¡EXITO¡ 1 I. GRAMMAR SECTION 2 1. Verb to be ¿Para qué sirve el verbo "to be"? Hora What time is it? (¿Qué hora es? ) It is 10am (Son las 10) It is late (Es tarde) Tiempo It is sunny (Hace sol) It is hot (Hace calor) Is it windy? (¿Hace viento? 1) Write the plural / Escribe el plural de los siguientes ejercicios 2) Write questions and answers as in the example/ Escribe las preguntas y respuestas como en el ejemplo 3 Write questions and answers as in the example/ Escribe las preguntas y respuestas como en el ejemplo 3) Complete the sentence with is, isn’t, are, aren’t, am, am not / Completa los enunciados usando is, isn’t, are, aren’t, am, am 4) Complete the dialogue is, isn’t, are, aren’t, am, am not /Completa el dialogo usando is, isn’t, are, aren’t, am, am 4 2. Possessive Adjectives and ‘s Primeramente veremos los "possessive adjectives": Los adjetivos posesivos son adjetivos porque van antes del sustantivo y son posesivos porque expresan posesión, se pueden utilizar con sustantivos en singular y plural, pero la frase debe de tener sentido: Ex: My car (mi carro). My house (mi casa). Your fruits (tus frutas) =implica que muchas frutas son tuyas. Their t.v. (su t. V. "de ellos") = implica que una sola t. V. Es de todos ellos. Our pen (nuestro lapicero) = implica que un solo lapicero es de todos nosotros. His pencil (su lápiz "de el"). Her mirrow (su espejo "de ella") 5 The "subject pronouns" and the "possessive adjectives" with "to be": My name is omar. = en esta oración, "my" es un adjetivo posesivo, pero la frase "my name" se puede sustituir por su correspondiente "pronombre del sujeto o persona". "my name = it", porque "mi nombre" es una cosa y una cosa se representa por "it", así que es lo mismo decir "it is my name = es mi nombre", que decir "my name is omar = mi nombre es omar". Otros ejemplos en affirmative (afirmativo); negative (negativo); and interrogative (interrogativo): Possessive nouns with names: With names we add the apostrophe plus the letter “s” before the noun or nouns that we want to show possession. Examples: Juan’s brother is sick. (El hermano de Juan esta enfermo) Miguel’s house is very far. (La casa de Miguel esta muy lejos) Carlos’ girlfriend is at the party. (La novia de Carlos esta en una fiesta) o form the possessive for a noun we must add to the noun an apostrophe (‘) and then the letter “s”. Examples of regular nouns: The boy’s name. (El nombre del chico) —- The boys’ toys. (los juguetes de los chicos) The girl’s pen. (el lapicero de la chica) —-The girls’ pen. (el lapicero de las chicas) Example of irregular nouns: The man’s car is in the garage. (el carro del hombre esta en el garaje) —– The men’s cars are in the garage. ( los carros de los hombre estan en el garaje) * Como ven, en los sustantivos regulares tienen que saber donde poner el “apostrophe” (‘) para dejar el claro si es possesión de singular y plural –> boy’s (singular) boys’ (plural). En los irregulares es mas simple por que simplemente se agrega el “apostrophe” mas la letra “s”. —> man’s (singular) men’s (plural) , child’s children’s …etc. 6 1. Look at the family tree and fill in the blanks with the ‘s in the answers below/ Checa el arbol genealogico y contesta con el posesivo ‘s 2. Fill in the blanks with the correct possessive adjective/ llena los espacios con el adjetivo posesivo correcto 7 3. Write the words in the plural in the correct box / Escribe los plurales en la categoria correcta 4. Imperative 9 El imperativo es una forma que se utiliza para: a) b) c) d) dar ordenes - Sit down! dar instrucciones – Mix the ingredients. ofrecer algo – Have a cup of coffee. Hacer una sugerencia – Sit down please. La forma del imperativo, no tiene sujeto, es únicamente el verbo (acción) y el complemento. Como se refiere a la segunda persona, you, para la forma negativa se utiliza el verbo auxiliar do. Ejemplo: Do not sit down! / Don’t sit down 1. Que están diciendo estas personas? Ve las imágenes y une las palabras de el recuadro de abajo y hazlas imperativos 10 5. There is / There are 1. La expresión invariable española HAY se traduce en inglés por dos expresiones distintas: THERE IS para el singular y THERE ARE para el plural. Ejemplos: There is a book on the table (Hay un libro sobre la mesa); There are two books on the table (Hay dos libros sobre la mesa). 2. THERE IS y THERE ARE con el significado de HAY se usan siempre al principio de la oración; por ese motivo se lo llama gramaticalmente el there "introductivo". Mientras en castellano puedes decir indistintamente Hay tres dormitorios en la casa o En la casa hay tres dormitorios, en inglés debes decir siempre There are three bedrooms in the house. 3. ¡ATENCION! No confundas el there introductivo con there (allí), opuesto a here (aquí). Incluso puede ocurrrir que en una misma frase se encuentren ambos there: Ejemplo: There are some trees there (Hay algunos árboles allí). 4. Las formas interrogativas son: IS THERE? y ARE THERE? (¿HAY?). Ejemplos: Is there a book on the table? (¿Hay un libro sobre la mesa?); Are there two books on the table? (¿Hay dos libros sobre la mesa?). 5. Las formas negativas son: THERE ISN'T y THERE AREN'T (NO HAY). Ejemplos: There isn't a book on the table (No hay un libro sobre la mesa); There aren't two books on the table (No hay dos libros sobre la mesa). 11 2. Complete the questions with there is/are and there isn’t/there aren’t. Then write the short answers / Completa las preguntas con there is/are and there isn’t/there aren’t. Despues escribe las respuestas cortas 1. Estos adjetivos concuerdan en número, ya sea en singular o en plural, con el sustantivo al que acompañan, mientras que en género no existen diferencias entre masculino y femenino: This flower is beautiful. I / you / we / they He / she / it eats eat runs run Si el verbo termina en "ss", "sh", "ch", "x", "o", al formar la 3º persona del singular se le añade "-es". I / you / we / they He / she / it I carry He carries I envy He envies Las oraciones negativas se forman con el auxiliar "to do", habitualmente en sus formas contraídas: "don´t" (= do not) para las personas "I, you, we, they", y "doesn´t" (= does not) para las personas "he, she, it". I don't play tennis. Yo no juego al tenis She doesn´t go to the cinema. Ella no va al cine We don´t know the answer.
