luella will share her personal story of
courage, forgiveness, survival, and triumph.

This workshop will set out to equip ministry leaders,
educators and staff with the ability to recognize the
symptoms and indicators of mental health risk factors
and develop skills and capabilities when they are
presented with them.
Anne Wrotniewski, MSW, is a Social Work Case Manager of
Catholic Charities assigned to liaise and work with parishes
providing information and resources needed to help clients in need
at the local level. Anne is a trained facilitator in Mental Health First
Aid USA and provides the training to staff and community
members.

Fr. Chris Bazyourous nació y creció en el Valle de San Gabriel.
Entró al Seminario de San Juan después de haber recibido una
licenciatura en Química. Fue ordenado en 2003, actualmente sirve a
la arquidiócesis como Director de la oficina de Educación Religiosa.
También sirve en la Comisión Litúrgica Arquidiocesana.

Fr. Mariano de Blas L.C. es un sacerdote Legionario de Cristo,
nacido en Ávila, España. Realizo sus estudios primarios en
Ontaneda, Santander. Termino Humanidades Clásicas en
Salamanca, España y estudio Filosofía y Teología en la
Universidad Pontificia Gregoriana de Roma, donde obtuvo el
grado de Licenciatura en Filosofía. Ha desarrollado una intensa
actividad de formación de jóvenes y matrimonios como Director del
CEYCA y del Instituto Cumbres, en la ciudad de México. En
Monterrey y Guadalajara, México ha conducido grupos juveniles y
fungió como consejero matrimonial. Dirigió un Centro Empresarial
de Superación Personal y fue asesor de valores en el Instituto
Andes, de San Luis Potosí, donde dirigió un centro de Formación
Familiar. Actualmente radica en Los Ángeles, California,
colaborando en la estación Guadalupe Radio y en televisión, con el
programa "La Alegría de Vivir.” Es un experto en los medios de
comunicación social. Ha escrito diez libros. Se destaca por su
capacidad de motivación para vivir la vida con amor, alegría y
esperanza.

En esta clase examinaremos nuestra relación personal
con este hombre radical llamado Jesús…un hombre
que casi ni conocemos. Como Católicos, somos
llamados a vivir nuestras vidas como Jesús la vivió,
pero ¿cómo lo podemos hacer si muchas veces no lo
conocemos verdaderamente? ¡El Papa Francisco ha
hecho un llamado que haiga un cambio en la Iglesia,
un llamado a comenzar de Nuevo, empezando con
Jesús!

Isela Magallanes ha trabajado con jóvenes por 15 años. Lo que
empezó como trabajo voluntario de pronto se convirtió en una
misión amada. Isela enseñó clases de Confirmación por siete años
y continúa dando temas para retiros de jóvenes y adultos, el
Ministerio de Jóvenes, y el Congreso Regional. Ella ha enseñado
desde kínder hasta RICA, pero su amor permanece guiando a los
jóvenes. Isela recibió su diploma en Sociología de CSULB y
actualmente trabaja como Oficial de Correcciones en una Juvenil.
Alma E. Plascencia ha trabajado en Educación Religiosa
durante 35 años.
Su experiencia incluye el programa de
confirmación, el ministerio juvenil, retiros, consejería comunitaria,
cuidado comunitario, y directora de educación religiosa. Alma
también estableció y coordina, “Buscando El Rostro de Cristo”, un
programa dirigido a dar de comer y servir a los desamparados de
la ciudad.
Ramona Meza, es Maestra de catequistas por mas de 20 años,
con experiencia en Educación Religiosa de niños, jovenes y adultos.
Conferencista en Congresos Regionales y en Retiros de Catequistas
y padres de familia. Presentadora de talleres de preparación en
tiempos litúrgicos y cursos avanzados de Elemental. Es miembro
del comité del Congreso de Educación Religiosa de Anaheim, del
Consejo Hispano de Cursos Avanzados y del Equipo de Elemental.

Dr. O'Brien-Rothe ha sido consultora y profesora de liturgia y de
los ministerios litúrgicos en Inglés y Español para la Oficina de
Culto en Los Ángeles y San Bernardino, en varias parroquias, y
para el Instituto de Religión y Espiritualidad en la Universidad de
Loyola Marymount por más de 35 años. Ella tiene mucha
experiencia trabajando con la comunidad hispana y ella comenzó
como misionera de Maryknoll en Guatemala. Dr. O'Brien tiene su
Doctorado en Ethnomusicology con un énfasis en la música ritual y
en la música de los Mayas.

