Paseo por las tradiciones: (Centro de Artesanía - Calle El Sol - Viña Zanata - Viñamonte - Viñátigo) Duración: Desnivel: Longitud: Dificultad: 2 horas. 500 - 350 m. 3 Km. Baja. It´s called “Centro Cultural Unión y Fraternidad”, better known as the “Casino de la Guancha” It´s origins go back to 1933 when Mr. Hipólito Sinforiano González Mesa founded it. It has nothing to do with a casino, but a recreational society which has been an entertainment venue, a school and nowadays is used for celebrating different cultural events. Around the parish church, it is worthy to walk around the cobbled streets and see several samples of typical Canarian houses such as “La Casa de los Perez” in Calle El Sol which has two floors and a Canarian interior patio with balconies, present site of the Bodega Viña Zanata (Winery), amoungst other ancestral houses from the XVI and XVII centuries. Also you may visit the Calle Pedro González Yánez and on the right hand side, there is a small alley called Calle Juan Luis Reyes where the old council building was whose wooden door is beautifully carved and tells the legend of La Guancha´s name. 28 Rutas, senderos y paseos Walking routes ROUTE 8. To understand the content of this route, it´s important to previously explain the importance of our pine forest. In ancient times; due to the over population of the islands after the conquest, there was an increase in demand of several raw products such as wood, and our forest became in an important source for an industry which exported “La Brea” a kind of tar to Europe and America. This product was mainly used to waterproof boats, barrels, canals and also as a medicinal remedy. Nowadays, “Los Hornos” (a type of oven) are abandoned, but one of the best preserved is located near “El Lagar” recreational area. From El Lagar keep walking 29 along the track in direction to El Barranco de la Arena. It is important to count the number of curves, because the diversion to “Los Hornos” is on the second curve on the left, taking a narrow path and after walking 20-30 minutes you arrive to a small clearing to find “Los Hornos” (kind of ovens) on the right slope within the forest. (There is a tree trunk across the walkway). Note (The area is in need of restoration & signposting). Rutas, senderos y paseos Walking routes RUTA 8.
