The Border Inspection Post of the Port of Bilbao is
situated between the old Santurtzi Breakwater and the
Noatum Container facilities on Dock A-1. It occupies
3,800 square metres of built surfaces subdivided into
two zones. The first, with an area of 1,350 square metres, is dedicated to offices, while the second 1,900 is
equipped with the most advanced industrial cold technology, thermal isolation systems and resistant and
easy-to-clean materials.

Security is another key characteristics of the Port
of Bilbao. In this regard no effort is spared to
guarantee high standards in both safety – in work
and industrial terms as well as in technological
risks and dangerous goods handling - and in
security - with the introduction of the International
Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS)
as promoted by the IMO Security Committee.
With regard to security, the Port
Authority of Bilbao, in collaboration
with the Interior Department of the
Autonomous Basque Government and
with the Ministry of the Interior, has an
Integrated Security System that provides
smooth and effective solutions for the
security needs of the many Port users.

per day, 365 days per year.

to simplify and improve
operating processes
Opting for state-of-the-art technology in the logistic and business processes has been one of the basic premises in the
strategic plans of the Port of Bilbao to increase competitiveness. Today, approximately 800 companies use the “e-puertobilbao” technological platform which expedites and simplifies the document exchange processes required to provide
shipping and goods services.

For Short Sea Shipping operations, by means of the
single electronic window, a ship’s arrival is cleared
before the Port Authority, Merchant Navy and basic Services (pilots, tugs and mooring) with a single
click. With a second click the goods departure is
cleared. This process is carried out from any location, with no paperwork involved, with the added
extra of being able to monitor the ship or goods services “online”.
Other services shall be added to the range of services currently on offer from this platform to complete
the whole logistics chain. These services shall serve as a tool for the loader to monitor their goods.
