TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
WORSHIP
DISCIPLINE
It is no accident that the words “disciple” and
“discipline” are nearly identical. Their relationship in
Christian faith and life, however, has fallen somewhat out
of favor in the past generation, as certain prescribed
Church rules and regulations have been reduced and
relaxed. These rules were often referred to as “disciplines
We are mistaken, however, to think that it no longer takes
discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews
assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that
of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a
musician striving for a concert career or to master a new
piece of music. This discipline comes from desire, not
from regulations. It was the desire to do the will of God
that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that same desire he encourages in us today: to strive to enter through
the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the kingdom with a
surprising assortment of people who are there not because
of mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine desire
to recline at the table of the heavenly banquet.

Year of Mercy Installment from
Saint Faustina’s Diary
Once, after an adoration for our country, a pain
pierced my soul, and I began to pray in this
way: “Most merciful Jesus, I beseech You
through the intercession of Your Saints, and
especially the intercession of Your dearest Mother who nurtured You from childhood, bless my native land. I beg You,
Jesus, look not on our sins, but on the tears of little children,
on the hunger and cold they suffer. Jesus, for the sake of
these innocent ones, grant me the grace that I am asking of
You for my country.” At that moment, I saw the Lord Jesus,
His eyes filled with tears, and He said to me, You see, My
daughter, what great compassion I have for them.
Know that it is they who uphold the world (Diary, 286).
Marriage & the Catholic Church
What is an annulment? (3rd of 3 parts)
When it can be substantiated through the
nullity process that a specific marriage is
invalid, then the Church can issue a “declaration
of nullity,” stating the original presumption of
validity from the beginning of marriage was incorrect. The
Church is not declaring a new reality, but a reality that actually
existed from the beginning. What is “new” is that the presumption of validity from the beginning is now declared incorrect.
The Catholic Church remains faithful to the words of Jesus
Christ about marriage, divorce and remarriage (Mk. 10:2-12;
Lk. 16:18; Mt. 5:31-32; Mt. 19:3-11; 1 Cor. 7:10-11, 39; Rom.
7:2-3). For a fuller understanding of the teachings of marriage,
please consult the Catechism of the Catholic Church, #16011666.

We hope that you have visited our music
ministry webpage. Be sure to click onto the
link of the Mass setting entitled “Mass of
Awakening”. Being familiar with this will
make a transition to its inclusion seamless. Target date to introduce it: Christmas
Vigil.
The English speaking choir is learning new choral anthems
almost weekly. Our cantors are also working hard to deliver
messages through the Psalms with greater vocal presence.
I hope to hear from you directly by email or text message if
you see yourself as a potential chorister. Having something of
a choral background will make singing in the choir a pleasant
experience. The most important musical detail: being able to
match pitch.
We have had the pleasure of hearing both Loretta Lane and
Margarita Diego at two different Masses, one in English and
one in Spanish. Each one complimented us for our desire to
sing. So, let us continue to make a joyful noise!
Singing is worship!

DISCIPLINA
MINISTROS PARA EL DOMINGO 28 DE AGOSTO DE 2016
Lectores:

What is an annulment? (3rd of 3 parts)

Bendiciones, Dr. Frankie
