
St. Patrick was a slave. At the age of 16 he was
kidnapped and sold as a slave by Irish raiders.

St. Patrick wasn't Irish, and he wasn't born in
Ireland. Patrick’s parents were Roman citizens living
in modern day England.

The original color associated with St. Patrick is blue,
not green as commonly believed. Years later the
color was switched to green because of the greenness
of the countryside.

Your odds of finding a four–leaf clover are about
1 in 10,000.

There are more Irish in the USA than Ireland...
about 34 million Americans have Irish ancestry,
but there are only about 4.2 million
people living in Ireland.
COLOR
“My stuffed monkey
because it’s softer than
my bear.”
Andrew Emens, K
“My rabbit because my
grandma and grandpa got
it for me.”
Ava Verastegui, PreK
“The first ring my mom
ever gave me.”

Kraftwerk Fuel Cell: For $159, this gas power ed USB
device is able to charge an iPhone 11 times before needing
more fuel. It also has up to 10 Watts of output, meaning that
it can charge even the most power hungry devices!
Microsoft HoloLens: Although similar in appear ance to devices such as the Oculus
Rift and Samsung VR, the recently announced HoloLens is not as immersive as a Virtual
Reality headset is- but in a good way. This headset will be a fully independent computer
running Windows 10, and will be capable of pinning simulated holograms in the real world,
such as apps, information, and even multi-dimensional videos, which you can interact with.

Victoria Hernandez (Sr.), Cassidy Howard (Jr.), Phillip
Hooper (Jr.), Mykayla Garza (Jr.), Alexis Delgado (So.)
attended the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) U.I.L.
Art Competition for Region 2 on February 21st
They qualified their work and then met for a Student
Interview with a judge. Their interview topics and
questions were taken from the following categories:
Cassidy Howard’s “Giving” Mixed Media &
Vicky Hernandez’s “My Deer” Printmaking
Submitted to the VASE UIL Contest
*Student Research and Application of Work
*Execution and Technique
*Use of Elements and Principles of Art
*Aesthetics and Critical Judgment
*Personal Expression
The evaluation was based on Purpose, Technique, Personal
Expression, Organization, and Integration.
It was a great experience for these students and they
conducted themselves beautifully. I am very proud of what
they learned. Cassidy Howard & Vicky Hernandez both
medaled in different divisions. It was a great beginning for
McMullen County in UIL Art.

She gave me quite a few of hers and
I went on from there. My favorite is
the one holding the colorful flowers
because it reminds me of her.”
“I became interested in collecting
toy cats after reading Warriors.
My favorite cat is the big scruffy

to me. I’ve had her for as long as I
can remember. She’s the best!”
“I have collected salt and pepper
shakers since I was 6 years old when
my mom gave me a set shaped like a

500 sets since then, my favorite one
being a mother & joey kangaroo.”
