We were really surprised by the beauty o f the site. Even if the Arto is Flandres Industrial park is a place that has been reco mpo sed by the hand o f man, nature has no netheless reasserted itself. We were to uched by the “po etic” atmo sphere; o utstanding in a business area. In particular, the channel, the peaceful blue co rrido r inviting to travel; the wo o d planted o n the nearby slo pes, the island in ditches; twin slag heaps, tribute to the mining culture... We wanted immediately to build a pano ramic viewpo int to place the visito r at the heart o f this landscape. By elevating the building, it was po ssible to pro vide future o ccupants in co nstant co ntact with the enviro nment. On the gro und flo o r, the visito r passes thro ugh a carpet o f ferns and go es to the fro nt do o r. A staircase then leads to the heart o f the building, the large landing upstairs ho me serving all living spaces. Co nceived as a nave-atrium with a glass ro o f, this area o ffers a 36 0 ° view: the sky and shrubs planted o n the ro o f, as well as the surro unding landscape by transparency created thro ugh the o ffices. The living areas, o ffices and co mmo n ro o ms, surro und this atrium, balanced and symmetrically, each benefiting fro m different directio ns and different landscapes. On energy and the enviro nment, we tried to reach the 15th target o f high enviro nmental quality (HQE), which tends to co rrect the eco lo gical fo o tprint ... In the case o f a co nventio nal co nstructio n; the influence o f the buildings is permanently lo st to the detriment o f the bio diversity. We have therefo re cho sen to minimize the building impact o n the eco system, resto ring lo st space: o n stilts, the building will be co vered with a ro o f garden. REGAIN (bis) preserves o f maximum the so il and recreates o n the ro o f a “memo rial" o f bio diversity remo ved. We invite thus, bio diversity in bo th the building and under the building: shrubs, grasses, bulbs and plants o n the ro o f, ferns under the building, recreating an image as the different strata o f the fo rest enviro nment, the undergro wth and the cano py.
