49th District
court issues
indictments

Aggravated
robbery,
aggravated assault and
injury to a child top the list
of
recent
indictments
released by the 49th District
Court Thursday.
Hijinio Gonzalez, 19, was
named in three indictments
charging him with aggravated robbery felonies stemming from three unrelated
holdups.
Gonzalez allegedly used a
deadly weapon in his robbery attempts against
Ricardo
Vela,
Dora
Martinez and Jose G.
Escamilla. The offense
against Vela occurred on
Mar. 28, Martinez on Mar.
29 and Escamilla on Apr. 4.
In an unrelated incident,
Luis Moncada, 20, was
indicted on a charge of
aggravated assault with a
deadly weapon. Allegedly,
Moncada shot Cristobal
Cervantes with a sawed-off
shotgun on Apr. 29.
A separate charge of aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon was filed against
Pelagio Gonzalez, 18, in an
incident that allegedly took
place on Apr. 3. The victim,
Luciano Garza, was shot and
appears on the witness list to
testify against the alleged
suspect.
Jaime Vasquez, 30, was
charged in a separate
indictment on three counts
of injury to a child.
In mid-March, he allegedly
caused injury to the child’s
hand and face by throwing
the child out of his mobile
home, located on the 3500
block of Sinaloa Street.
All defendants are scheduled for arraignment on Oct.
12 in the 49th District Court.

Man arrested
for TVs theft

Police arrested a man
Wednesday in connection
with the theft of more than
250 televisions.
Ricardo Ramirez, 41, was
arrested and charged with
theft. He was released from
Webb County jail Tuesday
afternoon after posting a
$40,000 bond set by Justice
of the Peace Danny Valdez.
Ramirez is accused of
stealing 266 televisions.
On Aug. 10, police raided
a northwest side warehouse
on the 1900 block of Justo
Penn Street.
Police confiscated 96 19inch and 170 13-inch
Sylvania televisions.
“We were working off a
tip,” police detective Robert
Ramirez said.
He reported that two days
before, police received
information stating that
brand new televisions were
being sold there for prices
much cheaper than what
they should be.
“They were selling 19-inch
for about $90 and the 13inch for about $40,” Robert
Ramirez said.
Plus, the fact that the business is not a retail merchant
was another reason he suspected the selling of televisions was not legitimate.
The owner of the warehouse and two other suspected accomplices were
taken in for questioning, but
were not forthcoming with
information.
“They exercised their right
to remain silent,” Robert
Ramirez said.
At that time, police did not
have sufficient evidence to
merit an arrest.
Robert Ramirez said that at
the time of the raid, although
they strongly suspected the
televisions were stolen, they
didn’t have a victim.
Nobody had come forward
to report the televisions
stolen, he said.
After an investigation, police
determined that the televisions
were originally destined for an
Air Force and Army Exchange
in Waco.
