oving and faithful God, through the
years the people of our archdiocese
have appreciated the prayers and
love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times
of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We
come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother,
and ask you to help us in the battle of today
against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that
we may build a community founded on the
values of Jesus, which gives respect to the
life and dignity of all people.
Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth
that they may be peacemakers of our time.
Give consolation to those who have lost
loved ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity
in our community.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help
us.
Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we
may be a holy family.
Come to the Water
1. O let all who thirst,
let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing,
let them come to the Lord:
Without money, without price.
Why should you pay the price,
except for the Lord?
2. And let all who seek,
let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing,
let them come to the Lord:
Without money, without strife.
Why should you spend your life,
except for the Lord?
3. And let all who toil,
let them come to the water.
and let all who are weary,
let them come to the Lord:
All who labor, without rest.
How can your soul find rest,

4. And let all the poor,
let them come to the water.
Bring the ones who are laden,
bring them all to the Lord:
Bring the children without might.
Easy the load and light:
come to the Lord?
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
the beau2ful, the beau2ful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
And seek where you are found:

Como el Agua
Estribillo
Como el agua que hacia el mar
va desde las montañas,
nuestras manos buscan un lugar
en torno a tu altar,
nuestras manos buscan un lugar
en torno a tu altar.
Shall We Gather at the River
1. Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal 2de for ever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
the beau2ful, the beau2ful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
2. On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
the beau2ful, the beau2ful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
3. Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we ev'ry burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
the beau2ful, the beau2ful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
4. Soon we'll reach the shining river,
4. That when our life
of faith is done
In realms of clearer light
We may behold you as you are
In full and endless sight.

We Walk by Faith
1. We walk by faith,
and not by sight:
No gracious words we hear
Of him who spoke
as none e'er spoke,
But we believe him near.
2. We may not touch
his hands and side,
Nor follow where he trod;
Yet in his promise we rejoice,
And cry 'My Lord and God!'
3. Help then, O Lord, our unbelief,
And may our faith abound;
To call on you when you are near,
“God is rich in mercy . . .” Ephesians 2:4
1. Agua, luz de los arroyos
para el caminante
sediento y sin paz.
Agua, llena tú mis pasos
con la transparencia
que da la verdad.
2. Agua, lava tú mis manos,
voy cubierto de barro
desde el amanecer.
Agua, ven, penetra mi cueva,
necesito encontrarme
al anochecer.

The Servant Song
1. Will you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you;
Pray that I might have the grace
to let you be my servant, too.
2. We are pilgrims on the journey,
We are brothers on the road;
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load.
3. I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night 2me of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
Speak the peace you long to hear.
4. I will weep when you are weeping;
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.
5. When we sing to God in heaven
We shall find such harmony,
Born to all we’ve known together
Of Christ’s love and agony.

Gospel Luke 3:153:15-16, 2121-22
In today’s gospel (Luke 3:15-16, 21-22), Jesus is
baptized in the Jordan River. A Life Teen author
reminds us that we too are sons and daughters of
God. Picture ourselves on the banks of the river,
as we witness this event.
Even though Jesus had no sin that needed to be
forgiven, the Life Teen author reminds us that in
the book, Jesus of Nazareth, Pope Benedict XVI
states that Jesus is baptized because He desires
“solidarity with men... he blends into the gray
mass of sinners waiting on the banks of the Jordan.” Jesus is with us always! Experience Jesus
at Life Teen or Edge.

MANIFESTING THE SPIRIT
The Christmas season closes
this Sunday with the Baptism of
the Lord. This feast is a sister to
last week’s feast of the Epiphany.
Each of them celebrates an
“epiphany,” or a manifestation of
the Spirit of God in Jesus—first in
his birth, and now at his baptism.
The divine Spirit is manifested in all of the scriptures for this
feast. Psalm 104 highlights the
Spirit of God creating and renewing the earth, while the reading
from Isaiah describes God restoring Israel. In Luke’s account of
the baptism of the Lord the Holy
Spirit descends upon Jesus. And
the letter to Titus reminds us that
the Holy Spirit was “richly poured
out” on us also, through the “bath
of rebirth” (Titus 3:5, 6).

SACRED HEART COLUMN
A voice cries out:: In the
desert prepare the way of
the Lord! Make straight in
the wasteland a highway
for our God! Every valley
shall be filled in, every
mountain and hill shall be
made low…Then shall the
glory of the Lord be revealed and all people shall
see it together. Isaiah 40
Isaiah speaks a prophetic word of encouragement to
strengthen the Jews during a time of persecution. The
words he used are echoed by John the Baptist as he
announces the imminent arrival of the Messiah. And
then Jesus arrives at the Jordan river and is seen by all
receiving baptism at the hands of a desert preacher.
“My food is to do the will of the one who sent Me and
to finish His work.”John
4:34 May we follow Jesus as
work.”
He bows to His Father’s will and brings the promise of
salvation to the chosen people. We too are chosen by
the rite of our Baptism and our faith in Jesus the Redeemer. Let us claim that right and look to heaven
from where our salvation springs.
Through our invitation to the Sacred Heart to be the
head of our households, may we experience the protection and graces being poured out right now directly
from the Father through the Son and by the Holy Spirit.

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are in
the Blessed Sacrament. I love You
above all
things, and I
long for You in
my soul. Since I
cannot now
receive You
sacramentally,
come at least
spiritually into
my heart. As
though You have already come, I
embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be
separated from You.
Acto de Comunión
Espiritual
alma. Como
ahora no puedo recibirte
sacramentalmente, al menos ven a mi corazón espiritualmente. Como ya has venido, Yo te
abrazo y me uno enteramente a Ti.
Nunca permitas que me separe de
ti.
