DAILY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Parishioners have been assigned every hour as a
worshipper to Jesus in the Eucharist.
All are welcome! The Eucharistic Adoration takes
place in the Our Lady of Divine Vocations Chapel.
BAPTISM (in English):
Parents wishing to have their child baptized are asked to make
an appointment with the Parish Secretary. Please bring the
child’s birth certificate. Baptisms in English are on
Saturdays at 11:00 AM.
CONFESSIONS:
Confessions are heard before each of the Masses on Sunday:
9:00 to 9:25 AM, 10:30 to 10:55 AM (in Spanish),
and 12:00 noon to 12:25 PM, or by appointment in the
rectory.
MARRIAGE:
Please make arrangements with a priest at least six months
before the wedding date. Log on to www.pre-cana.org for
diocesan guidelines on marriage preparation.

Drive out demons and heal, too
St. Thomas More
Called a
“man for all
seasons,”
Thomas was a
scholar, lawyer,
gentleman,
father, and
chancellor of
England. He
was grounded in classics and
religion before entering Oxford
to study law. King Henry VIII
appointed him Lord Chancellor
but Thomas resigned three years
later when Henry defied the
pope. Thomas then spent the rest
of his life defending the Catholic
Church. In 1534, Thomas’ refusal
to recognize the King as the
Head of the Church of England
cost him his life.
Holy sinners
It is said that as St. Francis of
Assisi lay dying, he claimed to
be the greatest of sinners. The
holier we become, the more
aware we are of our sinfulness.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is
true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is
gracious, if there is any excellence
and if there is
anything worthy
of praise, think
about these
things”
(Philippians 4:8)

Jesus demonstrated his power
through signs to prove the truth of
his words. He also said that certain
signs will accompany his true
followers (Mark 16:17-18). As
members of the
Church, we, too, can:
Drive out demons:
Jesus called Satan,
“the father of
lies” (John 8:44). Satan
spreads deceit and
despair throughout
the world. The truth
of the Gospel
overpowers Satan’s
lies. Whenever we
bear witness to the
Gospel, we help to
drive out demonic forces.
Speak new languages: The
Gospel truth never changes but
making sure it is heard may mean
changing methods to suit the time,
culture, and place. Sometimes this
entails learning new vocabulary or
ways of communicating, such as
social media, to reach more people
with God’s message of love and
hope.
Pick up serpents. Nothing is
more poisonous to our relationship
with God than
yielding to
temptation.
Temptation, depicted
by a serpent, was
Satan’s weapon
against our first
parents. When we use
the Church’s tools,
including the Gospel
and the Sacraments,
we can safely handle
the poisonous serpent
of temptation.
Heal the ill. Physical illness can
be devastating, but so is the great
spiritual sickness, ignorance of God.
We don’t all have the gift of physical
healing but when we proclaim the
Gospel, we can bring healing to
those who don’t know God.
Why do we adore God?
“Adoration exalts
the greatness of the
Lord who made
us.” (Catechism of
the Catholic Church
(CCC), #2628). Pope
Emeritus Benedict
XVI said: “It is only
by adoring and
loving God above all
things that human
beings can totally fulfill
themselves.” Adoration of
God makes sense because
of who he is.
When we adore God,
we acknowledge that we
owe our existence to him.
He is the purpose of our
existence and joining him
in Heaven for eternity is
our ultimate goal.

Descubriendo esperanza y gozo en la fe católica.
Expulsar a los demonios y también sanar
Santo Tomás Moro
Llamado un
“hombre para
la eternidad”,
Tomás fue
académico,
abogado,
caballero, padre
y canciller de
Inglaterra. Obtuvo una sólida
formación en lenguas clásicas
y en religion antes de ingresar
en Oxford para estudiar leyes.
El rey Enrique VIII lo nombró
Lord Canciller, pero Tomás
renunció tres años más tarde
cuando Enrique se enfrentó al
papa. Tomás pasó el resto de
su vida defendiendo a la
Iglesia católica. Su negativa a
reconocer al rey como cabeza
de la Iglesia de Inglaterra le
costó la vida en 1534.
Pecadores santoso
Se dice que cuando
agonizaba san Francisco de
Asís dijo que él era el mayor
de los pecadores. Cuanto más
santos seamos, más
conscientes somos de
nuestros pecados.
“En fin, mis hermanos, todo lo
que es verdadero y noble, todo lo
que es justo y puro, todo lo que
es amable y digno de honra, todo
lo que haya de
virtuoso y
merecedor de
alabanza, debe ser
el objeto de sus
pensamientos”
(Filipenses 4:8)

Jesús demostró su poder mediante
señales para demostrar la verdad de
sus palabras. También dijo que ciertas
señ ales acompañarían a sus
seguidores auténticos (Marcos 16:1718). Como miembros de
la Iglesia nosotros
también podemos:
Expulsar demonios.
Jesús llamó a Satanás
“padre de la
mentira” (Juan 8:44).
Satanás difunde el
engaño y la
desesperación en el
mundo. La verdad del
Evangelio supera a las
mentiras de Satanás.
Cuando damos
testimonio del Evangelio, ayudamos a
expulsar a las fuerzas diabólicas.
Hablar nuevas lenguas. La verdad
del Evangelio no cambia nunca, pero
para cerciorarnos de que se la escucha
quizá haya que usar mé todos más
adecuados a los tiempos, la cultura y el
lugar. A veces eso implica el
aprendizaje de vocabulario nuevo o de
nuevos modos de comunicación, como
los medios de comunicación social,
para hacer llegar a la gente el mensaje
de amor y de esperanza de Dios.
Retirar serpientes y beber veneno.
No hay nada más
venenoso para nuestra
relación con Dios que
ceder a la tentación. La
tentación, representada
por una serpiente, era el
arma de Satanás contra
nuestros primeros
padres. Cuando usamos
las herramientas de la
Iglesia, Evangelio y
Sacramentos incluidos,
podemos manejar sin
riesgos la venenosa
serpiente de la tentación.
Sanar a los enfermos. La
enfermedad física puede ser
devastadora, pero igualmente lo es la
enfermedad espiritual, ignorar a Dios.
No todos tenemos el don de curar
físicamente, pero cuando proclamamos
el Evangelio podemos proporcionar
alivio a los que no conocen a Dios.
La gente buena
también murmura
“La adoración
exalta la grandeza del
Señor que nos ha
hecho (Catecismo de la
Iglesia Católica, #2628).
El papa emérito
Benedicto XVI dijo:
“Los seres humanos se
realizan por completo
sólo cuando adoran y
aman a Dios sobre
todas las cosas”. La
adoración a Dios tiene
sentido por lo que él es.
Cuando adoramos a Dios
reconocemos que le
debemos la existencia. Él
es la razón de nuestra
existencia y unirnos a él
en el cielo para toda la
eternidad es nuestra meta
final.
