Dear parents,
Gratitude: I want to take this time during the month of Thanksgiving to personally thank all of you for your hard work
and dedication to your child’s education. I especially want to thank the parents who are volunteering so much of their
time to make Corkery a better school.l. You make a difference with everything you do!
PAC parent workshops:: The PAC sponsored a workshop night for parents this past week. The workshop was for parents
of Kindergarten and first grade parents. Parents learned about book levels, questions to ask children about their books,
and basic Math skills that their children should be practicing. If you took part in these workshops, please work with your
children on the skills presented. Together we will meet the goals. The parent workshops for 2nd-8th grades will be
presented in the coming months.
Space To Grow Grant: Thank you to all the parents who came out for the planning meeting on our playground
transformation. Your ideas have been given to the architects along with the ideas of the students and teachers
teach (and

principal). Our next planning meeting is on November 14 at 8:15 and 5:00pm. Come out and see how your ideas have
been put into the design!
Recess: We hired a part-time
time college student to help with recess on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Her name
nam is
Maria Chavez. Maria lives in Little Village and attends DePaul University. We welcome Maria to our community and
appreciate the support she brings to us.
Medical Compliance: We still have about 60 students who are out of compliance with their medical requirements. We
are planning on having a medical van out to our school several times this year to help you get your child the necessary
immunizations. We will be sending home mor

e information to students whose immunizations or physicals are outdated
or will soon be outdated.
Attendance: Attendance for the month of October was: 96.8%. Attendance Goal= 98%. Grade 8 Room 106 had the
highest attendance at 98% for K-88 classrooms! LET

Calendar: Please read the attached calendar for all important meetings and events coming up in November.
Activities at Corkery: Our parents organized a fabulous Halloween celebration for our students in Kindergarten – 3rd
grade. It’s important to us that we help our youngest students celebrate Halloween in a safe but fun way. The parents
worked for days preparing the gym for their Fall Festival. We’re hoping to have more celebrations for other grade levels
throughout the year. Thanks again to all the parents who worked so hard to make this happen!
After School Academics: Teachers are busy planning for after school academic programs for small groups of children.
The teachers are looking at the data and choosing small gr

oups of children to give targeted instruction. Not every child
will be invited to participate. We know that by working with small groups of students we can make big improvements.
Each teacher is analyzing their data to determine who in their class would be
benefit.

meeting grade level standards, but are still below. Please understand that we cannot accommodate

Fleece Jackets: This month we will begin selling warm fleece jackets in our school colors. Students are not allowed to
wear hoodies, and we are hoping
ng that you will purchase these fleece jackets instead of purchasing hooded jackets. The
fleece sweaters may be worn throughout the day. We will send home flyers to let you know when the fleece jackets
arrive. The prices will be $22 or $21, depending on th
the size.

IMC fundación: IMC sigue siendo

alumnos de 6to grado y los nuevos estudiantes de 7mo y 8vo grado. También han donado dinero para continuar nuestro
fútbol por un programa de éxito, que se encuentra en su ttercera

generosa donación para ayudar con nuestro programa de Álgebra.
Otoño pruebas: Hemos estado muy ocupados probando todos los estudiantes este otoño para darnos una información
clara sobre los niveles de lectura
