Our Music Program has had a lot
going on this year. Our students
have participated in activities recently for peace week. Our peace week
celebration kicked off our schoolwide "Be Kind" program. Each grade
worked on a special activity for the
week that centered on kindness,
team work and understanding.
Our music clubs have been doing
very well thanks to your continued
support. Our choir, recorder and Orff
Ensembles have all added new
members since our Winter Program.
We were so happy with our turn out
that we want to make our Spring
Program even more exciting! The
date is soon to come. Thank you so
much for the wonderful welcome at
Tartan.

“I got caught
being kind!”
Our students at Tartan Elementary School are kind people! We
promote kind behavior by recognizing students who demonstrate kind behavior towards each other, staff members, and our
school. When a student is caught “being kind”, he/she receives
a blue card from the staff member. That card is turned into Mrs.
Morgan, our counselor, for a very special “Be Kind” bracelet. At
the end of the month, all of the students that got caught being
kind take a group picture that is displayed in the multipurpose
room. Come check out our “Building Kindness” bulletin board.
Kind acts can include simple things like holding a door open for
someone, helping another person with a task, being a good
friend, giving a compliment, or cheering up a friend who is sad.
Kindness matters!

What’s Happening in Third Grade?
The Third grade team is dedicated
to building a community of learners. Students will work collaboratively within their own classrooms
and across the grade level. As
Third graders, students perform
investigations in science using Foss
kits, we are currently working with
rocks and minerals, and learning
how to differentiate a rock from a
mineral. In math our students are
currently using standard algorithms to solve word problems
while inserting parenthesis to be
able to determine which part of the
algorithm should be completed
first in order to arrive to the correct answer. We are also learning
the distributive property and how
to properly insert numbers into a
place value chart for regrouping
purposes. In health we have
learned about the six nutrients
which include carbs, fiber, fats,
proteins, water and vitamins/
minerals. The kids have learned
how to make a health plate and
have also learned how to lead a
healthier life. In reading we are
developing our skill level to be-
come avid readers by making inferences using background
knowledge. In writing we are learning how to respond to given
prompts and formulate our own
opinions from information received in a text.
Fifth grade update
Happy March!! Fifth graders are working hard to prepare for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
(SBAC). The SBAC replaced the Criterion Reference Tests (CRTs). We will send a testing schedule as soon as
it becomes available.
Fifth graders are also preparing for middle school. Students zoned for Findlay met with representatives for an
orientation on Feb. 23. On Mar. 17, students zoned for Johnston will go visit the campus for orientation and a
tour. Please contact the CCSD Zoning Department if you are not sure which school your child is zoned for.
Our students have been engaged in Common Core standards all year. Currently, they are learning the following
skills in math, reading, and writing:
Math - Students relate fractions as division to a fraction of a set, multiply whole numbers by a fraction, and relate
a fraction of a set to the repeated addition interpretation of fraction multiplication. Students also find a fraction of
measurement, and solve word problems.
Reading - Students think, talk, and write about characters, settings, and events and how those story elements
compare and contrast within the same text and across texts. Students also quote accurately from a text to draw
on specific details to support their thinking.
Writing – Students have been working on opinion writing. Students are learning to state an opinion and support
their point of view with reasons and information. In addition to supporting their ideas with their own experiences,
they are also actively researching their topics to gather relevant information from digital sources.

¿Qué está sucediendo en la música?
Nuestro programa de música ha tenido mucho en este año. Nuestros estudiantes han participado en las
actividades recientemente para la semana de la paz. Nuestra celebración de la semana de la paz dio inicio a
nuestro programa de "Ser bueno" en toda la escuela. Cada grado trabajó en una actividad especial para la
semana concentrado en la bondad, el trabajo en equipo y la comprensión. Nuestros clubes de música han
estado haciendo muy bien gracias a su apoyo. Nuestro coro, grabadora y conjuntos Orff han añadido a nuevos
miembros desde nuestro programa de invierno. ! Estábamos tan contentos con la participación que queremos
hacer nuestro programa en la primavera aún más emocionante! La fecha está pronto por venir. Muchas
gracias por la maravillosa recepción en la escuela Tartan.

