Special Earth Week Exhibition at the Farmers’ Market Sunday, April 27, 2014 The Certified Farmers’ Market will feature a special Earth Week Exhibition sponsored by R R Broadcasting on Sunday, April 27th from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Old Town La Quinta Event Lawn. The theme of the Exhibition will be Green Cities, showcasing businesses that provide Green products and services to consumers. Areas of focus will be: Energy, Green Buildings, Transportation, Green Products, Water Conservation and Healthy Living. Did you know... Light bulbs in more than 800 fixtures throughout Old Town La Quinta were switched from mainly incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs. By making the lighting switch, Old Town has improved the electricity efficiency on lighting by more than 80 percent over the last 16 months. Meet the latest Old Town La Quinta Enthusiast co-winners! Earth Month at Alankara Aveda Salon April is Earth Month at Alankara Aveda Salon, a time when the business focuses on raising money to improve the environment. Throughout the month, the salon is featuring Aveda’s Light the Way Candles (Soy candles in recycled wine cooler glass containers) for $12 each, with 100% of the profits going directly to Global Greengrants Fund (GGF), a non-profit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve pressing environmental problems. Alankara Aveda Salon is also raising money for Surfrider Foundation USA, a grassroots non-profit environmental organization that works to protect and preserve the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches. Children ages 10 and younger are welcome to participate in this fun family event. Candy and toy-filled eggs will be scattered throughout the park for children to find.
