Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Volunteers are the heart and soul of any parish,
providing 80% of the hands-on work and ministry.
Sometimes we have an exceptional person who has
given to the parish over many years. Such a person is
Marieanne Nohl. Originally in Little Flower Parish
where she was very active with the Ladies Club,
Marieanne and her husband, Tom, moved the family to
Holy Spirit Parish (across Sadlier) in the late 1960s.
Soon she began her work at Holy Spirit as the
Record’s Manager, coming every week to the parish
office to update and maintain the parish files.
During the 1970’s, Marieanne created the parish
block system, a method of organizing all parishioners
into sections that could then be called upon for various needs. Today, our Mercy Meals (meals provided
after funerals) continue to use the block system for
providing food. Marianne has updated this system for
35 years, doing this from her home in recent years.
Recently Marieanne told us that she will be retiring
from parish record keeping responsibility. The parish
staff, in the name of the parish community, would like
to thank Marieanne for her dedicated service to Holy
Spirit. Therefore, Friday, May 17th, will be “Marieanne
Nohl Day” and the evening 5:30 Mass that day will be
celebrated for Marieanne!
Thank you, Marieanne, for your service to our
parish.
God’s Blessings and Love,
See if you can find a picture of Marieanne on the page
of “Remember When”!

HOLY SPIRIT PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS
The Holy Spirit Parish Council is the primary voice between the
lay people of the Parish and the Parish Pastor. The Parish
Council meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month to discuss
various aspects of the parish including community life, the school,
faith formation, finance, youth and spiritual life.
There will soon to be 3 openings on the Parish Council for a
term of 3 years each.
For the next few weekends, election boxes and ballots will be
located in the East & West vestibules. If you want to run for election, put your name and phone number on the ballot and place it
in the box. You will be notified by phone to verify your intent on
running. This eliminates the chance that someone, other that
yourself, has placed your name on the ballot.
Father Paul will pull 2 winning names from a box containing all
verified ballots during 10:30 Mass on June 9. You need not be
present to win.
Please consider giving your time and talents to serve on the Holy
Spirit Parish Council.

CATHOLIC CHARITY NEWS
On Friday, April 26th, 100 Catholic leaders met with all give Indiana Bishops at the University of Notre Dame for the first-ever
Indiana Catholic Poverty Summit. We met to discuss the plight
of the growing number of individuals and families living in poverty. We concluded that although we do many things to serve
the poor, the current state of poverty in Indiana is not acceptable
and that more can be done.
We will be posting information on our website to keep you up to
date on steps that we take and goals that we set www.CatholicCharitiesIndy.org

CONNECTED IN THE SPIRIT
PASTORAL PLANNING PROCESS
At the request of Archbishop Tobin, Holy Spirit Parish is participating in the Connected in the
Spirit Pastoral Planning Process.
The goals of the program include:
1) To enhance the vibrancy of parish life in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
2) To foster an appreciation for and participation in Sunday Eucharist and the sacraments.
3) To promote good stewardship so that parishes are financially viable now and into the
future.
4) To maximize the availability of quality Catholic School education throughout the
Archdiocese.
5) To ensure that all parishioners have opportunities for quality lifelong Christian
Formation, including supporting new initiatives for youth and young adults and
promoting vocations to ordained and lay ministry.
6) To strengthen service to those who are marginalized.
7) To build a greater sense of unity among the many cultures in the Archdiocese.
8) To realign parishes considering the number of priests available to serve, financial
resources and demographics.
9) To increase collaboration among all entities in the local, national and universal Church.
10) To advocate for peace and justice in the Church and in the world.
Father Paul has asked 4 parishioners to represent Holy Spirit in conferences that will take place
over the next 1 to 2 years. They are Alessandra Baez, Kathy Kozenski, Rick Pohlman and Bob
Lane.
The 1st Step is to gather information about Holy Spirit and reporting to the Archdiocese. The
process has already started. And it will continue over the next few weeks.
There will be a Town Hall Meeting in the Parish Center at 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, May 15 to
ask for your feedback about the Parish.
If you can’t make it to the Meeting, visit the web site at HolySpirit-indy.org. The questionnaire
is posted there.
We appreciate your help and continued support.
