WORDS OF GREETING FROM PRESIDENT OF
BASQUE COUNTRY
Por primera vez, se va a celebrar un Congreso Médico Internacional de Estética
Integral. Y este evento va a tener lugar en nuestro país y, más en concreto, en
Bilbao durante la celebración del Certamen FIBELL 2008 – Medicina Científica.
Aquí nacerá una Feria Internacional que tendrá carácter bianual.
Nos van a visitar expertos y profesionales de todo el mundo en cirugía plástica,
reparadora y estética, en dermatología, en endocrinología y nutrición, en estética
dental y maxilofacial, en cirugía vascular, en medicina estética y en farmacia. Todos
ellos especialistas en hacernos a todos la vida más saludable.
Vamos a tener, en este sentido, la oportunidad de compartir el conocimiento científico que existe en estos
momentos en todo el mundo alrededor de todas estas especialidades. Está previsto que más de un centenar
de expertos ofrezcan conferencias y alrededor de 4.000 personas participen en los distintos debates previstos.
Como Lehendakari me gustaría desde estas páginas dar la bienvenida a todas las personas que nos van a visitar
durante unos días. Además de cumplir con todas las expectativas profesionales que se han marcado, espero
que todos tengan la oportunidad de conocer un país amable, amante de sus tradiciones y comprometido con
la innovación y el conocimiento. Un país moderno que busca ser un referente en el exterior.
It is the first time an International Medical Conference on Integral Aesthetics will be held and this event will
take place in our country, specifically in Bilbao during the FIBELL 2008 – Scientific Medicine Exhibition. It will,
in fact, be the birth of an International biennial Exhibition.
We are going to be visited by experts and professionals from all over the world who are already working in a
large number of fields linked to plastic, reparative and aesthetic surgery, dermatology, endocrinology and
nutrition, dental and maxillofacial aesthetics, vascular surgery, aesthetic medicine and pharmacy. The aim of
all of these specialists is to make our lives healthier.
We will therefore have the opportunity of sharing all the scientific knowledge currently available in the world
associated with the aforementioned specialities. More than one hundred experts will be giving lectures and
over 4,000 people are expected to attend the technical sessions.
In my capacity as President I would like give my warmest welcome to the people that will be staying among
us for a few days. I do not only hope you will fulfil all your professional expectations, but also trust you will
have the opportunity of enjoying a friendly country that does not have a deep respect for its long-standing
traditions but is also fully committed to innovation and knowledge. Ours is a modern country that strives to
become a point of reference abroad.

Bilbao es una ciudad que gana en las distancias cortas. No es una ciudad
demasiado exuberante, no es una ciudad de grandes espacios abiertos,
pero esa dimensión casi humana que permite recorrerla a pie sin dificultad,
se ha convertido en una de las claves del fuerte carisma que caracteriza
a esta Villa de más de siete siglos de antigüedad, que se resiste a envejecer
y sigue apostando por los grandes valores del progreso humano.
Bilbao se ha convertido también en ejemplo de cirugía urbana, un proceso
todavía en marcha que nos ha permitido, en poco más de una década,
dar el gran salto de lo local a lo universal.
Y desde que Bilbao se ha convertido en referencia internacional de
ciudad hecha para las personas, son cada vez más los sectores profesionales
que escogen nuestra Villa para sus congresos y reuniones, atraídos por
la hospitalidad y el buen hacer de los bilbainos y bilbainas.
En este sentido, nos complace enormemente que Fibell haya elegido el
Palacio Euskalduna de Bilbao para la celebración del primer Congreso
Médico Internacional de Estética Integral.
Bienvenidos/as a Bilbao, feliz estancia entre nosotros, y que la belleza
renovada de esta ciudad sirva de inspiración para este importante evento
científico.
La apuesta por la modernidad, el conocimiento, las tecnologías, y en
definitiva, por todos los avances dirigidos a una evolución positiva en la
calidad de vida de las personas es siempre digna de reconocimiento.
Una apuesta que se va a reflejar en el Congreso Médico Internacional
de Estética Integral que nos ha elegido para desarrollar una iniciativa
pionera en Europa.
Somos, como metrópoli y como territorio, un ejemplo claro de la
trascendencia de la trasformación física y estética junto con la rehabilitación
integral de todo el corpus social, económico y cultural desarrollado en
los últimos años. Conscientes por tanto de la importancia, en este caso
de los avances en materia sanitaria o estética en cuanto a mejorar la
salud y la calidad de vida de hombres y mujeres, no podemos sino
felicitarnos de la reunión, en Euskalduna Jauregia, de expertos destacados
del mundo de la medicina, la odontología y la estética.
Un Congreso Internacional que va a ser el referente de la tecnología,
la modernidad, la investigación o el conocimiento, valores y ejes que
coinciden con los principios que nos impelen en la Diputación Foral de
Bizkaia.
Upon closer inspection, Bilbao improves significantly. It is certainly not
an excessively exuberant city, nor is it a place characterised by large
open spaces, although this quasi-human size, that means that everything
is within walking distance, has become one of the key elements
underpinning a powerful charisma for a town that was founded more
then 700 years ago and refuses to age any further by placing its stakes
on major values linked to human progress.
A commitment to modernity, knowledge, know-how and to