1-23 TEOLOGÍA Y CATEQUESIS
Nos sentimos extraños ante el lenguaje original usado
por los evangelistas para la mayoría de hombres y
mujeres de nuestro tiempo. En este taller intentaremos
aproximarnos al mensaje que aquellas personas
querían dar a sus contemporáneos y que nosotros las
leemos dos milenios más tarde. Haremos hincapié a lo
que querían decir al narrar ciertos acontecimientos
como el nacimiento de Jesús, las bienaventuranzas,
algunas acciones singulares de Jesús, la relación de
Jesús con las mujeres, etc.
Dar catequesis es una forma de hacer teología, de
hecho los primeros documentos teológicos fueron
escritos para catequizar. En este taller los participantes
conocerán qué es hacer teología, cuáles son los
elementos de la teología católica y cómo desarrollar un
método que permita a los catequistas unir los
contenidos de la fe con la vida cotidiana de nuestros
catequizandos.
Cesar Padilla es originario de El Salvador. Graduado en
Ingeniería Agronómica en la Universidad Nacional del Noroeste,
Argentina. Estudios Avanzados de Biblia, Catequesis, y Liturgia
Avanzada. Actualmente colabora con la Arquidiócesis de los
Ángeles impartiendo Cursos Básicos de Catequesis en la Formación
de Maestros de Catequistas. Además trabaja en diversos
ministerios en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Valle, Canoga
Park.
José Antonio Medina obtuvo su doctorado en teología por la
Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca en España. Es profesor en
diversos Institutos de formación superior de California y Nevada.
Ha escrito varios libros entre los que destacan "Diálogos Semanales
con Jesús" "Temas calientes para jóvenes cristianos" "Vivir el
presente, imaginar el futuro", "Con el corazón lleno de alegría",
entre otros. Actualmente es consultor para la Conferencia de
Obispos de California y Director de la Oficina de la Formación
Continua de los Sacerdotes de la Diócesis de San Bernardino.

El mensaje lanzado en la catequesis debe hacerse vivo
para despertar el interés de los catequizandos y para
que siga haciendo "Eco" en su mente y en su Corazón.
Catequista despierta tu creatividad para que tus
catequesis sean activas, dando luz al entendimiento de
tus catequizandos. Y vivan más intensamente los
tiempos litúrgicos de la Iglesia. Se les darán ideas para
estos tiempos. (en la columna que sigue)
El catequista es educador en la fe, maestro y testigo de
Cristo con una formación integral que abarca distintos
aspectos de nuestra doctrina católica; en el
conocimiento de nuestra fe, en la oración, en la vida
moral, en la vida litúrgica, etc. Celebramos y nos
reunimos en la iglesia, pero muchas veces no
conocemos lo que hay dentro de ella, como vamos a
explicar a nuestros niños o adultos que es un ambón,
un altar, el tabernáculo, la sede presidencial, los
colores litúrgicos, los objetos y vestimentas litúrgicas,
para estos vamos a conocer un poco más de la iglesia
como lugar sagrado. El ministerio de arte y
ambientación de iglesia favorece la participación plena
y consciente y contribuye a catequizar a los fieles y dar
dignidad a nuestro espacio sagrado.

la fe esta situada en el hogar. Este taller se presentaran
cinco ideas para fomentar, crecer y apoyar la catequesis
en el hogar. Ideas y manualidades creativas serán parte
de la conversación. La meta de este taller es de equipar
a los catequistas para que luego ellos puedan fortalecer
la catequesis en nuestras casas.

Víctor Valenzuela es consultor bilingüe a nivel nacional de
William H. Sadlier Inc. Por más de 20 años ha estado trabajando en
el ministerio hispano. Ha sido maestro de secundaria y ha
colaborado en diversos ministerios parroquiales incluyendo
pastoral juvenil y educación religiosa, donde tiene una gran
experiencia preparando materiales. Terminó sus estudios superiores
en el seminario St. Joseph en Mountain View, California y tiene dos

23 de Mayo del 2015 en El Salvador y pronto será
canonizado. Romero fue la voz de los que no tienen
voz.

