PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
Nothing Ordinary about Ordinary Time
Authored by David Saunders from a Blog entitled A View from the Loft
I think the term "Ordinary" is an unfortunate label given to
these Sundays between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday, because it carries with it the implication (completely understood
given the use of the term in regular speech) that these Sundays are commonplace. "Ordinary". Actually, it means
"ordered" and refers to the numbered Sundays that fall outside
the revised structure of the calendar that came out of the Second Vatican Council.
It's unfortunate that the importance of these weeks between
Epiphany and Ash Wednesday often get lost. Even in the modern Church, most musicians and liturgists consider the Christmas season to be over by Epiphany, or at the very latest the
Feast of the Baptism. Most churches will appear barren as all
of the decorations have been pulled down and the
"ordinary" (read, commonplace) decorations (plants, etc.) will
have been returned to their usual place.
Here's what a wonderful little hand missal I own teaches about
the Christmas Cycle:
Advent is composed of four weeks, during which we long with
the patriarchs and prophets for the coming of our Lord.
Christmas brings before our eyes the birth of the Word Incarnate, Who is born in us, and His Epiphany, or manifestation to
the world.
The time after the Epiphany includes from one to six Sundays,
which recall to us the hidden life of Christ at Nazareth, and
manifests to us His divinity.

FAITH WORKING THROUGH LOVE
2013 DIOCESAN SERVICES FUND
Our 2013 Diocesan Services Fund begins next weekend. Every
parish throughout the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston participates. Christ calls us to reach those who are sick or in need, to
bless them and serve them. The thousands of people served by
the ministries of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston need
our compassion and generosity. Gifts to the DSF enables us to
reach out to people in this parish and through the Archdiocese
through more than 60 important and much needed programs.
This week, all registered parishioners will receive a letter from
Archbishop, Cardinal DiNardo, along with a pledge card, inviting
you to hear Christ’s call of “faith working through love” by participating in the 2013 DSF. Please pray about your DSF commitment, then complete the pledge card and return it via mail or
bring it to Mass next weekend. Online contributions can be
made at www.archgh.org/dsf. Thank you for your generosity as
we work together to meet our parish goal of $68,000.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED,
WE PRAY...
I don't think there's anything particularly "ordinary" about these
Sundays that come after Epiphany and I hope that you will
share in the ongoing feasting and celebration. Lent and it's
time of fasting and preparation will begin soon enough.

You are invited to a Knitting Class! The Council of Catholic Women invites the women of the
parish to attend their February meeting on Tuesday, February 5, 9:30 am. We are learning to
knit caps for the Seafarers’ Mission, located at
the Port of Houston. Anyone who wants to either learn to knit or
learn how to make the hats, please bring No. 10 knitting needles
to the meeting. For beginners we will have practice yarn available. For those who are experienced in knitting, please bring
yarn as you will be able to start making your hat. Come and
share in the fun and hospitality while learning to knit!
Give the Gift of Life! The next blood drive at
Corpus Christi will be held on Sunday, February
10 in Prefontaine Hall. As Valentine Day approaches let us offer a valentine to someone
through a blood donation. Jesus said when we
aid the least of his brethren we do it for Him (Mt
25:40). So, sign up to donate and save this date.
May her soul and all the souls of the faithful
departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

pastorales para ayudar a la gente enferma, pobre y encarcelada; la formación y educación de los lideres de la iglesia;
$68,000.

MINISTERIO HISPANO
