David “Seabo” Glaze,
Congratulations to David. I know
he and the new board will do an outstanding
job for the post.
I would like to thank all of you for your
support the past year. We have paved the
parking lot, installed a pad for the motorcycles,
purchased new furniture for the post (at the
cost of 5,000 dollars less then what was
authorized) and leaving the post in great
financial standing. After this year I will be
taking a break from some of the work here at
the post .... but I will be back.
The general membership meeting for July
is scheduled for July 3rd. Due to that being the

been moved to July 10“‘, but since installation

Fellow Riders,
April and May have been a busy but fun filled couple of months and

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt was a complete success. Our thanks
go out to Vickie Havlicek for her complete dedication and hard
work. Her team of volunteers made the day a complete success
for all the children. I personally, would like to thank all of the
volunteers who helped us this year. It doesn’t matter if you
washed dishes, called a contact, cooked, bought groceries,
donated money or showed up to meetings. Without all of you, we
would not have been as successful. Our taco nights have been
cancelled for June and July. We are in desperate need of
someone to come in and prep, then serve until 5:30pm. I can
come after work every Monday to serve and clean up. Please let
me know if you are interested.
At our May meeting we elected a full slate of officers to serve in the
2010-2011 year. The elected officers are: Director - Kent Hansen;
Assistant Director - Max Bugg; Secretary - Jane Hardacre; Treasurer Bonnie Hansen; Road Captain - Melvin Gephard; Chaplin - Mike

with this truly outstanding slate of officers! Once again a special
thanks goes out to all those who served this year especially, Wayne &
Irma Loughner who served as Assistant Director and Secretary.
Wayne has temporarily moved south to Miami while working at a new
job there but continues to help out whenever he is in town.

American Legion Softball
Team Update
The American Legion team participated
in the 2010 Spring Fling Softball
Tournament at the Gene Hurley Softball
Complex in Defuniak Springs on April
10. The tournament was a double
elimination format. Nine teams
participated in the tournament.
The Legion team faced the following
opponents: Triple Play, Divers Den,
HardKnox, and AFS. In the first game of
the tournament, the Legion faced Triple
Play and came away with a 20 to 8
victory. In our second game, the Legion
team played Divers Den and defeated
them by a 34 to 0 score. The Legion
suffered its second loss of the
tournament and therefore was
eliminated from the tournament.
The Legion team finished third in the
tournament.
As part of the USSSA Military
Conference Softball Tournament
schedule, the American Legion team
participate in the 2nd Annual Mayport
Classic at Naval Station Mayport in
Jacksonville, FL. The tournament
schedule will cover two days of
competition against some very good
military teams. The tournament was a
three game guarantee. The Legion team
would face the following opponents: JNJ
Sports/Jacksonville Navy, Emerald
Coast Military Softball (ECMS),
Seymour Johnson AFB, and Fort
Benning 1.
Competition begin on 17 Apr 10, the first
opponent for the Legion was JNJ
Sports/Jacksonville Navy. After
completing one inning of play, the score
was 5 to 5. The remaining game the
Legion outscored the Navy 23 to 1. The
final score in game one would be Legion
- 28 and JNJ Sports/Jacksonville Navy 6. After this victory, the stage was set to
play a familiar foe from Eglin AFB, FL
(Emerald Coast Military Softball). Back
in March, this was the only team to give
the 'Legion team its only loss in Niceville
FL. The stage was set for a rematch.
The Legion team set the wheels in
motion from the start and went ahead 3
to 0 after the completion of one inning of
play. After one day of action, the Legion
had a 3 and O record.
!
FOR GOD & COUNTRY
The Legion returned to action on
Sunday and it faced a very formable foe
in the next game: Fort Benning 1. Due
to time limit, the final score was Legion 29 and Fort Benning 1 - 20. The Legion
would sit for awhile to find out to see
what team would survive the loser
bracket games and meet the Legion
team for the championship game in the
tournament. Fort Benning 1 survived the loser
bracket game setting up a rematch with
the American Legion team for the whole
nine yards. The final score was Legion 22 and Fort Benning 1 - 12. American
Legion secured the 2nd Annual Mayport
Classic tournament by posting a 5 and
O record.
The American Legion team participated
in the Florida/Alabama Challenge in
Niceville FL (1 May 10). The Legion
team faced the following opponents:
Alaqua, Cat 5, Softball Freak, Dime a
Dozen, and Doc's.
Before I get into the tournament details,
I would like the thank American Legion
Post 356 and Legion Riders for stepping
up to one our fallen players. Kyle
Thompson life was cut short. The
support from the softball community and
the Legion was evident at the funeral
and grave side service. The Legion
team would like to thank you for the
terrific support you have given to the
family in this trying time. Also, a special
time was set aside by the tournament
director to have a somber moment to
reflect on Kyle's untimely passing and
how he relishes the game of softball.
Every team in the tournament appeared
on the diamond at one time to pay there
last respect to a fallen player. American
Legion took 2"d place in the tournament.
American Legion Softball The American
Legion participated in a benefit softball
tournament held at Harder's Softball
Complex on Saturday (8 May 10). The
prize packaged consisted of a cash
payout for the top three finishers. The
following teams finished in the top three:
Fastlane Computers, Silver Bullets, and
American Legion. Since this
tournament was to raise money for the
Thompson family; it was decided that
the top three would also donate the
cash prize to the family. Regardless of
the outcome of the tournament, every
team that participated is a true winner.
A lot of local and some out of town
teams came out to support this worthy
cause. Kudos to the organizers of this
well ran tournament. You could sum up
the tournament by what a notable
individual once said, "We make a living
by what we get, but we make a life by
what we give."
