Faucher Father Camacho has a great article (below) on the call from Pope Francis for vocations. Later on this year, my 40th anniversary of ordination homily will be reprinted in the MAGNIFICAT newsletter. I have chosen for my column today to print two paragraphs from that homily on vocations to priesthood and Holy Orders. ~Father Tom Faucher ____________________________________________________________ Who, how and why some are called to become bishops, priests and deacons are mysteries we will never know. What we do know is that God invites some to follow him in this special way, and when they say yes, and when they are chosen by the Church, then they receive the sacrament of Holy Orders. . . Two things that stand out in all I have learned is that first, spiritually healthy priest understand that his true worth and value come from being a person, not having been ordained a priest. This leads into the second, which is that no one is ordained a priest for himself. Priesthood is for others, and priesthood can only be lived in relationships with others. Lived priesthood is a relationship between the priest and the People of God. Fr. Tom Faucher JORNADA MUNDIAL PARA LAS VOCACIONES. Su amigo y servidor ~ Padre Jesus Camacho WORLD DAY FOR VOCATIONS. ''The Exodus Fundamental Experience of Vocations'' is the title of the message of Pope Francis for the 52nd World Day of Prayer for Vocations, celebrated today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter. This message throughout the world includes bishops, priests and consecrated. “The Church is truly faithful to her Master to the extent that it is a Church 'outreach', not concerned about herself, nor for her structure and her conquests, but rather is able to be present, to get moving in finding God’s children wherever they are, to feel compassion for their hurt and pain," said the Pope. In the text, the Pope explains that at the root of every Christian vocation there is an exodus that starts from the renouncement of the comfort and inflexibility of the self in order to go forth trustfully, like Abraham, towards the “new land” that God indicates to us. It is a dynamic towards God and towards man that fills life with joy and meaning, as Francis says to the young, urging them not to let uncertainties obstruct their dreams, and not to be afraid to go forth. The Pope entrusted all vocations to the Virgin Mary, model of every vocation, who did not fear to utter her 'fiat' in response to the Lord’s call. She is at our side and she guides us. However, the Pope does not deny the lack of vocations. We need to ask the Lord as well as to do everything that we can to increase vocations," confirmed Francis last week to the International Convention of Trainers for Consecrated People, who gathered in Rome last week. For over 50 years, the Church has celebrated the World Day of Prayer for Vocations each Fourth Sunday of Easter. Your friend and servant ~ Fr. POPE FRANCIS QUOTES FROM “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” The Church is called to be the house of the Father, with doors always wide open….Everyone can share in some way in the life of the Church; everyone can be part of the community, nor should the doors of the sacraments be closed for simply any reason. This is especially true of the sacrament which is itself “the door”: baptism. The Eucharist, although it is the fullness of sacramental life, is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak. ~ Pope Francis $91,490 Our parish goal is $91,490 and so far we have received pledges of $73,041. If you have not yet made your contribution, please do so today. We are at 79% of our goal; however, only 15% of our parishioners have donated. Every gift is important—and necessary—if our parish and diocese are to continue to effectively serve others. Pledge envelopes are located in the narthex or at the parish office. NFP courses teach married and engaged couples the scientific sympto-thermal method of fertility awareness. NFP calls for shared responsibility by husband and wife, eliminates the use of harmful hormones and chemicals, can be used by women with irregular cycles, and helps couples celebrate God's vision of human sexuality. Through NFP, fertility is viewed as a reality to live, not a problem to be solved. It is over 99% effective at postponing pregnancy and has greater success than other interventions have had at helping couples struggling with infertility. The three-course series will be held at the Riffle Center, St. John's Cathedral, Sundays from 12:30-3:00, May 31, June 28, & July 26. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please contact Jeff and Erika Cowman ASAP at [email protected]. BISHOP KELLY YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP The camp will be held June 22-25 for grades 4-8 for the 2015-2016 school year.
