Wee Saints is a developmentally appropriate preschool
which provides a loving atmosphere and a stimulating
environment to help children prepare for kindergarten.
The children are encouraged to have fun, follow directions,
increase social skills and build self-esteem.
Eligibility: 3 or 4 years old by September 1st, 2012
Staff: Licensed pre-K - 6th grade teachers - each over 20
years preschool teaching experience

BIG BUDDY PROGRAM
IS IN NEED OF MENTORS!
Watonwan County Big Buddy
TO BECOME A MENTOR
The Big Buddy program is short of mentors, in all 3 communities: Butterfield, St. James, and Madelia,
and YOU can help! To become a mentor, all you need to do is fill out a short application, provide
references, and complete a background check. You must be 17 years of age or older, and be willing
to spend at least 1-2 hours per month with a child. Contact one of the Big Buddy Coordinators listed
below to apply.
TO BECOME A LITTLE BUDDY
If you are between the ages of 5 and 17, you may join the Big Buddy Program! Big Buddy provides
monthly activities and/or a mentoring relationship with an adult role model. Activities may include
field trips, movies, swimming, and much more. Most activities are free of charge or at a reduced cost
for all enrolled youth.
To apply, there is a short application for both you and a parent to complete. If you are interested in
becoming a part of the Big Buddy program, please contact one of the Big Buddy Coordinators listed
below.

The program is available at no charge to incomeeligible families and children in foster care who are 3 or
4 by September 1, 2012. Head Start serves children
with diagnosed disabilities regardless of severity.

SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS
We offer a variety of services to all residents of Watonwan County. In this issue, we are highlighting just a
few of the social services programs that are available for you or for someone you know. You can
access more information on these programs by calling or stopping by the office. The following programs
are voluntary services and do have some criteria for eligibility.
ELDERLY HOME CARE SERVICES
This is a state program designed to decrease nursing home placements and provide home care to
individuals age 65 or older who meet the financial guidelines.
CADI-HOME CARE SERVICES FOR DISABLED
This is a state program intended to promote community living and independence through supportive
services based on individual needs. This program is for persons under the age of 65, certified disabled,
and meet the financial guidelines.
CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY
This program provides chemical dependency assessments, counseling and assists persons in accessing
treatment programs.
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
This program identifies the need for planning, seeking out, acquiring, authorizing and coordinating
services for persons who are diagnosed with disabilities. This program also monitors and evaluates the
delivery of services and protecting the rights of persons with developmental disabilities.
CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH
This program provides information, referrals, outreach and case management for children who are
diagnosed with a severe emotional and behavioral disorder. This program also provides supportive
services to the family to help them deal with the special needs of children who have mental health
diagnosis.
ADULT MENTAL HEALTH
This program provides information, referrals, outreach, case management and community supportive
services to adults who are diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. This program also helps
with residential services, crisis services and independent living skills.
DAYCARE AND FOSTER CARE LICENSING
This program recruits and licenses daycare and foster care (child and adults) homes. Individuals who
are interested in providing daycare and/or foster care in their family homes can contact our office to
obtain information on the criteria to become licensed. Watonwan County is in need of more licensed
daycare and foster care homes. If interested, please call Human services.
FAMILY FACILITATOR
The Family Facilitator Program is a family focused, user friendly project of the Three Counties for Kids
Collaborative. The mission of the collaborative is to provide early intervention and prevention services
for children. Children who are having problems at home, in school, and/or in the community that keep
them from achieving at school can contact the local school district or Watonwan County Human
Services to access more information.

A deferred loan with no interest to qualifying households to make improvements to their home
x Applicant has the ability to borrow up to $27,000
x The loan is forgivable after 15 years, or when the property is no longer the applicant’s permanent
address or the title has been transferred
x The applicant must own and occupy the property to be improved
x Eligible improvements are those that improve the basic livability for the home.

El Programa Wee Saints es un pre entrenamiento que
proporciona una atmosfera muy carinosa que estimula
anima a los ninos y estar preparados para el jardin de ninos
or kinder.
Los ninos se animan, se divierten, sequir direcciones,
aumentan habilidades sociales y tambien sy autoestima.
Elegibiladad - 3 or 4 anos de edad antes de Sept. 1, 2012. Las
meaestras han trabajado y tienen experienca por 20 anos
ellas tienen licencia para Pre K - 6 grado.

oficina. Los programas siguientes son servicios voluntarios y se tomara cierto criterio para su
elegibilidad.
SERVICIOS DE CUIDADA EN CASA PARA PERSONAS DE AVANZADA EDAD
Este en programa del estado diseñado para disminuir el número de co-locaciones en las casas
de ancianos y proporcionar el cuidado in casa a personas de 65 años o mayores que reúnan
los requisitos financieros.
CADI SERVICIOS DE CUIDADO EN CASA PARA PERSONAS DESHABILTADAS
Este es una programa del estado destinado a proveer la independencia y vivienda en la
comunidad a través de servicios de ayuda bosados en las necesidades de las personas. Este
programa es para personas menores de 65 anos y deshabilitados certificados que reúnan los
requisitos financieros.
DESHABILTADES EN DESARROLLO
Este programa identifica la necesidad de planear, buscar, adquirir, autorizar y coordinar
servicios para perronas que han sido diagnosticadas des habilidades. Este programa también
moni-torea y evalúa la entrega de servicios y protección de derechos de personas con des
habilidades en desarrollo.
SALUD MENTAL PARA NIÑOS
Este programa proporciona infor-mación, referencias, alcances, mane-jo del caso para niños
que han sido diagnosticados con un desorden emo-cional y de comportamiento severo. Este
programa también proporciona servicios de ayuda a la familia para tratar las necesidades
especiales de los niños que diagnostiquen salud mental.
SALUD MENTAL PARA ADULTOS
Este programa proporciona infor-mación, referencias, alcances, mane-jo del caso y servicios
de ayuda comunitaria a personas adultas que hayan sido diagnosticadas con en-fermedades
mentales serias y persis-tentes. Este programa también ayuda con servicios de vivienda,
servicios en crisis y habilidades para poder vivir independientemente.
DEPENDENCIA QUIMICA
Este programa prove evaluaciones de dependencia química, consejería y ayuda a las
personas para entrar en programas de tratamientos.
LICENCIAS PARA GUARDERIAS Y CUIDADO ADOPTIVEO
Este programa recluta y da licencias para guarderías y cuidado adoptivo (niños y adultos) en
casas. Las per-sonas que estén interesadas en proporcionar servicios de guardería y cuidado
adoptivo en sus casas pu-eden ponerse en contacto con nuestra oficina y obtener
información con el criterio de obtener la licencia. El condado de Watonwan tiene la
necesidad de mas guarderías y cuidado adoptivo en casas con licencia. Si está interesado,
favor de llamar a Servicios Humanos.

Para ser un mentor
¡El programa necesita mentores, en todos los
comunidades: Butterfield, St. James y Madelia y TÚ
puedes ayudar! Para ser mentor, todo que necesitas
hacer es llenar una forma corta, tener referencias y
pasar una chequeo criminal. Tienes que tener 17
años y pasar 1-2 horas cada mes con un niño.

programa. También estamos buscando a adultos
responsables que puede ayudar con los eventos y
viajes de Big Buddy.
Para ser un Little Buddy
Si tienes 5 a 17 anos, puedes participar en el
programa Big Buddy! Big Buddy tiene
actividades cada mes y/o un mentor adulto.
Actividades incluye viajes, películas, natación,
y mucho más. La mayoría de los actividades
son gratis y si no puedes pagar, hay becas.
