I wish to thank Mr. Robert Windorf for his service to the school for the past three years. I wish him well and every success in the future. We were lucky that there was a good deal of interest in the position. After two rounds of interviews, the Principal Search Committee chose Mrs. Marianne Carberry. IHM SPIRITUALITY CENTER We are the Body of Christ. We are Eucharistic people, all called to spread the Good News, to go forth as we leave this Mass today to love, serve and live as missionary disciples of Jesus Christ! Year of Mercy IHM Spirituality Center Calendar: Mrs. Marianne Carberry is delighted to be appointed the next principal of St. Peter of Alcantara School. A lifelong educator, Mrs. Carberry began her career at Vincent Smith School here in Port Washington, where she taught courses in English and mathematics. After 12 years of service at Vincent Smith, Mrs. Carberry decided to merge her talents as an educator with her faith, moving to St. Agnes Cathedral School in Rockville Centre, where, for 14 years, she taught 5th grade social studies and reading. In 2013, she departed St. Agnes to become the assistant principal at Long Beach Catholic Regional School as part of the new administrative team leading the school. Mrs. Carberry graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication arts, and holds both a Master of Science in education from Molloy College and a Master of Science in educational administration and supervision from Fordham University. Additionally, she holds NYS certification as both a teacher and School Building Leader. Mrs. Carberry is a native of the Bronx, but is no stranger to the North Shore of Long Island, having lived in Huntington for 13 years. She currently resides in Merrick with her son Sean. An avid lover of the beach, she can be found spending her free time soaking in the sun at her childhood beach house in Lavallette, New Jersey. Welcome to St. Peter’s! (BLUE DOOR) Rosary: Wednesday June 1st, 7 to 7 30 pm. Come recite the rosary in the chapel for Mary Johnson and all personal prayers. All invited. Rosaries provided. Enjoy the gift of peace. A light social to follow. Come join families of the parish to take time to pray Women’s Prayer Group: Saturday, June 11th 9:1510:15 am. Mary 516-883-2782, [email protected] -5- St. Peter of Alcantara PARISH SOCIAL MINISTRY MINISTERIO SOCIÁL PARROQUIAL "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” ~ Hebreos 13:2 WE AT PARISH SOCIAL MINISTRY & THE MINISTRY OF NOSOTROS EN EL MINISTERIO SOCIAL PARROQUIAL Y EL CONSOLATION WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY & SAFE MEMORIAL DAY. OUR GRATITUDE TO ALL THE MEN & WOMEN, PAST & PRESENT, WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY & OUR FREEDOM. WE ARE & WILL ALWAYS BE FOREVER GRATEFUL. MINISTERIO DE CONSOLACIÓN NOS GUSTARÍA DESEAR A TODOS UNA FELIZ Y SEGURO DÍA DE LOS CAÍDOS. NUESTRO AGRADECIMIENTO A TODOS LOS HOMBRES Y MUJERES, PASADO Y PRESENTE, QUE HAN PERDIDO SUS VIDAS PARA PROTEGER NUESTRO PAÍS Y NUESTRA LIBERTAD. SOMOS, Y SEREMOS SIEMPRE, AGRADECIDO. We are trying to put together a group of hopefuls from both the Anglo and Latino congregations here at St. Peter's who may be interested in getting involved in some way in an Immigration Task Force, for lack of a better term. There are several things that we would like to do to help undocumented immigrants (and, as you know, they are not all Latinos, there are some Asian, some from the UK, Poland, et al). Some of these task committees would be a sub-committee which would join forces with a team Sr. Kathy is forming at Our Lady of Fatima in Manorhaven. This team would assist the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC to help people affected in the Port Washington area (there are a few options available here, as well). Then there will be other task committees, as well as an advisory board that we will be forming through St. Peter's PSM, with your help, to brainstorm, educate and advocate on behalf of the undocumented here in the Port community. As many of you heard, ICE has made its way to NY and raids have taken on a new momentum here on Long Island. Please advise if you are interested in coming to an informational meeting one evening to hear more to see if you would be interested. If there is anyone in the parish that you think might be interested, please pass on this information and ask them to contact me at 516-883-0365 or at [email protected]. Once we have a significant list of "hopefuls" we will send out an email with available dates and times whereby I will ask that you check all that would work for you; hopefully there will be at least one where all, or most will be available to attend. I will present the different task force commitees and explain about the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC, and you can then pray on it, and decide in what way you would like to help. Thanks in advance, and I hope we can count on your involvement, no matter how much or how little - many hands make light work! Paz, Lourdes -6- St. Peter of Alcantara Religious Formation Program Thank you… for your donation and for helping to make a difference.
