“Mercy changes the world…”
Father Mark Wagner
Today is Divine
Mercy Sunday in this
Year of Mercy! Pope
Francis declared 2016
to be the Year of Mercy
so that we would
imitate
the
Divine
Mercy which is always
ready to “Forgive offenses
willingly.” In today’s Gospel, we hear
how Jesus was willing to forgive
“doubting Thomas” and also
instructed him and the other Apostles
to “pay it forward” by going out and
forgiving others: “Whose sins you
forgive are forgiven them.”
Pope Francis has always
e m p h a si z e d t h e p ra c t i c e o f
mercy. From the time he was elected
as Pope, he began to conceive the
idea of declaring a Jubilee Year of
Mercy.
Pope Francis spoke
beautifully about mercy in his very
first Angelus address. He said: “God
always has patience, is always patient
with us, understanding us, awaiting
us, never tiring of forgiving us if we
know how to return to him with a
contrite heart. Mercy changes the
world. A bit of mercy makes the
world less cold and more just. God
never tires of forgiving us, never! The
problem is that we get tired, we get
tired of asking for forgiveness. Let
us never get tired... He is the loving
Father who always forgives, who
has that heart of mercy for all of us.
And let us also learn to be merciful
with everyone. Let us call upon the
intercession of the Madonna who
has held in her arms the Mercy of
God made human. And don't forget
this: The Lord never tires of
forgiving. We are the ones who tire
of asking forgiveness.”
Happy Divine Mercy Sunday!

 Every month during the Year of Mercy we are reflecting on Works of Mercy 
April:
Counsel the Doubtful
Actions for this month:
Pray for people who are sad and full of doubt and indecision
regarding their Catholic faith.
Pray for Catholic college students who are confused and
scandalized by atheistic professors.
Pray for the priests and bishops whose task it is to counsel the
doubtful by means of preaching.
Pray for the catechists and Catholic teachers and professors
whose task it is to counsel the doubtful by means of teaching.
Commit yourself to learning about the Catholic faith so that
you can share your understanding of the faith with others.
Offer words of encouragement to those who are uneducated
about their Catholic religion.
Invite people to take part in educational opportunities for
adults at St. Joseph’s Parish such as Bible Studies and That
Man is You.
Give someone a gift of a good Catholic book or DVD.
Ask people about their hopes and support them in striving to
respond to their vocation in life.
Offer positive words to friends and classmates who are sad
and discouraged.

NEW SUPPORT GROUP: ENCOURAGE
EnCourage is a Roman Catholic apostolate for parents, friends
and family members of loved ones with samesex attractions.
EnCourage is a faithful witness to Catholic teaching on sexual
morality which meets the needs of its members with charity and
compassion. EnCourage does not embrace the necessity of
changing a loved one’s sexual attraction to seek support from our
ministry. EnCourage helps members to focus on their own
spiritual development with the goals of achieving peace and
complete trust in God’s Providence and His love for us and for the
ones we love. EnCourage offers a supportive, confidential
environment to share feelings, experiences, information and
guidance for maintaining healthy relationships with our loved
ones with samesex attractions. EnCourage provides members
with an understanding of the needs of individuals who
experience samesex attractions and assists members to reach out
to their loved ones with true compassion. Be welcomed by a
group of committed Catholics who understand your sufferings
and who will walk and pray with you on this journey. For
meeting information and to inquire confidentially, 209. 425.1679

There are some people in
this world who do things
because they genuinely care for
others. Their love is great and the
word “selfishness” is not in their
vocabulary. It is always so nice to
meet these caring people and
even more of a pleasure to work
with them. Juliana Silvey is one
of those kind souls. She has been
a parishioner for many years
and enjoys attending Mass and
learning from our priests. In the
past Juliana has actively helped
in the parish festival, and has
been a part of various ministries
throughout the years. Currently,
she is a Lay Apostolate Office
Volunteer, tackling projects large
and small as they come
throughout the year. She is an
important part of many of the
events and projects that we do
at St. Joseph’s. She is always
willing to help and eager to get
things done, and do them right
the first time. It is a blessing to
see such a caring person with a
strong faith do what she can to
help keep the ball rolling. I am
thankful to work with Juliana
and for her words of wisdom
and encouragement. It is always
nice to hear her stories of when
she was younger and of things
that she learned along the way.
Thank you Juliana, for
being a good steward
of your gifts.

Queridos feligreses,
¡Hoy es el Domingo de la
Divina Misericordia en el año de la
Misericordia! El Papa declaró el
año 2016 el Año de la
Misericordia para que pudiéramos
imitar la Misericordia Divina, la
cual siempre está lista “Perdonar
las molestias.” En el Evangelio de
hoy, escuchamos cómo Jesús está
dispuesto a perdonar a “Tomás
incrédulo” y les enseñó también a
él y a los demás apóstoles a
“devolver el favor” al salir y
perdonar a los otros: “Los pecados
serán perdonados a los que
ustedes se los perdonen.”
El Papa Francisco siempre ha
enfatizado la práctica de
misericordia. Parece que desde
ser elegido como Papa, empezó a
concebir la idea de declarar un
Año Jubilar de Misericordia. El
Papa Francisco habló
hermosamente sobre la
misericordia en su primer discurso
del ángelus. Dijo: “Dios siempre
tiene paciencia, paciencia con
nosotros, nos comprende, nos
Religión:
espera, no se
cansa de
perdonarnos si sabemos volver a
Él con el corazón contrito… La
misericordia cambia el mundo. Un
poco de misericordia hace al
mundo menos frío y más justo.
Dios nunca se cansa de perdonar.
Nunca! El problema es que
nosotros nos cansamos de pedir
perdón. No nos cansemos
nunca… Él es un Padre amoroso
que siempre perdona, que tiene
ese corazón misericordioso con
todos nosotros. Y aprendamos
también nosotros a ser
misericordiosos con todos.
Invoquemos la intercesión de la
Virgen, que tuvo en sus brazos la
Misericordia de Dios hecha
hombre.

vocabulario. Es siempre buen
conocer a estas personas
compasivo, y aún más placentero
trabajar con ellos. Juliana Silvey
es una de aquellas almas
generosas. Ella ha sido feligresa
por muchos años y goza mucho
de asistir la Misa y de aprender
de nuestros sacerdotes. En el
pasado, Juliana fue muy active
en ayudar el festival parroquial y
ha sido parte de muchos
ministerios a través de los años.
Actualmente es un voluntario
dentro de la Oficina del
Apostolado Laico, terminando
proyectos grandes y pequeños
mientras lleguen a través del
año. Ella juega un papel
importante de muchos de los
eventos y proyectos que hacemos
aquí en St. Joseph’s. Ella
siempre está dispuesta para
ayudar y ansiosa para terminar
todo, y hacerlo bien la primera
vez. Es tanta bendición ver una
persona tan compasiva con una
fe tan fuerte hacer lo que pueda
para ayudar a asegurar la
continuidad. Estoy muy
agradecida por trabajar con
Juliana y por sus palabras
sabias y motivadoras. Es siempre
buen escuchar sus historias de
cuando era joven y de lo que
aprendió con el tiempo. Gracias,
Juliana, por ser una
corresponsal de sus dones.