still under way and which, in little more than a decade, has allowed us
to take the great leap from the local to the universal.

Estoy seguro de que la celebración de este Congreso Médico Internacional de Estética Integral va a marcar un hito importante
dentro de las distintas especialidades médicas vinculadas con la estética. Y al mismo tiempo quiero manifestar mi satisfacción
por tratarse de una de las iniciativas congresuales más destacadas dentro de las celebradas en el País Vasco durante los últimos años.
Mis mejores deseos para todos los asistentes a esta magna reunión científica.
I am sure that this International Integrated Cosmetics Medical Congress will mark an important milestone in the different medical specialities linked
to the cosmetic sector. I would also like to say how satisfied I am so see that it is one of the most outstanding conferences to be held in the Basque
Country in the last few years.

Es un honor, un placer y una obligación para mí, como Presidente del Colegio de Médicos de Bizkaia, participar y potenciar,
en la medida de lo posible, la celebración de este gran Congreso Médico Internacional de Estética Integral multidisciplinar
que gira en torno a un valor social en alza, la estética corporal, en sus múltiples facetas.
Debo felicitar al Comité Organizador por haber sido capaz de aglutinar las diferentes disciplinas médicas, odontológicas y
farmacéuticas en un programa tan participativo, amplio, interesante y diverso, contando con ponentes de elevada y reconocida cualificación
profesional.
Me gustaría resaltar la importancia y el valor añadido de este congreso al encuadrar el tratamiento estético dentro de un marco conceptual profesional
y científico, de tal forma que obliga a conjugar y procurar el cuidado de la salud por encima de cualquier otra actuación, favoreciendo, de este modo,
la exclusión social de todas las prácticas pseudocientíficas en torno a la estética realizadas por personas sin cualificación que no buscan otra cosa
que el rendimiento económico, aún a costa de poner en riesgo la salud de las personas. Es decir, puede ser una excelente herramienta contra el
intrusismo.
Estoy convencido de que el congreso será un éxito. Felicidades.
In my capacity as President of the Bizkaia Medical Association it is an honour and a pleasure to attend and promote, to the greatest possible extent,
this first major International Medical Conference on Multidisciplinary Integral Aesthetics focused on the many features of an increasingly important
social value called body aesthetics.
I must congratulate the Organising Committee for their skills in having brought together medical, dentistry and pharmaceutical disciplines within
the scope of such a participative, broad-reaching, attractive and diverse programme featuring highly qualified and professionally renowned speakers.
I would like to underscore both the importance as well as the added value of this conference for having included aesthetic procedures within a
single scientific and professional conceptual framework, in such a manner that health care becomes the central issue relative to actions of any other
kind, thus favouring the social exclusion of all types of pseudo-scientific practices connected to aesthetics carried out by people with no qualifications
and whose sole purpose is to make money even at the expense of the health risks involved for the patient. In other words, it could serve as an
excellent tool to discourage these unqualified people altogether.
I am sure the conference will be a total success. Congratulations.