Trabajo pastoralmente en El Salvador desde 1977 hasta 1992. Fue

parroquias de El Salvador en la formación de agentes de pastoral y
catequistas. Es formador de catequistas desde 1998 al presente en
Los Angeles. Es director de liturgia certificado por la arquidiócesis y
director del RICA en Maria Inmaculada, Pacoima. Es conferencista
en los congresos regionales de la arquidiócesis de Los Angeles y en
los dias de formacion liturgica.
Jennifer Vargas-Stolper se graduó de la Universidad
Politécnica de California en Pomona con una especialización en
Dirección de Marketing. Ha sido Directora de Proyectos para
Fairplex en el departamento de entretenimiento y también una
coordinadora del programa en el Cesar E. Chávez Centro para la
Educación Superior en Cal Poly Pomona. Jennifer ha sido
catequista en la parroquia trabajando con los niños más pequeños
mientras se preparan para celebrar sus sacramentos. Formación
en la Fe corre en su familia cuando ella enseñó en la parroquia
donde su madre era la Directora de Educación Religiosa.
Carmen Vargas tiene más de 20 años de experiencia como
Coordinadora de Educación Religiosa, tanto en el nivel primario y
de la confirmación. Ella es una Catequista Maestro, un graduado
del Instituto Católico de la Biblia y en Ministro Pastoral.

de conocer los temas fundamentales que contienen y a
que estamos llamados como Iglesia. Esta conferencia

de discernimiento en RICA? No solo porque la persona

preparación para la vida sacramental cuando personas
no están listas para pasar a la siguiente etapa del
proceso. ¿Qué preguntas se deben de hacer y quienes
son las personas que deben de tener esta conversación
para discernir si la persona esta respondiendo al
llamado del Señor?
El Padre Richard Vega es Pastor de Santa Francisca de Roma en
Azusa, California. El ha sido un presentador para la Arquidiócesis
de Los Ángeles y Chicago en Liturgia y Catequesis. El Padre Vega
además de su servicio a nivel Arquidiocesano y parroquial, ha
servido a la Iglesia a nivel nacional en el "North American FORUM"
en catecumenado y en el "Concilio Nacional de la Federación para
Sacerdotes".

Jennifer Ayon ha servido como Catequista de Educación Religiosa
por 10 años primero con niños y después como instructora de
Confirmación. Jennifer recibió una Maestría de Ciencias en
Consejería y un Bachillerato de Ciencias en Servicios de
Rehabilitación; su énfasis es en ayudar a personas con
discapacidades a lograr sus metas personales, sociales y
vocacionales. Actualmente ella es una Maestra Catequista para la
Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles.

Este taller será un estudio Bíblico detallado de los
relatos del cuarto Evangelio con referencia a las
mujeres portador as de las revelaciones mas
importantes de la persona de Jesús. El cual nos
permitirá recuperar la verdadera identidad de la
Mujer Samaritana y el verdadero sentido de la
conversación entre Jesús y ella. Este taller nos
ayudará también a encontrar un mensaje inspirador
para todos los cristianos hombres y mujeres sin
obscurecer la reputación femenina de esta Mujer que
nombra a Jesús de Señor a Mesías. Convirtiéndose en
un ejemplo de discipulado para todos al llamar a todo
su pueblo y decirles “Vengan y Vean”. Podremos ver
que ese mismo mensaje sigue siendo nuestro llamado
a invitar a otros a venir y ver quien es Jesús que nos ha
transformado.

Obispo O’Connell nos enseñará un proceso de
reflexión sobre los Evangelios. El Obispo ha
encontrado esta forma de oración muy beneficial como
parte de una práctica pastoral centrado en el Evangelio
en la familia y en la vida parroquial.
Originalmente de County Cork, Irlanda, Obispo David
O'Connell estudio en el Colegio All Hallows en Dublin y fue
ordenado al sacerdocio en 1979 para la Arquidiocesis de Los
Angeles. Ha servido en varias parroquias entre Los Angeles, la
mayoría en Sur Centro de LA, y era recientemente Pastor de San
Frances X. Cabrini en Los Angeles. En Agosto de 2015, Obispo
O’Connell era elegido por el Papa Frances a servir como un
Obispo Auxiliar para el Arquidiocesis de Los Angeles y fue
nombrado por el Arzobispo Jose Gomez para ser Vicario
Episcopal para la Region Pastoral de San Gabriel.

