Port Lavaca Makes List of "Best Cities to Live In"
Port Lavaca has made the list of Best Cities to Live In. Of the 1,218 incorporated cities in Texas, we are ranked 228. The survey itself only
looked at cities over 10,000 in population which is 247 but the important thing is not where we are ranked but that we have finally
made the list. Cities were ranked by the real estate web site movoto.com and the rankings are based on factors such as weather, quality
of life, total crime, taxes, and unemployment rate. We were ranked in
the top 25 cities for commute and in the top 28 in tax rate. We need to
keep working to improve our position but each time we add another
amenity to our quality of life, or make another drug bust to eliminate
crime from our city, we improve a little more.

CORPORAL DENSON RECOGNIZED BY CITIZEN
Corporal Y’Kwiam
Denson has worked
for the Port Lavaca
Police Department
for the last four
years. A local resident, William Gayle
posted a video on P/

a disabled man in a wheelchair cross Austin Street.
Cpl. Denson noticed the man trying to cross in heavy
traffic so he stopped his car, turned on his police lights
and helped the gentleman get across the street. Denson
said helping the public is just another day at work.
“We don’t only just arrest people, it’s what the people
don’t see like us stopping to help people, or changing a
flat tire for someone.”
