Around Our School - Computer Technology
The first quarter has quickly come and gone in Computer Technology! During the first quarter, students had the opportunity to
do some basic coding using Blockly to navigate mazes and draw various shapes. Students will also be given more opportunities
to enhance their coding skills by using resources at code.org and Khan Academy.
The seventh and eighth graders are currently creating a documentary about an influential person who inspires them by using
iMovie. Students began by creating a storyboard using Google Slides. The students will use Soundtrap to create a voiceover.
Soundtrap can be used on their Chromebooks, home computers, tablets, or smart phones. Then, the students will organize images about their influential person and record their voiceover using iMovie. Finally, the students will use iMovie or WeVideo to put
together the documentary including pictures, music, and transitions. Sixth graders will also use Soundtrap to create a podcast.
The second project for this quarter will be creating a dream home or dream room using Google Sketchup. Seventh and eighth
graders will create a dream home, including figuring out a budget. Sixth graders will create a dream room. Students will decorate
and furnish their dream home (or room).
Other topics covered so far include lessons from each technology strand from the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (Creativity and Innovation, Communication and Collaboration, Research and Information Literacy, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Digital Citizenship, and Technology Operations and Concepts).