Como Presidente de la Academia de Ciencias Médicas de Bilbao, es para mí un honor y una satisfacción poder participar
en el Comité de Honor de un congreso tan importante como el Congreso Médico Internacional de Estética Integral, primero
que se realiza en Europa de estas características, y dar la bienvenida a un elenco de ponentes de primer orden así como a
todos los asistentes al mismo.
Quiero felicitar al comité organizador por su esfuerzo y por esta iniciativa que se corresponde con la filosofía de nuestra Academia por la integración
de múltiples disciplinas médicas.
"La Academia de Ciencias Médicas de Bilbao" es la más antigua del Estado Español entre las de su género. Fue fundada en 1895, siendo su primer
Presidente el Dr. D. José Carrasco y Pérez-Plaza.
La Academia ha desarrollado a lo largo de su historia una importante labor socio-sanitaria de la que han sido principales beneficiarios los bilbaínos
y los ciudadanos de Bizkaia.
Desde el principio se definió como una institución libre, pluridisciplinar compuesta por médicos, farmacéuticos, veterinarios, odontólogos-dentistas
y biólogos, creando su propio órgano de expresión: "La Gaceta Médica de Bilbao" que es, con orgullo, la Decana de las Revistas Médicas de España.
Y que el participar en este Congreso, como afirmaba nuestro primer presidente, sea testimonio indudable de ser, más que sabios, personas dignas.

As President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao, it is an honour and satisfaction to be able to participate in the Committee of Honour
of such an important event as the International Integrated Cosmetic Medical Congress, the first of its type to be held in Europe, and to welcome
such a range of first-class speakers as well as its participants.
I would like to congratulate the organising committee for the effort it has carried out and for this initiative, which corresponds to the philosophy
of our Academy in favour of the integration of multiple medical disciplines.
The Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao is the oldest in Spain among those of this kind. It was founded in 1895, its first Chairman was Dr. José
Carrasco y Pérez-Plaza.
Throughout its history it has carried out significant social-health work for its main beneficiaries, the people of Bilbao and citizens of Bizkaia.
From the beginning it defined itself as an independent, multidisciplinary institution made up of doctors, chemists, veterinarians, dentists and biologists,
creating it own voice: “La Gaceta Médica de Bilbao” (The Medical Gazette of Bilbao) which, we are proud to say, is the Dean of Medical Journals
in Spain.
Participating in the Congress, as our first president stated, is the undeniable testimony of being, more than just wise, a dignified people.

PRESENTACIÓN
Aunque para algunos se trate de una especialidad nueva,
desde la Primera Guerra Mundial comenzó un crecimiento
paulatino de avances tecnológicos y científicos (en su vertiente
más reparadora y plástica), que se tornó en exponencial hacia
los años 1950-1960.
A partir de esta fecha, quedó regulada una formación
académica muy protocolizada y elaborada que ha llevado a
que desde hace 40-50 años, paulatinamente se haya disparado
la demanda por parte de la población. No debemos olvidar
que España goza -no sólo en Europa, sino a nivel mundialde un gran prestigio no sólo a nivel académico, sino que en
consecuencia también del nivel sanitario tanto público como
privado.
Todo esto hace que gran parte de la población demande un
cirujano plástico, reparador y estético, para realizar no sólo
grandes reparaciones, sino pequeñas correcciones que hace
años eran impensables, y que se traducen habitualmente en
un altísimo grado de satisfacción por parte del afectado -tras
la cirugía-. En concreto, en España hay un 8% de personas

intervenidas, y un 30% más de pacientes que no tiene
problema alguno en someterse a operaciones de este tipo.
Todo ello se ha traducido en un veloz avance investigador,
tecnológico y de aprendizaje, con dos consecuencias directas:
cada vez más especialidades se arropan entre sí con el objetivo
de mejorar resultados y, a raíz de esto, el paciente obtiene
una amplísima oferta terapéutica.
Al poder compartir esta interrelación multi-disciplinar en
un mismo congreso, -valga como dato el que se trata del
primer certamen europeo de estas características-, “FIBELLCONGRESO MÉDICO INTERNACIONAL DE ESTÉTICA
INTEGRAL”, es digno de elogio. Ponentes destacadísimos
tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, junto con una
audiencia de Médicos Especialistas, Farmacéuticos y/o
Odontólogos debidamente formados y acreditados, pensamos
que, harán de esta cita un proyecto de futuro y calidad. No
en vano España está entre el segundo y cuarto país [según
ratios valorados] en el ámbito internacional, en nuestra
Especialidad.
PRESENTATION
Although some may think it a new speciality, the gradual
growth of technological and scientific advances took place
as of World War I (more in repair and plastic aspects), which
became exponential up till 1950-1960.
As of that date, a highly protocolled academic training was
regulated and prepared leading to a gradual boom in demand
for the last 40-50 years. It should not be forgotten that Spain
enjoys –not only in Europe, but worldwide- an enormous
prestige, not only academically, but also as a consequence
in public as well as private healthcare.
Making a large amount of the population demanding a plastic,
repair and aesthetic surgeon, in order to not only carry out
major repairs, but minor corrections something unthought
of in the past, and this is regularly translated into a very high
level of client satisfaction –post-surgically-. More specifically
speaking, in Spain 8% of the population has been operated
upon, and 30% more patients have no problem at all in
undergoing operations of this type.
This has brought about rapid research, technological and
learning advances, with two direct consequences: more and
more specialities get together in order to improve their
results and, the outcome is that patients obtain a very
extensive range of therapeutic possibilities.
As this multidisciplinary relationship can be shared in one
single congress, -for information’s sake, it is the first European
event of these characteristics-, “
FIBELL-INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATED
AESTHETICS MEDICAL CONGRESS”, should be praised.
First class national as well as international speakers, along
with an audience of duly trained and accredited Specialist
Doctors, Pharmacists and/or Dentists will turn this event