Parroquia y la Liturgia, los nombres que ha recibido y
su teología, cómo llegó a ser "día de descanso" y

El ser humano es un ser social, no puede vivir aislado,
porque dentro de sus
necesidades está la de
relacionarse con todos los demás, para propiciar una
buena convivencia debemos hacer un esfuerzo por
lograr una atmosfera de comprensión y sincero interés
común, ayudar para incrementar el respeto, y así,
disminuir conflictos y vivir en armonía. Respeto,
comprensión, cooperación, comunicación, empatía,
cortesía, lealtad, sentido del humor, tiempo, todo
depende de nuestra actitud
frente a las cosas,
personas y situaciones que nos rodean. Para lograr
esto nos ayuda tener un espíritu positivo, elevar
nuestra autoestima, la oración, los sacramentos y
practicar las virtudes, todo esto para formar nosotros a
nuestros alumnos y con quienes convivimos.

LA FAMILIA EN LA IGLESIA Y EN

En este taller conoceremos mas sobre el próximo
sínodo que se llevara acabo del 4 al 25 de Octubre del

2015. El matrimonio y en consecuencia la familia
atraviesan una grave crisis. Daremos sugerencias de
como poder contribuir como catequistas y laicos a este
gran tema.

MOVIÉNDOSE EN LOS
CATEQUISTAS
La base de este tema está en los # 162 al 164 de la
carta: La alegria del evangelio del Evangelio Papa
Francisco. (El Kerigma es Trinitario ). Jn 5,19,36; Sal
104,29. Buscamos fomentar y brindar herramientas
en nosotros(a) adultos (as) esa atención y docilidad al
Espirítu Santo, asi como en los niños (as), adolescentes
a quienes catequizamos para que sean los
tranformadores (as) de esta sociedad, creadores(as) de
un mundo nuevo. "Es el fuego del Espirítu que se dona
y nos hace creer en Jesucristo..."
Sr. Luz Dari Villera es Religiosa de la Comunidad Hermanitas de
la Anunciación. Trabaja en la Parroquia St. Michael de Los Angeles
como Directora de Educacion Religiosa. Coordina el programa de
Confirmación. También ayuda a otros ministerios dentro de E.U.A.,
y fuera del País, con retiros y platicas. En su País hizo sus estudios
de Misionología y Antropología con Énfasis en Sociales, en la
Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. Fue Maestra de Escuelas
Secundarias. Ha participado en los Congresos De Educación
Religiosa, en Mexico, en otros congresos intensivos de formación,
cursos de pastoral, colabora en el equipo de Especialización para la
Confirmación en la Arquidiócesis de los Angeles, y en el Básico.

Latristeza es síntoma de ausencia de Dios. En este taller
meditaremos sobre algunas afirmaciones del Papa
francisco en su exhortación apostólica " la alegría del
evangelio" que nos ayudaran a iluminar nuestro
caminar cristiano.

Arquidiócesis de LA; fue subcoordinadora del Instituto de Pastoral
y Evangelización en la región de Nuestra Sra. de LA; catequista del
RICA en la Igl. St. Francis C.; Coordinó la Catequesis para toda la
Comunidad y Asambleas de Fe y Vida en la Igl. de St. Antonio de
Padua. Actualmente funge como Maestra de Ceremonias y maestra
en el Instituto de Pastoral y Evangelización (básico) de la
Arquidiócesis de LA; da clases Prebautismales y Reflexiones
bíblicas en St. Antonio de Padua.

3-20 MÉTODOS PARA ORAR POR LA
SOLIDARIDAD GLOBAL CON
NIÑOS Y ADOLESCENTES
Los niños poseen una sensibilidad profunda para el
encuentro con Dios en su oración. A nosotros como
padres de familia y catequistas nos toca alentar a los
niños hacia la oración, crear el ambiente propicio para
la oración y embarcar en el desarrollo de la oración
como una disciplina espiritual sana en sus vidas. En
este taller, específicamente exploraremos métodos
para orar por la solidaridad global con nuestros niños
y adolescentes.
María G. Arroyo actualmente trabaja con Servicios Católicos de
Ayuda Humanitaria (Catholic Relief Services) educando y
entrenando sobre Solidaridad Global. También es una instructora
en el Instituto del Ministerio Pastoral de la Diócesis de Orange y es
una directora espiritual que acompaña a los laicos en su camino
espiritual y facilita Retiros de Silencio. María tiene su Maestría en
Estudios Teológicos de la Universidad Loyola Marymount y un
Maestría en Consejería Pastoral de la Universidad de San Diego.
Ella ha servido en las comunidades de India, África, Latino América
y el Sudeste Asiático. Recientemente, María vivió en el sur de
México acompañando a las comunidades indígenas de los Altos de
Chiapas.

