We continue to celebrate all during Easter Time with our adult parish candidates their reception into the full communion of the Catholic Church, the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Please keep these candidates in your prayers. Also, we are presently preparing to accept new catechumens and candidates for Easter 2016. If you are someone with a desire to receive the Sacraments—Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion—please contact the Parish Office. Also, if you are interested in serving as a parish sponsor for one of our new candidates, please contact the Parish Office. Easter Time every year continues into the month of May. And May is the time to express special devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary, the heavenly Mother of our Risen Lord. On Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM, the Cathedral Basilica will host an Archdiocesan May Procession. Also, on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at 3:00 PM, the Cathedral Basilica will host a Marian Concert. This Mother’s Day concert will honor our Blessed Mother with the Archdiocesan and Cathedral Choirs singing, readings about the role of Mary in God’s plan and in our lives, and prayers asking her help for us to be faithful to the Risen Lord. Please spread the word about these very special occasions to express our love for Mary. All are welcome! All of our parishioners are invited during May to bring flowers to our Blessed Mother’s altars in the Cathedral Basilica and Chapel. One of our parish observances of our 150th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral is planned for Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the 11:00 AM Solemn Mass. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput will celebrate the Mass and formally acknowledge my role as the Rector and Pastor of the Parish. Also, two of our school age children will receive their First Holy Communion at this Mass. This is a special day of prayer for the Parish to ask God’s continued blessings on all of us. The Ordination of our new priests will take place at the Cathedral Basilica on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM. All of our parishioners are welcome to attend the Priesthood Ordination. The second collection next Sunday will be for the support of the Religious Education Programs of the Cathedral Parish. Thank you for your on-going generosity to the Parish and to the Archdiocesan Catholic Charities Appeal. God bless you and Happy Easter! Peter and Paul are anxious to serve the spiritual needs of their Catholic brothers and sisters who live in Residences such as Atria, Kennedy House, Penn Center House, Riverside Presbyterian, and Watermark. Therefore, if you are aware of anyone who would like a priest to visit and celebrate the Sacrament of Penance, the Sacrament of the Sick, and Holy Communion, please let us know. There is no better way that we can emulate Jesus Christ than by sharing his love with all whom he places in our paths, especially the sick and the aged who long for his healing presence. Please pass the above requested information on to us by calling the Parish Office at 215-561-1313. Be assured of the love, concern, and prayers of your priests at the Cathedral, and in your goodness pray for us that we may always be channels of Christ’s love and peace to others. God bless you always and in all ways. Archdiocesan May Procession Sunday May 3 - 2:00 PM This is a prelude to the World Meeting of Families. The procession begins with the Liturgy of the Word at the Cathedral followed by an outdoor procession, rosary and crowing of Our Blessed Mother. A family will be chosen to crown Mary, rather than a May Queen in light of the upcoming World Meeting of Families. World Meeting of Families How Can I help? So many people have asked "How can I help with the World Meeting of Families - Philadelphia 2015?" We have one way! We expect thousands and thousands of visitors from around the U.S. and the world to join us next September and there is now a host family program to supplement the hotel rooms in the region. We need host families! Homestay, a Dublin company, works every day to match host families with visitors with an online system and they created a special online host family site just for WMOF 2015. Parishioners, school families, and other area residents can easily sign up online to be host families. Hosts list specific accommodations they can offer, household rules, and language preferences on the web site and visitors search for a match. To host a family please visit this website: http://www.worldmeeting2015.org/get-involved/ host-a-family/. If you have any questions about Homestay, please email [email protected]. He Is Real The Church Exists to Evangelize In the Creed, immediately after professing our faith in the Holy Spirit, we say, “I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.” There is a profound connection between these two realities of faith: indeed, it is the Holy Spirit who gives life to the Church, who guides her steps. Without the constant presence and action of the Holy Spirit, the Church could not live and could not carry out the task that the Risen Jesus entrusted to her: to go and make disciples of all nations (cf. Matthew 28:19). Evangelizing is the Church’s mission. It is not the mission of only a few, but it is mine, yours, and our mission. The apostle Paul exclaimed, “Woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1Corinthians 9:16). We must all be evangelizers, especially with our life! Paul VI stressed that “evangelizing is...the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize”. It is clear in today’s Gospel that the risen Jesus is not a ghost or an illusion. Jesus proves this by inviting the disciples to touch his hands and feet and by eating a piece of fish. Then he gives them a task: to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins “to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem” (Acts 24:49). This is not “Give a few hours of your time, and you’re done,” but a life-long task. They were his chosen followers, but they are now apostles, sent out on a mission. Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, we are offered the love of God through word and sacrament. We are reminded of God’s saving deeds and wonderful promises, and we are given food for the journey. Finally, we are urged to go for the to love and serve the Lord. What mission is Christ calling you to fulfill, that only you can do? Living Stewardship Now Pause and review how you are loving and serving the Lord in daily live. What do you need to do differently? Are there things you need to do less, or to do more? Are you being called in a new direction? Tithing Online You can make weekly, monthly or quarterly contributions or other donations on-line, either from your personal checking account or a debit/ credit card.
