The project received a Finding of No Significant
Impact (FONSI) from the Federal Transit
Administration (FTA) in October 2015, which
indicates that the three-mile project will
have no significant environmental effect on
the neighboring communities. The FONSI
comes following the project’s Environmental
Assessment (EA), which evaluates the potential
impacts to the neighboring environment,
including noise and vibration, traffic and
parking, and historical and archaeological
resources.

On February 9, 2016, the Tempe Streetcar
project reached a funding milestone with
$75 million included as a recommendation in
President Obama’s budget for Fiscal Year 2017.
Congress must ultimately approve any federal
funding as part of the appropriations process in
the coming months.

NEXT STEPS
Competitive procurements for streetcar vehicles
and design, construction and artist contractors
will begin. Construction will initiate in 2017
with opening scheduled for 2019. Community
outreach will continue throughout the project,
including business outreach and programming.
Streetcar is an important addition to
developing a total transit network in this
region. It supports the existing transit system
and community with its ability to attract new
riders, increase mobility, strengthen existing
neighborhoods and create sustainable
development.
Modern Streetcar vehicles operate on tracks,
typically mixed with automobile traffic. Stops
are also more frequent than light rail.

Se calcula que los costos del proyecto capital del Tranvía
de Tempe ascenderán a $177 millones de dólares, y se
financiará usando fondos regionales de la Proposición

SIGUIENTES PASOS
Comenzarán las adquisiciones competitivas de los
vehículos del tranvía y del diseño, de la construcción y
de los artistas contratistas. La construcción comenzará

En octubre de 2015, el proyecto recibió de la
Administración Federal de Transporte (FTA por sus
siglas en inglés) un Hallazgo de que No Hay Un Impacto
Significativo (FONSI por sus siglas en inglés), lo cual
indica que el proyecto de tres millas no tendrá efecto
medioambiental significativo alguno en las comunidades
circunvecinas. El hallazgo FONSI sigue a la Evaluación
Medioambiental (EA por sus siglas en inglés) del
proyecto, la cual evalúa los impactos potenciales al
entorno circunvecino, incluyendo ruido y vibración, tráfico
y estacionamiento, además de recursos históricos y
arqueológicos.

SOBRE EL TRANVÍA
El tranvía es una importante adición al desarrollo de una
red total de transporte en esta región. Apoya al sistema
existente de transporte y a la comunidad, con su habilidad
de atraer a nuevos viajeros, de aumentar la movilidad,
de fortalecer a los vecindarios existentes y de crear un
desarrollo sostenible.
Los vehículos modernos de tranvía operan sobre vías,
típicamente mezclados con el tráfico de automóviles, y son
propulsados por líneas aéreas de energía. Las paradas
también son más frecuentes que aquellas del tren ligero.
