SANDAG released the Draft EIR for the South Bay BRT project on January 29, 2013,
beginning a 60-day public review period, during which a public meeting was held in
Chula Vista. The EIR is a direct result of more than seven years of community, private
and public collaboration. The document studied three different alignments for the
service, as well as a “no build” alternative, evaluating the option of not constructing
the project. The EIR identifies the potential environmental impacts of the South Bay
BRT project, including potential visual and noise impacts.

If the Board approves the resolution, it will then select an alignment. Pending
approval, construction on the South Bay BRT is scheduled to begin early next year,
and service is scheduled to begin by mid-2015. Once completed, the South Bay
BRT will serve as a critical element of a broader regional BRT system and provide
frequent, rapid, and reliable service along a 21-mile route from the Otay Mesa Port of
Entry to downtown San Diego via eastern Chula Vista.

SANDAG publicó el Borrador del EIR del proyecto BRT de South Bay el 29 de enero
de 2013, dando inicio a un periodo de evaluación pública de 60 días, durante el cual

Pendiente de aprobación, la construcción de BRT de South Bay está programada
para iniciar a principios del próximo año y debe estar en operación a mediados
del 2015. Al estar terminado, el BRT de South Bay formará parte importante de un
sistema BRT regional más amplio y ofrecerá un servicio frecuente, rápido y confiable
a lo largo de una ruta de 21 millas, desde el Puerto de Entrada de Otay Mesa hasta el
centro de la ciudad de San Diego a través del este de Chula Vista.
