Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement
We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love
through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service.
Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit,
embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action.
As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church,
waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.
Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Seeking transformation
Buscando la Transformación
The readings and prayers of the First Sunday in Lent
ask us to open our hearts to transformation. The Collect reminds us to see Lent as a time to grow in
“understanding the riches hidden in Christ.” This is the
goal of our forty day Lenten journey. The Preface tells
us that “by abstaining forty long days from earthly food,
Jesus consecrated through his fast the pattern of our
Lenten observances.” Jesus has given us the examples of meditation, prayer, good works, and self denial
as paths for growing closer to God. After leaving the
desert, Jesus proclaimed, “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel.” Jesus asks for repentance which
requires a change of heart that results in a change of
action. We must examine our hearts honestly, be sorry
for past choices, and make changes that remove us
from circumstances and people who tempt us to be
less than what God desires us to be. These changes
are possible when we embrace the gospel. Jesus’
directive reminds us of the actions in the Old Testament reading. God had sent the flood in response to
man’s evil actions through the years. He promised
Noah a new life, a new beginning. Peter writes in his
letter that Noah and his family were “saved through
water. This prefigured baptism,
which saves [us] now. It is not
a removal of dirt from the body
but an appeal to God for a clear
conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” This is
what we hope for in the next
forty days«to come to a truer
understanding of the Paschal
Mystery and live lives that reflect this glorious mystery.

the abortion industry with U.S. Tax dollars. Come at your
convenience. Stay as long as you can. Pray for all life.
Prayers will be offered everyday during Lent between
7:30 AM and 7:30 PM beginning Ash Wednesday and
ending Easter Sunday, April 5th. The Rosary is recited in
Spanish every Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Planned
Parenthood
Synod of Bishops
SBHS Booster Fundraiser
In preparation for the Synod of Bishops to be held in October 4–25, 2015 on “The Vocation and Mission of the
Family in the Church and Contemporary World,” the Vatican has asked the world’s bishops for a “broad consultation.” In order to facilitate the response from the Archdiocese, an on-line survey has been established that enables Catholics to respond to a set of questions that the
Vatican has proposed for reflection. The survey can be
accessed on the Archdiocesan home page: http://www.laarchdiocese.org/
or
directly
at:
http://survey.laarchdiocese.org/. Responses are to be made by Monday,
March 9 in order to be included in the report that the
Archdiocese will present to the United States Catholic
Conference.
Dine out on Tuesday, Feb 24th all day, 11 am-9pm at
Snapper Jack's! Mention SBHS Boosters Club and they
will donate 20% of purchases to St. Bonaventure Sports Programs. We appreciate
all of the support we get from Snapper
Jack's they are generous to many parish
events.
Thank you for helping our high school
students in athletics!

arrive at approximately 4pm on Friday evening. Dinner is
served from 5-7pm. If you would like to attend, the web
site for packet and info is www.serraretreat.com or