In the preparation of the section dedicated to Dental and
Maxillofacial Aesthetics we wanted to incorporate an ample
and leading range of renowned experts, in order to offer
attendees the state-of-the-art and most advanced clinical
procedures so as to achieve excellent aesthetic results. The

fields, such as oral and maxillofacial surger, orthodontics,
implants, periodontics, prostheses, restaurative dentistry,

PRESENTACIÓN
La Dermatología Estética se ocupa de la aplicación de nuevas
tecnologías en la piel y de la aplicación de sustancias dentro
y sobre ella, con el objetivo de generar una mejoría cutánea
que repercuta tanto en la salud del paciente como en la
percepción de su propia imagen.
Entre las tecnologías más avanzadas que se tratarán en el área
congresual y expositiva destacan los diferentes tipos de láseres,
especialmente los fraccionados, la radiofrecuencia, los
ultrasonidos, distintos tipos de luces, etc. Por su parte, las
sustancias que se insertan dentro de la piel, como la toxina

Aesthetic Dermatology uses the application of new technologies
on the skin and the application of substances within and upon
it, with the aim of generating a cutaneous improvement
affecting the health of our patients as well as in the perception
of their own image.
Amongst the most advanced technologies that will be addressed
in the congress and exhibition areas, those that stand out are
the different types of lasers, particularly fractional,
radiofrequency, ultrasound, different types of lights, etc. The
substances used and inserted in the skin, such as botulinum

PRESENTACIÓN
Las alteraciones vasculares, y más en concreto la insuficiencia
venosa y las varices, afectan a más del 20% de la población,
y aumentan el riesgo de sufrir complicaciones como flebitis
de la variz, sangrado de ésta, atrofia de la piel con
pigmentaciones y tendencia a las úlceras venosas.
También existen las varicosidades pequeñas que, sin ser
peligrosas, tienen posibilidades de mejora estética. La Cirugía
Vascular y la Angiología han progresado en los tratamientos

La obesidad constituye una verdadera epidemia en los países
industrializados. Las estadísticas refieren que un 13,4 % de
la población española es obesa y en Estados Unidos la cifra
es mucho mayor. Además estas cifras están aumentando
rápidamente. La obesidad supone un aumento del riesgo de
padecer enfermedades coronarias, diabetes, artrosis, cáncer,
etc. Por ello, la obesidad no es una cuestión meramente
estética, es una verdadera enfermedad.
A pesar de la importante morbilidad de la obesidad, todavía
nos faltan por conocer con exactitud muchos aspectos de
las causas de esta enfermedad. Se podría simplificar diciendo
que se acumula grasa cuando la energía ingerida en forma

Obesity constitutes a veritable epidemic in industrialised
countries. Statistics suggest that 13.4% of the Spanish
population is obese and that the figure in the United States
is much higher. Furthermore, these figures are increasing
rapidly. Obesity means a greater risk of suffering coronary
diseases, diabetes, osteoarthritis, cancer, etc. This is why
obesity is not merely an aesthetic issue, it is a genuine disease.
Despite the significant morbidity caused by obesity, we still
do not accurately know many aspects of the causes of this
disease. We could simplify by saying that fat is accumulated
when the energy ingested through food is greater than energy

