Pope Francis declared 2016 to be the Year of Mercy so that we would imitate the Divine Mercy which is always ready to “Forgive offenses willingly.” In today’s Gospel, we hear how Jesus was willing to forgive “doubting Thomas” and also instructed him and the other Apostles to “pay it forward” by going out and forgiving others: “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.” Pope Francis has always e m p h a si z e d t h e p ra c t i c e o f mercy. From the time he was elected as Pope, he began to conceive the idea of declaring a Jubilee Year of Mercy. Pope Francis spoke beautifully about mercy in his very first Angelus address. He said: “God always has patience, is always patient with us, understanding us, awaiting us, never tiring of forgiving us if we know how to return to him with a contrite heart. Mercy changes the world. A bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just. God never tires of forgiving us, never! The problem is that we get tired, we get tired of asking for forgiveness. Let us never get tired... He is the loving Father who always forgives, who has that heart of mercy for all of us. And let us also learn to be merciful with everyone. Let us call upon the intercession of the Madonna who has held in her arms the Mercy of God made human. And don't forget this: The Lord never tires of forgiving. We are the ones who tire of asking forgiveness.” Happy Divine Mercy Sunday! Their love is great and the word “selfishness” is not in their vocabulary. It is always so nice to meet these caring people and even more of a pleasure to work with them. Juliana Silvey is one of those kind souls. She has been a parishioner for many years and enjoys attending Mass and learning from our priests. In the past Juliana has actively helped in the parish festival, and has been a part of various ministries throughout the years. Currently, she is a Lay Apostolate Office Volunteer, tackling projects large and small as they come throughout the year. She is an important part of many of the events and projects that we do at St. Joseph’s. She is always willing to help and eager to get things done, and do them right the first time. It is a blessing to see such a caring person with a strong faith do what she can to help keep the ball rolling. I am thankful to work with Juliana and for her words of wisdom and encouragement. It is always nice to hear her stories of when she was younger and of things that she learned along the way. Thank you Juliana, for being a good steward of your gifts. Are you listening to Immaculate Heart Radio? Try it today! .
