Short Vitae Soledad Ballesteros, Ph.D. Full Professor of Basic Psychology Director, Department Psicología Básica II Facultad de Psicología Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) Juan del Rosal, 10 28040 Madrid (Spain) E-‐mail: [email protected] Phone.: 34 91 3986227 Fax: 34 91 3986234 Director, PhD Program Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases. Honors Program, DGU (Ref. MCD2003-‐00411) Director, Modular Program on Gerontology (Master and Expert Degrees) Director, Consolidated Research Group (SAND) Studies on Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases (UNED) Biography and Research Interests Dr. Ballesteros is Professor of Psychology at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and full-‐time faculty member, Director of the Aging and Cognition Laboratory and the Research Group Studies in Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases. Her research interests focus on memory processes (implicit and explicit memory, working memory) in normal and pathological aging, attention, cross-‐
modal priming, haptic and visual perception and cognitive neuroscience of aging. She has investigated for the last twenty years on implicit and explicit memory in young and older adults (normal aging and Alzheimer´s disease patients) using behavioral methods as well as neuroimaging techniques (electrophysiological recordings and functional magnetic resonance imaging). Her current research focuses on methods to improve the mental health and wellbeing in the old age using new information and communication technology, networking and brain training. Dr. Ballesteros received her Psychology´s degree with the highest honors at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1972 and the PhD degree at the same University in 1979. She won the First Graduation Award in Psychology at the UCM and the National Prize in Psychology (Spain). She first served at the Universidad Computense de Madrid and joined the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in 1983 where she served as Associate Professor. Director •
