HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
To the often unsung and quiet heroes of our lives,
our fathers, grandfathers, step fathers, and all those who have ever given
mature, courageous and moral example of real adult manhood our hats are off, our
thanks pour out and our prayers for your continued fathering rise up to God.
God bless you all!
A Father’s Blessing
Father,
I thank you for the gift of my family
for whom I now pray
and upon whom I now ask you
to shower your blessings.
With St. Joseph as my guide,
may I always be ready
to spend my life for them.
Bless my wife whom you have given
to me as my spouse,
sharing in your wondrous work of creation.
May I see her as my equal
and treat her with the love of
Christ for his Church.
May Mary be her guide
and help her to find
your peace and your grace.
Bless my children with your life and presence.
May the example of your son
be the foundation upon which
their lives are built,
that the Gospel may always,
be their hope and support.
I ask you, Father,
to protect and bless my family.
Watch over it so that in the
strength of your love
its members may enjoy prosperity,
possess the gift of your peace and,
as the Church alive in this home,
always bear witness to your glory in the world.
Amen.

“He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid?
Have you no faith?’” – MARK 4:40
Most of us like to be in control. Loss of control makes
us fearful. Try changing your perspective, let God be
the pilot! There’s an old saying “do you want to make
God laugh? Tell him your plans.” Put your trust in
God, He always has a better plan!
Thank you for your continued generosity
May God bless you!
Gracias por su generosidad continua.

Weekly Reflection
Today the Church begins a stretch of Ordinary
Time that will last for five months. The liturgical vigor of the Easter Season and the feasts of the Holy
Trinity and the Body and Blood of Christ settles
down into this long stretch that opens before us. During Ordinary Time the life of Christ is broken open
for us by one of the Gospel writers. This year we have
been hearing the Gospel of Saint Mark. We begin this
week by listening to his account of the Lord Jesus
calming the stormy seas. Through this miracle Jesus
tests the faith of his followers. As we settle into Ordinary Time let us be open to the power of the word of
God to effect change within us. Let us pray that our
faith will be strengthened as we grow more and more
into faithful disciples.
When I was twelve years old I was on a daylong fishing trip off the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts with my father, uncle, and a few cousins.
The day started out a calm one, with small swells
gently lapping the side of our sixteen-foot boat. However, by mid-afternoon a small craft warning had
been issued. This meant that boats the size of ours
should attempt to make it to land as soon as possible.
We were approximately seven miles from the harbor.
Surging through the waves at first was lots of fun as
the water playfully sprayed us. Then, through the salt
spray we noticed a huge oil tanker cutting across the
waters ahead of us. My uncle, who piloted the boat,
warned us that when the wake created by that tanker
hit us, it would be rough going. I remember putting
my head down at that point. I began frantically saying
many Hail Marys and Our Fathers.
That fishing trip ended happily. We made it
safely over the waves created by the wake of the oil
tanker. But that was the day I learned to respect the
ocean and to appreciate its destructive power. One
can only imagine the disciples, most of whom were
experienced fishermen, being tossed about in that
boat with the Lord, who was asleep on a cushion.
These were men who knew the ferocity of the seas. In
the last few years we have all seen the destruction
caused by tsunamis and hurricanes. An onslaught of
water is one of the most frightening things that humans can experience. It is within this context of terrible fright, testing the faith of the disciples, that the
Lord calms the seas. We all have "stormy seas" moments when we experience fear. Let us not be afraid
to turn to the Lord Jesus in faith, asking that he be
with us, giving us healing and comfort.

New Bedford, Massachussets.
tempestad.

FOCUS TEEN NEWS
ALIVE IN YOU
MISSION TRIP 2015
SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS
JUNE 23rd to JUNE 28th
TEENS READY TO SERVE
THANKS TO THE DONATION FROM
OUR HISPANIC COMMUNITY
On a hot summer Saturday morning when
many are still lounging around, there was a flurry of
activity in Halpin Hall as many began to arrive to
prepare tamales. Under the direction of Jose Osuna
and many from our Hispanic community, FOCUS
teens and parents/leaders, together formed a family
of 20 strong and learned the art of making tamales.
Through the generosity of one of our biggest fans,
Jose Osuna, and our Hispanic Community, the day
was full of so much love, as we worked, prayed,
sang and ate together as family. Thank you to our
Hispanic Community and our FOCUS Mission Trip
teens as they worked to make the tamales and then to
sell them in creative ways.
Thank you to our Parish community for supporting FOCUS by purchasing the tamales and the
proceeds totaled just over $1,000.00. FOCUS Mission Trip Teen Disciples: Pauline Rapp, Patty Escutia, Christina Koch, Marie Lombardo, Julianne
Cheng, Beatriz Gonzalez, Tony Melesio, Edgar Hernandez, Melanie Targos, Nathasha Thomas, Matthew Toenjes and Sean Feikes were overwhelmed by
this generous donation towards the Van transportation and chaperones for the Alive in You Mission
Trip. Our teens will participate in this Catholic Mission experience that encourages service to the least
of us and extends the love of Christ through the Eucharist, Reconciliation, Mass, Service, Praise and
Worship, Prayer, talented Speakers, Team Building
activities, and small Faith Groups.
We, the teens, ask for prayers from our parishioners.
We will be praying for our beautiful family at St.
Colette, that through our experience we bring the
light of Christ back to our community so we may
“THRIVE” as one in Christ.
JOVENES LISTOS PARA SERVIR
GRACIAS A LA DONACIÓN DE
NUESTRA COMUNIDAD HISPANA
¡Gracias a
