We at Neighbors Link Stamford are very proud of all that we accomplished in 2014, as
highlighted in this annual report. A tremendous increase in the number of clients we served
reflects some new programs as well as the success of our efforts to reach out to the immigrant
communities in the greater Stamford area. Thirty-seven percent of Stamford’s population is
foreign-born – about the same percentage as in New York City. These people, our clients,
have genuine contributions to make, and our role is to connect them to the larger, already
established communities around us so that they are able to make those contributions.
Beyond their skills and abilities, our clients at Neighbors Link Stamford are eager to offer
themselves, with their unique histories and perspectives, to enrich the world for all of us. If
you have ever traveled to another country, you know firsthand how different sights, sounds
and experiences can expand your worldview. At Neighbors Link Stamford, we create that
experience right here, Sharing Cultures and Strengthening our Communities.
The client-centered program at Neighbors Link Stamford is focused on our “three E’s” – Educate,
Empower and Employ. This is the foundation for the first of our strategic initiatives – to
accelerate immigrant integration. Because much of our work is done with and through other
organizations, our second initiative is to expand and strengthen our program partnerships.
We continue to be grateful for the efforts of our many community partners. As our third
initiative for the coming year, we will continue to be a key resource on immigrant integration
issues. Working with leaders from our local community, as well as state and Congressional
representatives, we stand ready to offer expert and personal testimonies. In addition, we focus
on educating the public about our diverse population of immigrants. Our fourth initiative is to
manage our resources effectively. As we saw this year, there is a clear and growing need for all
kinds of services for our immigrant population, and we want to be ready to meet those needs.
Of course, the work of Neighbors Link Stamford is possible only through the generous gifts
of time from our volunteers and resources from our community partners and donors. Our
strength as an organization reflects the involvement of our communities in helping us, and our
clients, to thrive. We are sincerely grateful to all of you who help to support our clients and our
programs, joining us to further our work of Sharing Cultures and Strengthening Communities.