IGUALES: LA IGLESIA Y LAS
DISCAPACIDADES
"Somos un rebaño único bajo el cuidado de un único
pastor. No puede ver una Iglesia separada para las
personas con Discapacidades" (Directorio Nacional
para la Catequesis, 647) En este taller repasaremos lo
que la Iglesia nos dice sobre las personas con
Discapacidades y como ésto nos conecta con la Justicia
Social.

3-22 ENTENDIENDO LA SIMBOLOGÍA
EN LA LITURGIA
Los signos manifiestan y alimentan nuestra fe, pero
los símbolos nos hacen vivenciar, experimentar la
presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas, y esto nos ayuda a
sentirlo más cerca, a reverenciarlo y amarlo. También
veremos que significa el sentarse, estar de pie, el canto,
silencio, vestidura litúrgicas…
Para enseñar a los niños y niñas en mi clase, primero
tengo que tener un encuentro personal con Jesús vivo
y real en mi vida. Saber quién es Jesús para mí y para
mis catequizandos. Tomar a Jesús en la Eucarístia
tiene que ser mi prioridad en mi vida como catequista.
Claudia Cortez es maestra de Catequistas y trabajo como
Directora de Educación Religiosa en la Iglesia de la Inmaculada
Concepción, en Monrovia. Es Maestra de Catequistas y le he servido
al Señor en diferentes ministerios, en el coro, como lectora, Ministro
de la Eucaristía, Liturgia para Niños, y es Directora del RICA.
3-24 ATAQUES Y DUDAS DE FE
Nunca descuidemos la oración, ya que la fe es un don
de Dios. Además, es bueno confiar nuestras dudas a un
buen director espiritual o a un buen sacerdote en el
confesionario. Deja que el Espíritu Santo guíe tu fe en
todo momento y la haga crecer.

3-25 VEN Y SÍGUEME
La catequista, son eslabones de una larga historia. En
este taller exploraremos sobre la importancia de la
formación en la fe de las, los catequistas y sus varias
dimensiones. Sobre todo la dimensión humana y
cristiana. Esta formación es la que en efecto les ha de
ayudar a madurar, ante todo, como persona, como
creyente y como apóstol. Así podremos descubrir el
porqué de nuestra larga historia de mujeres y varones
llamadas para anunciar y testimoniar al Dios que nos
revela la Biblia.
Lourdes González-Rubio es la Coordinadora de Ministerios
Catequísticos Básicos y Avanzados en Español para la Oficina de
Educación Religiosa de nuestra Arquidiócesis desde 1991. Colaboró
con la Oficina para el Culto Divino, también de nuestra,
Arquidiócesis, dando entrenamiento a los ministros litúrgicos desde
1986, tiene treinta años de experiencia en la pastoral hispana. Ha
sido invitada a dar conferencias en las Diócesis de San Diego,
Fresno, Sacramento, San Bernardino y Oakland. Es autora de dos
libros de poesía y uno de reflexiones para la compañía Ligori,
titulado “Entre Diosito y yo”.
3-26 COMO PREPARAR UNA LECCIÓN
UTILIZANDO LAS 8 FORMAS DE
APRENDIZAJE
Usando las 8 formas, veremos como podemos
implementarlo en nuestras lecciones. Se llevaran
copias y ideas para compartir con sus estudiantes.
Sr. Marjone Guingona es Directora de Formación Religiosa en la
iglesia San Felipe el Apóstol en Pasadena, California. Ha estado en
el ministerio catequético más de 25 años, es una Maestra Catequista
y Facilitadora de Virtus. También es una Maestra de Maestros en
Educación y Alfabetización Mediáticas para El Centro Paulino en
Estudios de Comunicación.

