Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle. WEEKLY OFFERING In the past the parish would publish the weekly offerings and compare them to a budgeted amount, based on “Fair Share Offerings.” The publishing of this information was discontinued at the recommendation of the Diocese due to a number of burglaries that have occurred at some parishes in the Diocese. Your weekly offerings are very important to the parish in order to meet our operational responsibilities. We ask that each parishioner continue to prayerfully consider a consistent offering that will assist in meeting those responsibilities Your generosity is your return to the Lord for his goodness to you. Make an investment in the reign of God today! Counseling Services St. Anne's is providing individual, couples and family counseling. The provider is Marie Hall, MSW, who is a licensed clinical social worker. Please contact her at 925-634-6625 ext. 228 or at [email protected] for more information regarding fees or to schedule an appointment. Nurses Notes: Natural remedies for Headaches Headaches can be treated with over-the-counter medications. In case you suffer from persistent or recurring headaches, it would be best to consult a doctor, as this could be indicative of a more serious underlying condition. There are several natural remedies for headaches, but you should keep in mind that most natural methods of treatment are unreliable and not backed by scientific research. While some of these remedies could help, others may actually aggravate the condition. Here are some of the most common natural cures for headaches: Massage therapy can also be used to relieve headaches as it helps to relax the head, neck, shoulders and back muscles. Aromatherapy makes use of different essential oils. Oils such as lavender, chamomile, peppermint and rosemary induce a sense of relaxation and thus help to reduce pain and discomfort. A common cause of headaches which is often ignored is dehydration. Drinking a tall glass of cool water will help to relieve pain. You can also alleviate a headache by taking a warm shower. Allow the water to stream down the neck and shoulders. This helps to relax the muscles and enhances blood flow. You can also make use of aromatherapy soaps or body washes. You can even add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to bath water and soak in it for some time. Cold packs are one of the best home remedies for headaches. Place the pack over the affected area and keep it there for about ten minutes. This will help to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. You can use an ice pack or a towel soaked in cold water. In many cases a headache occurs when your body is exhausted. When this happens, the best way to obtain relief is to rest for a while, lie down and close your eyes for some time. Calcium supplements help to improve blood flow and alleviate pain by relaxing the muscles. Your doctor may prescribe calcium and magnesium supplements as these are more effective in treating headaches. Exercise helps to improve blood circulation and ensures a better supply of oxygen to the body. Doing simple exercises before and after a headache is beneficial. In order to prevent headaches from occurring, make it a point to exercise regularly Faith Community Nursing Serving the community is our passion. IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY PLEASE use the phone at the AV booth or in the office to call 911. Do not use your cell phone it will reach Sacramento CHP and precious time will be lost. 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time • 18th Domingo en Tiempo Ordinario August 4, 2013 • 4 de Agosto de 2013 SERVE Mission Cooperative Appeal August 17-18, 2013 Fr. Bill Auth OSFS (Oblates of St Francis de Sales) will be making an appeal for the mission work of his religious community. Fr. Bill has worked for years with the Mayan Indians on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. He is also a personal friend of mine. We have traveled together with another friend of mine Fr. John Kasper OSFS. He is a dynamic personality and speaker. The Oblates of St Francis de Sales were established in France in 1876. They came to North America in 1893 to work among the Native Americans of Oklahoma. Today, more than 300 Oblates serve in North America in Canada and the USA. They also have many missions throughout Latin America, India, and Europe. The second collection the weekend of August 17-18 goes to the efforts of Fr. Bill and other missionaries who are spreading the Good News. Please be generous—Fr. Blood Drive Results Thank you to all who donated blood or volunteered to assist with our Interfaith Community Blood Drive on Wednesday July 24th. As a result of our efforts 76 people will be helped. We obtained 38 usable units. The 38 units obtained ties our previous high number from last January. The large number of “no-shows” for appointments kept us from setting a new St. Anne record for usable units. However, the 38 usable units obtained this time were on 53 appointments versus 72 appointments last January. We were smaller but more efficient. FYI other statistics are: Donation slots: 97 Walk-ins 7 16% of Potential Donors Scheduled appointments: 53 55% of available slots Potential Donors: 45 Appointment No-shows: 14 26% of appointments St. Anne Volunteers: 21 Usable units: 38 84% of potential donor units Thank you again!” SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING It is our parish site’s year to retrain on Safe Environment for Children Procedures. All parish volunteers and employees must update their training by attending a Safe Environment for Children training class or take the training online at www.shieldthevulnerable.org . For the on-line course, please print your Certificate of Completion and turn it in to the parish office. Also, an $8 donation would be helpful to cover the cost of the training. For those who cannot take the training on-line, there will be a Safe Environment training session offered at St. Anne on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00PM in Room 2 and other parishes throughout the Diocese. Please continue to check the bulletin or our website (www.stannechurchbyron.com) for dates and times of onsite training. If you received the Safe Environment training at another parish since July 1, 2013, please provide a copy of your training documentation to the parish office for our records. Please contact Lisa Promani [email protected] or 634-6625 for any questions or concerns. Thank you for helping to protect our children.
