Los convocamos a todos a acompañarnos en la celebración de nuestro aniversario
500: empresarios, intelectuales, obreros, campesinos, estudiantes, trabajadores
estatales y de las nuevas formas de gestión no estatal, cooperativistas, religiosos,
miembros de asociaciones fraternales, Organizaciones no Gubernamentales.
Tenemos la seguridad y el orgullo de que en sus 500 años de existencia, Santiago de
Cuba recibirá el aporte de todo el país y de otros países del mundo. Compartamos
juntos este histórico momento.

founding of the villa once Santiago de Cuba.
La legendaria y auténtica Santiago de Cuba
cumplirá 500 años de fundada el 25 de julio del
2015, acontecimiento que nos convoca, desde
ahora, a multiplicar nuestras acciones en todas
las esferas de la sociedad. Ello es motivo más
que suficiente para que los hijos de este indómito
pueblo rindamos el merecido tributo a este gran
acontecimiento.
A Santiago se le reconoce como la Ciudad de la
Historia, por el aporte decisivo de sus hijos al
acontecer histórico de la nación cubana; ha sido
ella fuente de rebeldía en las gestas
independentistas del pueblo cubano, en las que
se destaca la figura legendaria del general
Antonio Maceo. En su suelo descansan para
siempre el Héroe Nacional José Martí, el Padre
de la Patria Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, la
Madre de la Patria Mariana Grajales, Perucho
Figueredo, autor del Himno Nacional, y Vilma
Espín, todos ejemplos imperecederos de
diferentes generaciones.
Esta ciudad exhibe diferentes títulos honoríficos,
resultantes de la participación de sus hijos en
acontecimientos trascendentales a lo largo de su
hermosa historia: la distinción "Muy noble y muy
leal", conferida el 14 de febrero de 1712 por los
reyes de España. En mayo de 1822 la
nombraron "Hospitalaria de las Américas" y
recibió el galardón de "Fiel Ciudad" en marzo de
1874, entregado por la corona española. En
Madrid en 1955, le fue otorgado el Título de
Municipio Benemérito de las Américas. El 26 de
septiembre de 1983 el Consejo de Estado
aprueba otorgar a Santiago de Cuba el Título
Honorífico de Ciudad Héroe de la República de
Cuba y la Orden Antonio Maceo. Además le fue
otorgado el galardón Manzana de Oro, la FIJET,
como merecido homenaje a la calidad y
condiciones excepcionales del destino turístico.
Tenemos la responsabilidad de hacer gala de los
títulos que ostenta la ciudad, y de su historia, y
aportar todos, desde cada lugar donde nos
encontremos, al empeño de hacer de Santiago
de Cuba una ciudad bella, limpia, ordenada y
disciplinada, una ciudad donde el visitante, no
importa el lugar o país de donde provengan,
sienta la necesidad de regresar, sienta el
compromiso de aportar para su desarrollo
paulatino, sienta el orgullo de haber pisado ese
suelo sagrado.
The legendary and authentic Santiago
de Cuba turns 500 years founded on
July 25, 2015, an event that brings us
together, now, to multiply our actions in
all spheres of society. This is more than
enough for the children of this
indomitable people surrender a fitting
tribute to this great event reason.
Santiago de Cuba is well known as the
City of History, for the decisive
contribution of its brave men and
women to the historical events of the
Cuban nation; it has been a source of
rebellion in the independence
struggles of the Cuban people, in
which the legendary figure of general
Antonio Maceo stands. In his soil rest
forever leading figures like the National
Hero José Martí, the Founding Father
Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the
Mother of the Nation Mariana Grajales,
Perucho Figueredo, author of the
national anthem, and Vilma Espín, all
of them everlasting examples of all
different generations.
This city has various honorary titles,
resulting from the participation of its
population in significant events along
its beautiful history. The "Very Noble
and Loyal" Distinction, conferred on
February 14th, 1712 by the kings of
Spain. It was named "Hospitable of the
Americas" on May 1822. "Loyal City"
Award on March 1874, awarded by the
Spanish Crown. Title of Distinguished
Municipality of Americas awarded in
Madrid, 1955. On September 26th,
1983, the Council of Cuban State
approves grant to Santiago de Cuba
the Honorary Title of Hero City of the
Republic of Cuba and the Antonio
Maceo Order. The Golden Apple
Award was awarded by the FIJET as
tribute to the quality and exceptional
condition of the tourist destination.
We have a responsibility to show off
the titles given to the city and its history,
and provide everyone from every place
where we are, the efforts of Santiago
de Cuba to make a beautiful, clean,
tidy and orderly city, a city where the
visitor, no matter the place or country
they come from, feel the need to return,
feel the commitment to contribute to its
gradual development, feel proud to
have walked this sacred ground.
We call on all to join us in celebrating
our 500th anniversary: businessmen,
intellectuals, workers, peasants,
students, government workers and
new forms of non-state management,
cooperatives, religious, members of
fraternal associations, NGOs. We are
confident and proud that in its 500
years of existence, Santiago de Cuba
will receive input from all over the
country and from other countries.