3-27 LA CATEQUESIS DE LA MUJER EN
LA BIBLIA
Enfocaremos nuestra catequesis en la lucha que hemos
tenido las mujeres contra una serie de
condicionamientos heredados de una cultura patriarcal.
Haremos una síntesis de la catequesis de las mujeres
desde Myriam (Ex.15-20), Debora (Jueces 4-4), Hulda
(2 Rey 22-14) hasta las mujeres que hoy hacemos
historia dejándonos conducir por el Espíritu, atentas a
los signos de los tiempos, sin forzar las situaciones.
Maria Rivera nació en Nicaragua y emigró a Estados Unidos en el
año 1989. Tiene una licenciatura en Administración de Empresas de
la Universidad Centroamericana. Estudió dos años de
Administración Parroquial y Recursos Humanos en la Universidad
de Loyola Marymount. Trabajó por 13 años como directora de
Educación Religiosa, ha enseñado a niños de primaria, a
Catequistas y a Directores de Educación Religiosa. Actualmente
coordina el Instituto Bíblico en Español de la Arquidiócesis de Los
Angeles.
3-28 NUESTRA JUVENTUD/EL TESORO
ESTA A RIESGO
Este tema tomara en en cuenta a importancia de
educar a nuestra comunidad, especialmente a nuestros
Lideres que a pesar que la infección de HVI/SIDA ya
no se considera como un reto, los mitos de la infección
siguen y los jóvenes son los que ahora tienen el gran
porcentaje de infección en Los Angeles; Veremos
métodos como podemos incorporan esta información
en nuestros programas.
Luis Manuel Torres es originario de Zacatecas, Mex; criado en
Tijuana, Baja California, Norte; 1972 emigro a los Estados Unidos,
estudiando el las escuelas publicas, ingreso a la Universidad
Xaveriana de Ohio; inicio los estudios para la preparación de
sacerdocio con los Misioneros Combonianos del Corazon de Jesus;
regrasando a Los Angeles desde 1986 trabajando en la Oficina de
Educacion Religiosa en el Ministerio de Jovenes Adultos; miembro
activo de la Mesa Consultiva de Arquidiocesis de Los Angeles
Ministerios de VIH/Sida; Pastoral Juvenil; desde 2003 siendo
Administrator/Capellan con Interlink Home Health and Hospice;
since 2008-Saint Camilus Pastoral Center for Spiritual Care
providing Chaplain Services to patients at LAC+USC Medical
Center in the Trauma Center.
3-29 BULLYING EN LAS ESCUELAS
CATÓLICAS Y MINISTERIOS¿ESTAMOS ATENDIENDO A LAS
NECESIDADES DE LOS
ESTUDIANTES LGBT?
En las escuelas seculares/públicas, las campañas antibullying son comunes, y muchas escuelas han formado
clubs de Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) que concientizan
sobre el problema de bullying hacia los estudiantes
LGBT. La pregunta es: ¿Qué se está haciendo en las
escuelas/ámbitos parroquiales para atender a estas
necesidades? En esta clase dialogaremos sobre cuales
son las mejores prácticas. La sesión también proveerá
entrenamiento para reconocer las señales para la
intervención/prevención del suicidio.
Yunuen Trujillo ha trabajado por 10 años con grupos de jóvenes
adultos en la Región de San Gabriel. Como parte de el Equipo
Arquidiocesano de Pastoral Juvenil, ha fomentado la formación
religiosa de los líderes de grupos juveniles, motivándolos a
participar en cursos arquidiocesanos de formación integral. Su
especialidad en el ministerio son los temas de Justicia Social y
Doctrina Social de la Iglesia. También es parte de un Comité
Organizador Local en la Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, organizando

a la comunidad en temas como inmigración, justicia económica,
entre otros. Actualmente forma parte del grupo "Siempre Serán
Nuestros Hijos", un grupo de apoyo para Padres y Familiares de
Católicos LGBT y es temista con el Ministerio Católico con Personas
Gay y Lesbianas (CMLGP), ministerio Arquidiocesano.

(RICA)
Aunque varias parroquias están utilizando el proceso
de RICA, todavía quedan preguntas o seguimos con
nuestras inquietudes sobre el proceso de RICA. Este
taller dará un repaso a todas las etapas del proceso, los
ritos principales, y los indicadores que los
participantes deberían seguir en escucha el llamado
del Señor en sus vidas.

Alegría del evangelio. Lc 5, 31; Mt 12,6 - 7. Es bueno
que toda catequesis preste una especial atención " Al
Camino de la Belleza" Que significa anunciar ,Creer ,en
el y Seguirlo. En esta reflexión pretendemos mirar
contigo Desde de Dios; ESA NECESIDAD QUE
TODOS (a)tenemos de recuperar nuestra historia
personal y sanar las heridas. Todo esto repercute en la
manera como nos relacionamos con los demás y en la
acción Evangelizadora.

todo esto?
