As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, our students must have
skills that allow them to work and live
with success in a multicultural and
international community. These skills
include an inquisitive mind orientated
to problem solving, communication
and effective collaboration to achieve
goals, and a global awareness to
understand and face issues of global
impact with a respectful attitude

A long term vision of education
The International Baccalaureate
Organization, based in
Switzerland, is a non-profit
foundation, with a solid
reputation of quality, excellence
and leadership that currently
works in 143 countries offering
opportunities to more than one
million students from three to
nineteen years old.
The Learner Profile was
developed by a group of
educators that constantly studies
the skills and knowledge the
students may need in the future.
It includes ideals that inspire,
motivate and focus the work of
schools, teachers and students,
guiding them toward a common
objective.
The IB trains and evaluates
teachers and conducts ongoing
revisions to ensure that each of
the schools in the program meets
the established high standards.

Program
Core Requirements
Students of the IB Diploma
Program study six courses at
higher or standard level.
They must choose one subject
from each of groups 1 to 5.
This ensures a wide experience
in languages, social studies,
experimental sciences and
mathematics. The sixth subject
may be an arts subject chosen
from Group 6, or the student
may choose another subject from
groups 1 to 5.

Extended Essay
Each student has the opportunity
to study in depth a topic of his/
her interest, related to one of their
chosen subjects of study, giving
them the opportunity to practice
writing skills and college-level
research.

Theory of
Knowlege
Designed to encourage critical
reflection on the knowledge and
experiences acquired inside and
outside the classroom, Theory of
Knowledge challenges students
to question the basis of knowledge, to be aware of ideological
biases and to develop the ability
to analyze evidence.

The Program
includes a

Creativity, Action
and Service
CAS encourages students to share
their energy and special talents with
others. Through specific projects that
provide service to people and communities, they learn that the importance of this collaboration lies not
only in what they can do for others,
but what they learn about themselves.

examiners work
together to ensure
that students have
ample opportunity
to show what they
have learned.

At the end of the program,
students take written tests that
are revised by external IB
examiners. They also perform
tasks that are evaluated by
the teachers and subsequently
reviewed by external moderators, or sent directly to external
examiners.
The diploma is awarded to
students who achieve at least
24 points, provided they have
achieved a certain level of
performance in the whole
program and met various other
requirements related to the core.
The highest total score that can
be awarded to a student is 45.
The responsibility for this evaluation lies with a team of more than
3,000 examiners worldwide, led
by lead examiners with international authority in their subject.

tareas que son evaluadas por
los profesores y posteriormente revisadas por moderadores externos, o enviadas
directamente a examinadores
externos.
El diploma se otorga a aquellos alumnos que consigan
al menos 24 puntos, siempre
y cuando hayan logrado un
cierto nivel de desempeño en
la totalidad del programa y
cumplido con los componentes obligatorios. La puntuación total más alta que puede
otorgarse a un alumno es 45.
La responsabilidad de esta
evaluación descansa en más
de 3,000 examinadores a
nivel global, encabezados
por examinadores líderes
de autoridad internacional
en la materia.
Para participar en el
programa, los alumnos que
cursan los dos últimos años
de preparatoria pueden
elegir inscribirse en las
asignaturas de IB como parte
del Programa del Diploma en
su conjunto o sólo tomar una
o dos clases para obtener
certificados individuales.
