Family Fun Day May 4 at Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area
Join Kendall County Partnership for Parks (KCPP) for
the first Family Fun Day at
the new Kreutzberg Canyon
Natural Area from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May
4. The whole family can
explore the new county park.
Park entrance is, as always,
free.
“Our Fun Day event is a
great time for folks to see all
Kreutzberg Canyon Natural
Area has to offer,” Kristie
Denbow KCPP President,
said. “KCPP and the Kendall County Parks Department
have worked hard to create a
wonderful natural area filled
with recreational and educational opportunities.”
Activities include helpful
birders at each of the three
bird blinds, a family bird
walk at 10 a.m., plant and
habitat walks and talks, fossil tours, a scavenger hunt,
and a variety of nature crafts
for all ages.

Kiphart will showcase “The
Magic of Monarchs” with
two live butterfly tents and
a monarch butterfly exhibit.
At 1 p.m. Craig Hensley
will lead visitors into the
fascinating world of insects
during the “Bugs-R-Us”
adventure.
“We have put tremendous
thought and effort into creating fun and educational
activities for a variety of
ages,” said Daneshu Clarke,
KCPP board member.
COUNTY
to the kids this year totaled
about $246,000. We think
that’s a pretty successful year
for our kids.” More than 500
youngsters participate in the
county’s 4-H program.
Extension agent Jana
Osbourn called the March
16 Outdoor Family Fair in
Boerne a success. “Over
1,110 came though and participated,” she said.
The fair featured displays
by the Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, 4-H, nursing homes
and many others.
“We tried to target people of
all ages,” she concluded.
Judge Pro Tem Darrell Lux
presented a ten-year service
aware to Michael Barron
in the Road and Bridge
Department.
The commissioners also:
• Kept the burn ban off.
• Proclaimed May 19-25 as
Emergency Medical Services
week.
• Approved a preliminary
plat for Cordillera Ranch
units 301A, 301B, 301C,
301D and 301E, consisting of 111.82 acres with 66
single family lots and seven
roadways.
• Amended the plat of lots
16A, 17, 18 and out lot 49A
into lot 18A in Comfort (Boys
and Girls Club of the Texas
Hill Country).

AgriLife Extension Agent
Stephen Zoeller reported
a successful season for the
Kendall County 4-H stock
show participants.
In addition to the county
junior livestock show, members exhibited at shows in
San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Kerrville and San Angelo,
as well as a judging contest in
Fredericksburg.
In discussing participants’
success at the shows, Zoeller
noted, “Checks coming back

for everyone to do.”
Reidun Hilleman, Texas
Master Naturalist and KCPP
volunteer, has enjoyed monitoring the 18 nest boxes at
the Natural Area.
“In the last two years, we
have fledged five clutches of
Eastern Bluebirds,” she said.
“My family has enjoyed
participating in this project
with me. Once my daughter
watched a female bluebird
dive-bomb me!”
Food concessions will
include KCPP’s now famous
brat-on-a-bun and drinks
available for purchase. Note:
the park has NO potable
water so visitors should
plan to bring their own or
purchase some. And wear
comfortable, sturdy shoes as
terrain is rugged in places.
KCPP, a nonprofit volunteer organization, is seeking
donations of bird seed to
place at the wildlife viewing
blinds and will accept dona-
