A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
I hope you get to enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving this week with those in your family or
who make a difference in your life.
I am grateful for: Fr. Ruben’s daily loving presence; wonderful young people in our parish,
parents who support their children; parishioners who support the parish; people who work
together; chocolate; apple pie; our Pope; our
staff; forgiveness; mercy; compassion; mental
health; St. Vincent de Paul Society, KC’s and
Monday night dinners helping those in need;
going to a Cubs playoff game; kids who laugh
and play; people who welcome people they
do not know; people who open the door; a
glimmer of peace; HD TV; chicken noodle
soup; Milky Ways; turkey with stuffing; a day
off; police officers; first responders; family;
people who make me laugh or let me cry; the
Stanley Cup season; the mission trip, kids who
come up with Noah’s buddies envelopes; computers that work; people who do not judge, but
listen; the priests who mentor me; good
friends; movies; videos that make me think;
hugs; a clean room; sleep, birth of children
this year; and moments of joy!
This is just a starter of what I am grateful for.
The attitude of gratitude is a key manifestation of faith in God, since all we have are gifts
from God. Enjoy!

Help Decorate Our Church
Decoration of our church and narthex for the Advent
season will begin after the 5 PM Mass tonight,
November 22. If you are able to help, even for a short
time, please meet on the west side of the narthex (by
the Room of Remembrance) at 6 PM. Many hands make
light work—it’s a great way to begin the Advent season!
Help is also needed to set up our two
new outdoor wood Nativity displays. If you
can help with this, please meet in the
church narthex on Saturday, December 5,
at 10 AM. We will then move out to the
garage to retrieve the pieces of the sets
and bring them to the display sites.
Rosaries Offered to Those Who Are Ill
Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with a
serious illness such as cancer? Michelle Anelli, a parish
member and cancer survivor likes to give patients comfort by giving them rosaries that she makes. They are
made from a variety of beads--crystal, glass, or wood-and often have a St. Agatha or St. Peregrine medallion.
She currently distributes them to patients at area cancer treatments centers.. She would like to expand to
offering a rosary to anyone else who is currently struggling with a serious illness. If you would like to receive a
rosary from Michelle (there is no cost), please contact
her at 815-355-8500 or [email protected].
Seeking Information Center Volunteers
Do you regularly attend the 5 PM Mass on either
Saturday or Sunday? Our Information Center Ministry is
currently in need of volunteers to staff the Center,
especially for these two Masses. No special skills are
required and training is provided. The time commitment
is very minimal—one evening Mass per month for about
15 to 20 minutes before and after Mass. If you are
interested in sharing your time and talent in this way,
please contact Peggy MacGregor at 815-728-0860 or
[email protected].
Suicide Support Group
The holidays and holy days that come at the end of each
year can be days filled with joy or days filled with pain.
They can be times of happy family traditions and memories of days past. Or, they can be times trying to cope
with the new realities of guilt, pain and questions. If you
or a loved one has thought of suicide, attempted suicide, or completed suicide, come to share your holiday
plans, past and present. Geri Condon, a licensed professional counselor, will facilitate our discussion and offer
suggestions on how to celebrate the holidays. We will
meet on Wednesday, December 2, at 7 PM in Ss.
Ambrose and Catherine rooms.

Couples Invited to “Spirit of Marriage”
Give your spouse something special this Christmas
season...your time. Join us for this month’s “Spirit of
Marriage” on Wednesday, December 2, to learn how to
“make your relationship a priority.” This free, one hour is
an opportunity to focus on your spouse away from daily
distractions. One recent participant shared “we always
have something new to talk about after coming to this”.
Join us on the first Wednesday of each month in the
Room of Remembrance—we’d love to see you there!
This month we will begin with holiday refreshments at
7:15 PM. Please consider adding this evening to your
Christmas list!
Everyday Meals Are a Struggle for Some
Holidays bring much joy with family get-togethers and
delicious traditional feasts. However not all of our neighbors can afford food for their
daily meals, let alone
traditional holiday meals. The
St. Vincent de Paul Society
reached out to a mixedgenerational family who were
struggling to make ends meet
after their son and granddaughters moved in with them.
SVdPS was able to provide several bags of food for daily
meals and refer them to the Knights of Columbus
Thanksgiving dinner program so that they could have a
holiday meal. Thank you for your generous support of
SVdPS and the Knights of Columbus holiday meal
program. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed,
for he shares his bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9

playing using iPads. (Other tablets cannot be used.) Call
Terri Vrasich at 815-385-5673 if you can help.

of the Holy Eucharist. What a wonderful opportunity we
have to thank Him for this great Gift, especially in this
month when we focus on giving thanks. Take a little time

All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel. and thank Him
and be refreshed. Pray, listen, and feel
the peace that He gives us so lovingly.

November 26, we invite you to attend a bilingual Mass at
9 AM, when our community will come together for an
hour to give thanks for all the gifts that God has given us,
by celebrating the Eucharist as one Catholic community.
We also invite you to bring the bread and wine for your
Thanksgiving meal to be blessed during Mass, as well as
non-perishable food items to donate to the St. Vincent
de Paul Society to distribute to our less fortunate neighbors.

Viva Cristo Rey
este mundo. Si mi Reino fuese de este mundo mi gente habría combatido para que no fuese entregado a los judíos;
soy Rey.
Oración a Cristo Rey.
Amen.

Vocations Corner: God’s Plan from the Start
My first niece was born recently, and she weighed a
whopping 2 lbs. and 14 oz. Never in my life have I ever
seen a living, breathing human being who is that tiny. As I
gazed upon her, I was amazed to think about how even
though she only weighs 2 pounds 14 ounces, and is 100%
dependent upon others for her wellbeing, that God already
has a plan for her life in mind.
Whether we realize it or not, each of us at one point
weighed less than 3 pounds! And even at that time God
had a plan in mind for your life. We know this because God
said to the Prophet Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you, before you were born I consecrated
you.” I think that this is awesome, because it give me purpose and direction in my life. It means that I’m not alone
and that I’m not just wandering aimlessly. I’d like for you to
think right now about all of the ways that God has impacted and guided your life from the point that you weighed 2
pounds, 14 oz. right up until today. Keeping that in mind,
why would we hesitate for a moment to believe that He is
going to continue to provide for us and to lead us as we
continue forward? Let us continue to place our trust in Him
as we grow stronger in our Faith.
