T
he first reading sees the creation of
a new "ministry" in the early
Church--one not seen before--the
deaconate. It was created to answer a need-someone was not being cared for by this
"caring community" that called itself the
Body of Christ...so it was imperative that
something be done to care for the ones who
were being ignored. In the Gospel, Christ
says, "Whoever believes in Me will do the
works that I do..." This week's scripture meditations call us to look to the "ignored" among
us--and think of ways to serve them. In the
readings, the Greek widows had voice enough
to complain--today, that may not be as true-the "ignored" among us may have lost their
voice--may have felt so shut out that they
have all but disappeared from view. We need
to think on this as individuals in our families
and our workplaces, and we need to think on
this as a parish. May God give us wisdom and
charity -Fr. Bill Axe
L
May God give us
wisdom and charity

¿
ow does your belief in God and in
Catholicism shape your life? Today’s
readings are challenging you to look
at this and make changes if necessary. I met with
each of the Confirmation students this past month
before their confirmation this week-end. When
asked what it meant to be a Catholic, some of them
stumbled. They knew it but found it hard to put
into words. Let’s remember that our Creed that we
say each Sunday holds the truths of our faith. Our
church is the structure that helps us live these
truths. As we continue through the Easter season,
ask yourself what sort of places do I find “sacred”?
Where and how do I touch God in my life?
sagrados. ¿En dónde y cómo me acerco a Dios en
mi vida?
Congratulations to all our newly confirmed
young men and women. May we be your guide
as you continue to grow in your faith.
Felicidades a todos los muchachos y muchachas
que se han confirmado. Que seamos una guía
mientras seguimos creciendo en nuestra fe.

Hello, my name is Ms. Juarez and I'm 15 years old. I attend High
School and I have been going to St. Agatha since 2005. I started to
serve at the 12:15 p.m. mass and I enjoy it. I am participating as a
candidate for Queen of the 2014 International Festival because I
want to help our parish. When I go to college, I would like to study
forensic science and then work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.). I like to
dance and read about mysteries. My favorite
subjects are Math and Science. I would appreciate your support by buying raffle tickets.
Thank you for coming to St. Agatha and God
bless you!
Hola, mi nombre es Srita. Juarez y tengo 15
años. Asisto a la escuela secundaria y he

Recognizing A healthy scrutiny
Escrutinio de los programas
It is not a best practice for a parent, guardian, employer, or manager to blindly trust everyone who
works with children. Yet, paranoia of those who
work with children is also not a best practice. There is a
healthy balance. By regularly and frequently questioning
the actions and motives of those who work with children,
parents and other adults can audit the programs their
children participate in and help keep caregivers accountable for their work. In this process, parents and other
adults can create a constant fear of being caught in the
mind of a perpetrator. By channeling this kind of healthy
scrutiny and suspicion into accountability, adults can
create an environment where children are protected,
quality care is emulated, and abuse is not tolerated. For a
copy of the VIRTUS® article, “An ounce of healthy suspicion is worth a pound of prevention,” email: [email protected].
