Welcome! If you are a visitor to the Cathedral, we want you to know how welcome you are whether you have come from another part of the country, from across the world, or from another parish here in the Archdiocese. Thanks, in part, to the generosity of visitors like you, we are able to celebrate the liturgy in a fitting and beautiful way, and also we are able to give spiritual
and emotional support through a variety of services to the community. Your gift is greatly appreciated; our parish family is small

FORTNIGHT TO FREEDOM
The fourteen days from June 21—the vigil of the Feasts
of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More—to July 4,
Independence Day, are dedicated to this “fortnight for
freedom”—a great hymn of prayer for our country.
Our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great
martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution
by political power—St. John Fisher and St. Thomas
More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the
First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. Culminating on
Independence Day, this special period of prayer, study,
catechesis, and public action will emphasize both our
Christian and American heritage of liberty. Dioceses and
parishes around the country have scheduled special
events that support a great national campaign of
teaching and witness for religious liberty. Please see this
weekend’s bulletin insert for more information.

Ministerial Changes at the Cathedral
As has been announced, Father Francisco Gamez will be
leaving us after four years and going on to Our Lady of
Loretto parish in Novato on July 1st. So too, Father Toan
Nguyen, who has been in residence here for six months at
the conclusion of his sabbatical year, will be moving on to
Holy Name of Jesus Parish here in San Francisco at the
same time. Thanks to all the parishioners who have taken
the time to let both Fathers know how much their
ministry here has meant to you.
On July 1st, Fr. Marvin Felipe will be arriving to begin his
ministry as Parochial Vicar. Father has been serving at
St. Anne’s of the Sunset parish here in San Francisco in
recent years.
Also arriving on July 1st, for two months of summer
vacation will be Fr. Enric Segui, S.J., who will be familiar
to some of our long time parishioners. Father Segui is a
Jesuit priest from Barcelona, Spain who comes to the
Archdiocese each summer for a few months visit.
Also, coming to the Cathedral to assist with Spanish
ministries, will be Jose Peñate, who is to be ordained
Deacon here at St. Mary’s Cathedral this weekend,
Sunday June 24th at 3:30 p.m. It would be wonderful if
even with such notice, some parishioners can come
participate in that ordination Mass to pray with and for
Jose and a fruitful ministry as deacon at St, Mary’s Cathedral.
Segunda Colecta Especial
Próximo Domingo 1 de Julio
La próxima semana, nuestra
diócesis llevará a cabo la
Colecta Peter’s Pence, la cual
le proporciona al Santo Padre
los fondos que necesita para
realizar sus más importantes
labores caritativas.
Lo recaudado en la Colecta beneficia a los más necesitados: a las víctimas de guerra, de opresión y de desastres
naturales. Por medio de su generosidad, estaremos
esparciendo la paz de Cristo por el mundo.
Special Second Collection
Next Sunday, July 1st
Next week we will take up
the Peter’s Pence Collection,
which provides the Holy
Father with the assistance he
needs to carry out his most
important charitable works.
The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of
war, oppression, and disasters. Through your generosity, with Pope Benedict we can cast the love of
Christ upon the world.
