The wooden manger was the first Cross. The swaddling bands were the first burial bands. The Passion had begun. – Caryll Houslander, from The Reed of God DECEMBER 27, 2015 + Holy Family + “[Jesus] went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. It’s a good day to think about the hardships (and joys) of the Holy Family in Bethlehem (then Nazareth). Remember Joseph and Mary had no knowledge of what would happen to them or their Son. They had to “live by faith,” as do we. Make sure Jesus is welcome as “a part of your family” if in no other way than by your deep love for one another. Masses will be celebrated on THUSDAY at 5:30 and 7:00 (en espanol) (Vigils) and on FRIDAY at 9:30, 11:15 and 12:30 (en espanol). AS IS OUR CUSTOM OF FEDERAL HOLIDAYS, the rectory office will be closed and the 5:30 Mass will NOT be celebrated. Continued Merry Christmas! We hope your Christmas Day celebrations went well. Ours did. The liturgical season of Christmas lasts until the th Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord on January 10 . Know your faith and allow God to continue to halve your sorrows and double your joys! Bienvenida, Padre! In keeping with a longtime sacerdotal hospitality ministry at Holy Trinity Parish, we have a priest-visitor with us this Christmas season. Padre Pedro Gómez Diaz, Rector de Seminario Metropolitano de Concepción, Chile, is attending English classes in the City, and is residing in the rectory through January 28th. If you see him, give him a hearty “Holy Trinity welcome!” The “Business” Side of Holy Trinity Parish Keeping you informed about the financial management of Holy Trinity, the material needs of which depend almost exclusively on your weekly contributions. Thank you. Thinking of an “end-of-the-year “donation to our parish? That would be very much appreciated. * * * * * * * * PRAYER SEEDS Justice before charity! Pope Saint John XXIII I Didn’t Know That! See, everyday, you can learn something new [about your Catholic Faith]. The familiar papal flag features two fields, one yellow, and the other white, with the papal coat of arms (the intertwined, crossed keys of St. Peter, surmounted by the papal tiara). Practical Christianity It’s Really Easier Than You Think Read the lyrics to the hymns you don’t care to sing. It is prayer, and God uses sacred song to further untie the Assembly. A Good Old Prayer You call us to delight in Your praise, for You have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless till they rest in You. St. Augustine * * * * * * * * HT Nuts and Bolts HT Parish Manager Update Just to let everyone know, we must monitor + our 103-year-old [upstairs] church building + our 117-year-old Murphy Center original church + and our 88-year-old rectory every day. A few of the many, large and small maintenance repairs/improvements that we have been (or are) working are: (1) painting of the rectory conference room, (2) painting of the Murphy Center, (3) conversion to LED bulbs/electrical systems, (4) complete overhaul of the church boiler, [Feeling warmer these days?] (5) restoration of a few sacred vessels, (6) replacing of stained glass window frames, (7) repair of broken pews and kneelers. Thanks to your generosity, everything has been paid for, except for #6 and #7, which are only 90% funded. La Sagrada Familia Sophia, ChurchMouse Years ago, when some people would become exasperated, they would exclaim, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph!” [Anyone remember that?] It often wasn’t said in a prayerful manner (if you get my drift.) Inevitably, grandma or grandpa, would add “… pray for us!” thereby turning an angry phrase into a beautiful prayer. Not bad! Do likewise, friends. “God bless us, everyone!”
