Page 2 December 6, 2015 SHINE. OUT OF DARKNESS … Light. Be watchful! Be alert! Advent is the celebration of the three comings of the Lord — the coming in history 2000 years ago; the coming in glory at the end of time when God returns again (parusia), the coming in mystery of the Eucharist that happens in each celebration of the Holy Mass. Advent is a special time of patient waiting. It’s not easy to wait especially in our actual world that demands everything happen right now! We can find any information on our cellular phones, we receive the latest news almost at the moment that the events occur!. We live in an instant age — instant food, instant this, that and the other. We even speed up nature: with artificial light we fool the hens into laying two eggs a day! For St. Agustin patience is the companion of wisdom. The most important things in life cannot be rushed and require patient waiting. Patient waiting is necessary in our lives and when we have hope we know that in God everything has a reason to be. A mother waits for 9 months to bring a child to birth, the teacher requires patience to see results in his students; the peacemakers require it so as not to give up on the peace making process, and everybody requires it to build loving relationships. We wait not mournfully, but in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Today, the Second Sunday of Advent, continues the period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ, our Saviour, at Christmas. All the readings in the Mass advise us most urgently to make ourselves ready, to be on the alert, to turn aside from our sinful ways, and give more time to God in our lives. “Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord”. But we desire to see the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (parusia), it will be the end of our happy waiting. As Christians this event doesn’t scare us, but rather we prepare ourselves and our hearts for this great day in which we will see the glory of God. Happy Advent!!! Fr. Alfonso CATHOLIC SINGLES GROUP: All Catholic men and women age 50 and over, who are single, widowed or divorced, are invited to join us in attending the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, December 19th at Resurrection Church in Lakeland, and a Christmas party afterwards. Altar Server for 31 years! You are so appreciated by our community, THANK YOU! Crossing paths When Francis Xavier began rooming with Ignatius Loyola at the University of Paris in 1530, he couldn’t have known that less than a century later they would be canonized together (along with Teresa of Avila, Philip Neri, and Isidore the Farmer). Francis also couldn’t have known where the love of Christ would take him. From Paris, Rome, and the founding of the Jesuits, to India, Japan, and beyond, Francis Xavier spent his life spreading the Good News he first heard with Ignatius, crossing paths with people from far and wide and witnessing to the love of God that knows no bounds. Confirmation pictures are available upon request. Please call to make an appointment for viewing. Call Jacquie Menard 863-422-1063 or email [email protected]. It is also said everyday before Mass at 8:20. Page 5 The Advent season is fundamentally one of hope. And the hope we are talking about stands only because of faith. When everything around us seems collapsing we keep hoping because we know there is nothing our God cannot do. It is exactly this hope the first reading is trying to root in the people of God. Living in exile, submitted to despise, enslaved to their enemies, their conditions are really miserable. And there is no way they can change it by themselves. The natural issue in this case is discouragement. But the prophet tells them: “Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery, put on the splendor of glory from God forever: Wrapped in the cloak of justice from God bear on your head the mitre that displays the glory of the eternal name.” How can this be possible? Despite the appearances, that will happen: “For God will show all the earth your splendor.” Nothing, really nothing is impossible to God. Thus is our hope today. Even if death seems to be everywhere, Paul says “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Jesus has already sown the seed of the Kingdom in our world, and nobody can stop Jesus So let us prepare for the coming of the Lord, listening to John the Baptist: Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Fr.