La Dermofarmacia y la cosmética en el sector farmacéutico
son dos aspectos en constante crecimiento y evolución,
siendo de especial consideración en el multidisciplinar entramado sanitario en el que se engloba el congreso internacional
de FIBELL 2008.
Asistimos hoy a una evolución exponencial de la presencia
de los productos dermocosméticos en las farmacias, con un
importante componente de novedad permanente de los
productos. La evolución de las comunidades humanas y de
la estética, el incremento de la vida social y cultural, así como
de los hábitos higiénicos y deportivos, han llegado a establecer
una evidente necesidad del individuo por los productos
cosméticos.
PRESENTATION
Dermopharmacy and cosmetics in the pharmaceutical sector
are two aspects that are constantly growing and evolving,
which deserve special consideration within the multidisciplinary health framework included in the international FIBELL
2008 congress.
We are currently undergoing an exponential evolution in the
presence of dermocosmetic products in pharmacies, with
constant noveltis in these products. The evolution of human
communities and aesthetics, the increase in social and cultural
life, as well as in hygienic and sporting habits, has brought
about an evident need for cosmetic products by individuals.
Como consecuencia del avance tecnológico, el número de
productos utilizables en cosmetología aumenta constantemente y éstos cada vez presentan mejores características
de calidad, inocuidad y seguridad. La Dermofarmacia, por
tanto, está en auge y constituye una parcela de creciente
interés para la clase profesional farmacéutica.
El objetivo de este congreso que se celebra dentro de
FIBELL Medicina Científica es el de ampliar los conocimientos del profesional farmacéutico en los aspectos más
innovadores del mundo de la cosmética y la Dermofarmacia.

especialidades científicas se atenderán por orden riguroso de
inscripción.
La inscripción incluye: Asistencia a las sesiones del programa
científico del Congreso Médico Internacional de Estética

las sesiones de las demás especialidades, siempre que el aforo
lo permita), asistencia a la exposición comercial,
documentación, coffee break, acto de bienvenida, certificado

Para los Higienistas Dentales y Auxiliares es necesaria la

La fecha límite de recepción de inscripciones es el 13 de
junio de 2008. A partir de esta fecha, la inscripción y el pago
de la misma se realizarán, en efectivo, en la Sede del Certamen
(Palacio Euskalduna) durante los días de celebración del
mismo. Tendrá un recargo aproximado del 20% sobre el
último precio indicado en las cuotas de inscripción.
Se considerarán inscritas todas las personas que hayan realizado
el pago por tarjeta de crédito o hayan realizado la transferencia

Registration includes: Attendance to the scientific
programme of the International Integrated Aesthetics Medical
Congress according to the speciality selected (attendance to
all of the other sessions depending upon seating capacity),
attendance to the commercial exhibition, documentation,
coffee breaks, welcome ceremony, attendance certificate and
pertinent training credits. Working lunches and leisure and
partner activity programmes may be requested independently.
Training Attendees must hand in the pertinent certificate
provided by their head of service verifying said condition. It
should then be sent via fax (+34) 94 435 66 95 along with
the registration form or within five days after on-line registrtion.
Dental Hygienists and Assistants must provide the
accrediting documentation via fax (+34) 94 435 66 95 along
with the registration form within five days after on-line
registration.
The deadline for reception of registrations is June 13th
2008. As of this date, registration and payment will be in cash,
at the Venue of the Event (Palacio Euskalduna) during the
duration of the Congress. A 20% surcharge will be applied

Nos complacerá recibirles en FIBELL 2008- Medicina Científica, Certamen bienal de carácter
exclusivamente profesional dirigido a los sectores médicos, odontológicos y farmacéuticos, que
celebraremos en Bilbao entre los días 20 y 23 de junio de 2008.
El programa definitivo del Certamen es ambicioso y con él hemos pretendido la máxima calidad,
concentrando ponencias de profesores de prestigio. Por ello, FIBELL y su primer Congreso Médico
Internacional de Estética Integral ofertará a los asistentes profesionales las primicias científicas y los
últimos avances del conocimiento de los sectores médico-científicos implicados en la Cirugía Plástica,
Reparadora y Estética; la Estética Dental y Maxilofacial; la Dermatología; la Medicina Estética; la Cirugía
