Father Tim Nolt, our new Rector,
(effective July 19), writes:
“I arrived in Texas on Jan. 1, 1990, to begin
my studies at UT-Austin in piano performance.
I hold a BM degree from the Juilliard School
and a MM degree from UT-Austin (1992). I
also hold an MTS from Ave Maria University
and an M. Div. from University of St. Thomas/
St. Mary’s Seminary Houston (lots of paper to
hang on the wall.).
I grew up in Lancaster, PA, in a family very
strong in their evangelical faith. As I arrived in Texas, I began seeking the
right fit for church community, and ended up with a house church movement in Austin. I also began free-lancing as a classical pianist/accompanist
and ended up playing for Masses at San Jose parish in South Austin about
once a month. God worked through my experience of Catholic liturgy and
many conversations with well-educated and joyful Catholic friends, to draw
me into the sacramental world of the Catholic Church.
For 10 years before seminary I worked for the City of Georgetown, in their
Information Technology (IT) Department. I was received into the Church in
1999, at St. John Vianney parish in Round Rock and then began a slow
discernment for seminary/Catholic priesthood. Part of my discernment was
my three years as part-time music director/staff member at St. John
Vianney. I entered seminary formation in 2007 at St. Mary’s Seminary in
Houston and was ordained June 8, 2013 for the Diocese of Austin. I served
two years at St. Helen parish in Georgetown, and one year at St. William
parish in Round Rock.

her husband and family in Chicago; and my youngest sister Tricia and her
family live in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
I enjoy spending time at the piano, rehearsing for gigs with my chamber
group Arte Musique (formed in 2000), reading, traveling, being with
friends and I love taking cruises!
Men’s Mass with Bishop Vásquez is July 23:

Stewardship of Treasure
Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s readings speak of Abraham, who
cheerfully did for his guests all that desert
hospitality required, was rewarded with his
heart’s desire—a son. Martha also busied
herself with all the details of hospitality,
but grudgingly and with complaint.
Am I a cheerful or a grudging giver?

Diocesan Guidelines for baptizing a child:

Air Conditioning in the Church: The air
conditioning system is hard at work keeping our church cool so
please dress comfortably for Mass. If you are cold natured, we
suggest bringing a jacket or sweater with you. There is no way to
easily the temperature during Mass or maintain a constant temperature in all areas of the church. The blower is essentially on or
off, and when it is off, the church becomes warm rather quickly,
especially around the altar and in the narthex and
balcony. Thank you for your understanding!

Cathedral Closed weekdays for interior repairs.

During that
time, Daily Mass will be celebrated in Bishops Hall, and Confessions will be heard in the first and second grade classrooms
directly across from the south door of Bishops Hall. Glass doors
to Bishops Hall will be open through the week.




Pilgrims and the Holy Door—

If the PARENTS are not members of the Cathedral, a
letter from the parish in which the parents reside or are
registered must be presented, giving permission for the
child to be baptized at Saint Mary Cathedral. This
must be done prior to registration for Baptism.
Copy of the state birth certificate or hospital birth
certificate for the child being baptized.
Single godparents must be practicing Catholics living
according to the norms of the Church.
Married couples serving as godparents must be
married by the Catholic Church.
Parents and godparents must attend a Baptismal
Preparation class prior to the Baptism. If the class is
taken in another parish, proof of attendance must be
presented.

Initiation: Baptism, First Communion and
Confirmation.

before a Baptism date can be set.

Prayer for Seminarians and Priests: Jesus, I thank you for your gift of
the priesthood to the Church. I pray for all priests and those in formation for
priesthood, especially__________. Form their hearts to be more like your own,
the Heart of the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. Draw them
to your Heart, and bless them with courage and zeal as they serve you and your
people. Give great joy as they proclaim the Good News of your Resurrection,
and wisdom and trust as they discern your will. I ask this with great confidence
in you. Amen. Our Father…, Hail Mary…, Glory be… St. John Vianney,
patron of priests, pray for us. Please pray for the Cathedral Seminarians, Miguel
Flores on the 8th, and Chris Yeager on the 23rd of each month, respectively.
