Prayer For/Oremos Por
To assist St. Augustine’s during the transition in administering to
the sick we are asking your cooperation when submitting names
for the Prayers of the Faithful and names to be added to the bulletin
listing of the sick. The office staff will be requesting some details such
as contact name, phone number, address, etc. This will help determine
the need for a clerical visit or assistance through a Eucharistic Minister
for the homebound. The bulletin listing of the sick will be grouped biweekly so that we all can be aware of those newly added to the listing.
The bulletin will maintain the listings for three months unless otherwise
specified to be listed indefinitely. After three months names can be
added once again if not otherwise listed as indefinite. We will begin
with the names presently included within the Prayers of the Faithful.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.

ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church –
Marriage & Family
REFLECTION
3rd Sunday of Lent
"But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they
did!" Who wants to repent? Who wants to change habits, make
sacrifices, or chart a more challenging course? Repentance isn't
the easy road. Few of us are naturally drawn towards it. Perhaps
that's why Jesus had to speak with such boldness in today's Gospel. Repent, or perish. Change, or suffer and die. Not what we
like to hear. Not what we like to do. But we would be foolish not
to listen.
The entire Gospel message is certainly one of mercy and
compassion. Jesus was the first to show forgiveness to sinners,
and he always called others to do the same. He suffered and died
so that WE wouldn't have to suffer eternal death. But the fact
remains that we can still CHOOSE to "perish." We can choose to
stay rooted in our favorite sins and to cling tightly to the comfortable vices that stifle a virtuous life. When we won't let go of
them, then we don't truly repent. But Jesus urges us to change so
that we can enjoy the eternal benefits of his mercy. He doesn't
want us to perish! As we hear in today's psalm, "He redeems
your life from destruction, crowns you with kindness and compassion." Repenting--turning back to God--puts us in the right
position for this spiritual coronation.
Lent is a time especially built for repentance. It is a season
that calls us not only to recognize where we need to change, but
to actually set those changes into motion. Lent isn't just a pious
liturgical ritual. These forty days are a response to Christ's stern
warning that we need to repent in order to save our souls. Let's
not pretend to be exempt from the message. Lent is meant for
ALL of us.

Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al)
Unlike the Jewish writings, women have an important place in Luke's
gospel. Luke writes about the women who accompanied Jesus, such as
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and Martha and Mary and "many
other women who used their own resources to help Jesus and his disciples" (8:1). Luke also writes about the birth of Christ from Mary's point
of view and she is especially important in Luke's gospel. It is only in the
gospel of Luke, that the story of Mary's Annunciation, her visit to Elizabeth, the Magnificat, the Presentation and Jesus' remaining in Jerusalem
are told. In Luke's gospel, we learn the words spoken by the angel to
Mary at the Annunciation, "Hail Mary, full of grace" and Elizabeth's
words to Mary, "Blessed are you and blessed is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus." The gospel of Luke focuses on the poor and oppressed, encouraging tenderness and compassion for the less fortunate. The story of
Lazarus and the Rich Man who ignored him is told in Luke's gospel, as
is the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Gospel of Luke stresses the
importance of evangelizing to the Gentiles. In the Gospel of Luke we
hear Jesus praising the faith of Gentiles such as the widow of Zarephath
and Naamanthe Syrian, and we hear the story of the one grateful leper
who is a Samaritan. It is only in the gospel of Luke that the beatitude is
used "blessed of the poor" instead of "Blessed are the poor in spirit"
CHRISTIAN FORMATION
Adult After L.I.F.E.
On Valentine's Day, between our morning Masses, adults in the parish
were given the opportunity to spend time with Monsignor Francis
Muench as he led us in a discussion on the teachings pertaining to the
Sacrament of Marriage. The morning was filled with information but also
with thoughtful conversation and both witty and profound insights. We
look forward to welcoming him back to our March 13 Adult L.I.F.E. session, which will center on the teachings surrounding Annulments
(Declarations of Nullity). He has promised much information to bring
clarity to often "less-than-perfectly-understood" Church law and theology. We have reminded him (and all of of us!) that the Spring time change
will occur that day! Do come!
If you are not currently attending L.I.F.E. but would like to come, remember that we have an offering: "A Slice of Life"...come, enjoy light refreshments and good conversation, contribute a love offering of $5, and, then,
if you desire, have that applied to the small annual cost of $25 should you
decide to join these adult discussions on a regular monthly basis .

ext. 1120 for more information and to help.
EDGE/LIFETEEN
This week at Edge/LIFETEEN, we began our semester on Spiritual Warfare, “The Battle.” Over the next five sessions, we will learn about the
spiritual battle that rages on around us, but also will understand that
Christ has already won the victory in this battle. When we give our lives
to Him and strive to live as disciples, we share in Christ’s victory. This
week, our session celebrated this victory. The teenagers learned that
through Jesus’ Death and Resurrection, sin and death have been defeated,
and heaven is open for us. They spent time processing this “good news,”
and then closed the evening in prayer and thanksgiving for God’s gift of
life. Our next EDGE/LIFETEEN session will be held on Monday,
March 14th. Topic: The Fallen Ones: Satan and Demons.
INSTAN-TEEN-IOUS MESSENGING: We are launching a new approach that lets us inform you instantaneously of program updates, reminders or changes via text messaging. Here’s how it works: Text the
message: @edgelt to 804-793-9971. This will register you for text alerts.

ADORATION FOR THE LORD
Sign-ups for “Adoration for the Lord” on March 3rd are in the vestibule.
It will start after the 12:15 pm Daily Mass and end at 10:00 pm. Please
sign-up TODAY. If we don’t get enough people it will be cancelled.
We need two people per hour. If someone has already sign-up for a time
you are interested in, please place a tally mark next to the time so we
know more people will be here during those hours. Reconciliation will
also be offered at different times during the Adoration. If you can’t find
1 hour to spend with the Lord during Lent, when will you find time?
There is so much to pray for in our world— our families, our children,
our church, our church of St. Augustine, our government, the election
coming up, the wars going on all over our world, our priest, deacons,
Bishops, Pope Francis, our police, our first responders, those sick in our
parish and families, etc… Please make time and bring your children
and/or grandchildren with you. Show them how being in the “Presence
of the Lord” can make a difference.
RCIA
On Saturday, February 20th, our 13 RCIA Catechumens, along with
their godparents and other members of the RCIA, attended the Rite of
Election at the Cathedral. At that service, our Catechumens were presented to Bishop DiLorenzo who called them, in the name of the whole
Church, to the Easter Sacraments of Initiation. From this time on and
continuing until the Easter vigil, Our Catechumens are know as “The
Elect”, a term which will identify them as “Chosen in Christ” to receive
the Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Please
continue to keep them in your prayers throughout this season of Lent
and join us in welcoming them at the Great Easter Vigil, March 26.

Si no obtenemos gente suficiente, será cancelado.
nuestras parroquias y familias, etc…

(Lc 13, 8-9).
