In the evening, we join the Torchlight Marian Procession. Day 3 – LOURDES - This day is spent in devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. We celebrate Mass at the Grotto, with a morning orientation visit to the Shrine and a walking tour of Lourdes, visiting Boly Mill, where St. Bernadette was born, the Cachot, formerly used as a jail, where she lived during the apparitions, and the parish church. This afternoon is free for private devotions, Eucharistic Procession, the Blessing of the Sick or the legendary, healing waters of the miraculous Lourdes spring. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. Day 4 – LOURDES/NICE – Early this morning we depart Lourdes and travel east along southern France passing by Toulouse and making a brief stop in Avignon seeing the Palace of the Popes. We continue to the Nice area for dinner and overnight. Day 5 – NICE/ASSISI – We depart and continue through the famous Cote d'Azur region of France and enter into northern Italy passing by Genoa and continue towards Assisi. We continue through Tuscany into Umbria to the hilltop village of Assisi, the home of Saint Francis. Our first stop is in the lower town for a visit to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, and the Portiuncula, Francis' Church of the Little Portion. Continue to the upper village for dinner and overnight at our hotel. Day 6 – ASSISI/ROME - This morning, we celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Francesco. Later today, we depart Assisi and drive to Rome where we arrive for dinner and overnight at out hotel. Day 7 - ROME - This morning, we go to Vatican City where we celebrate Mass below St. Peters. Afterwards, we see the treasures of the Vatican Museum. We marvel at Michelangelo’s restored frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and the wonders of St. Peter’s. This huge, imposing Basilica, second only to St. Peter’s and one of the largest churches in the Christian world, contains an unusual gallery of papal portraits: 265 tablets portraying the popes of the past. We conclude our day at one of the Catacombs, burial place of early Christians. We view the 2nd and 3rd century fresco paintings. We have the opportunity to explore the culinary delights of Rome tonight, as dinner is on our own. Overnight at the hotel. Day 10 – ROME/USA – Today we make our way home with memories of a lifetime. From the Pastor: For Sunday December 30th. A New Year’s Challenge: As Christians, we start each year off by dedicating it to the Mother of God. For all Catholics January 1st is a Holy Day that we are obligated to celebrate by going to Mass. While many in the world are planning all sorts of other events, faithful Catholics will be in prayer and asking for Mary’s help for the year to come. How blessed we are to have the privilege to start the New Year off right! (Please see Mass Schedule for Mass times.) This New Year gives us a new opportunity to grow in our faith. We continue to celebrate The Year of Faith that Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed. What will you do to grow in your faith this year? This New Year is also a great opportunity to focus on the “New Evangelization.” Of course, every Catholic is called to evangelize, that is, to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. But the Church is calling for a New Evangelization because many Catholics no longer know their faith very well and so are unable to live it or share it with others. What can we do as a parish to be a part of the New Evangelization? Please continue to pray for Religious Freedom for Catholics. As you know, our Archdiocese, as well as many other Catholic Institutions throughout America, is in a legal battle with the current Administration whose Health Care Law is forcing Catholics to compromise their religious belief. One thing we can do for the Year of Faith is exercise our faith in public action against this religious persecution. The Movie “For Greater Glory” will show you what can happen when we allow our religious liberties to be taken from us. Let’s all set a goal to pray more in this New Year for Faith, Freedom, and Peace. - Fr. Timothy Gallagher Holy Day of Obligation schedule Please remember that the 1st Day of the New Year 2013 is dedicated to Mother of God and is a Holy Day of Obligation! Receiving Holy Communion: To receive Holy Communion in the Catholic Church we have to be in full communion with the Catholic Church and be in a state of grace. If you are not Catholic or are in a state that puts you outside full communion with the Church, for example, a couple who is living together without being married in the Church through the Sacrament of Matrimony, or a person who has committed mortal sin without going to the Sacrament of Confession, please refrain from receiving Holy Communion for now. The Priest is here to help prepare you to receive Holy Communion in the future. Please call Father Timothy Gallagher if you would like to go to Confession, get married in the Church, or become a member of the Catholic Church. No dejemos solo a Jesús!