"!Me encontraron siendo algo bueno!"
¡Nuestros alumnos en la escuela primaria de Tartan son gente amable! Promovemos el comportamiento
bueno reconocimiento los estudiantes que demuestran buena conducta hacia uno a otro, los miembros del
personal y nuestra escuela. Cuando un estudiante es encontrado asiendo amable (Being Kind), recibe una
tarjeta azul de un empleado. Esa tarjeta se le entrega a la Sra. Morgan, nuestro consejero, para una pulsera
muy especial de "Ser bueno" (Be Kind). Al final del mes, todos los estudiantes que son encontrados haciendo
buenas cosas, toman una foto de grupo que se muestra en la cafetería. Venga y vea nuestra pared “Building
Kindness” ". Actos amables pueden incluir cosas simples como mantener una puerta abierta para que
alguien, ayudar a otra persona con una tarea, siendo un buen amigo, dar un cumplido o animar a un amigo
que esta triste. ¡Amabilidad es bueno!
Que está sucediendo en el equipo de tercer grado
El tercer grado se dedica a la construcción de una comunidad de aprendizaje. Los estudiantes trabajarán en
colaboración dentro de sus propias aulas y en el nivel de grado. Como alumnos de terceros grado, los
estudiantes realizan investigaciones en la ciencia usando kits FOSS, actualmente estamos trabajando con rocas
y minerales y aprender a distinguir una piedra de un mineral. En matemáticas los estudiantes actualmente
están utilizando algoritmos estándar para solucionar problemas al insertar paréntesis para poder determinar
que parte del algoritmo debe completarse primero para llegar a la respuesta correcta. También estamos
aprendiendo la propiedad distributiva y cómo insertar correctamente números en una tabla de valor de lugar
para fines de reagrupación. En salud hemos aprendido acerca de los seis nutrientes como carbohidratos, fibra,
grasas, proteínas, agua y vitaminas/minerales. Los niños han aprendido a hacer una placa de salud y también
han aprendido a llevar una vida más saludable. En la lectura estamos desarrollando nuestro nivel de habilidad
para convertirse en lectores ávidos haciendo inferencias usando conocimiento de fondo. En la escritura
estamos aprendiendo cómo responder a dado instrucciones y formular nuestras propias opiniones de
informaciones en un texto.
Quinto grado actualización
¡Feliz Marzo!!!! Alumnos de quinto grado están trabajando duro para prepararse para el consorcio de
evaluación inteligente equilibrada (SBAC). El SBAC sustituye las pruebas de referencia criterio (CRT). Le
enviaremos información de fechas cuando las prueba se tomaran acabo tan pronto como esté disponible.
Alumnos de quinto grado están preparándose para la escuela secundaria. Estudiantes divididos en zonas para
Findlay se reunió con representantes en una orientación el 23 de febrero. El 17 de marzo, los estudiantes
para Johnston Irán a visitar la escuela para la orientación y un tour. Póngase en contacto con el
Departamento de zonificación de CCSD si no estás seguro de cual escuela su hijo está zonificado. Nuestros
estudiantes han participado en normas fundamentales comunes todo el año. En la actualidad, aprenden las
siguientes habilidades en matemáticas, lectura y escritura:
Matemáticas - los estudiantes se relacionan con fracciones como división de una fracción de un conjunto
números enteros se multiplican por una fracción y una fracción de un conjunto se relaciona con la
interpretación de la adición repetida de la multiplicación de fracción. Los estudiantes también encuentran una
fracción de la medida y resuelven problemas verbales.
Lectura - los estudiantes piensan, hablan y escriben acerca de personajes, entornos, y acontecimientos y
cómo ésos elementos historial comparar y contrastan en el mismo texto y a través de textos. Los estudiantes
también citan con precisión un texto para dibujar en detalles específicos para apoyar su pensamiento.
Escritura – los alumnos han estado trabajando en la escritura de opinión. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo
una opinión del estado y apoyar su punto de vista con razones y la información. Además de apoyar sus ideas
con sus propias experiencias, que están investigando activamente sus temas para obtener información
relevante de fuentes digitales.
