Financial Aid New Year’s Resolutions
 Obtain a Federal Student Aid Personal Identification number for use throughout the federal
aid process from the U.S. Department of Education’s PIN Web site at www.pin.ed.gov. Both the student
and parent must request a pin number
 File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible on or after
January 1, 2013. You may file the FAFSA electronically using FAFSA on the Web, which contains
built-in edits to help prevent costly mistakes, at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Paper copies may be obtained by
calling 1-800-433-3243, but electronic filing is the preferred method.
 Attend the Regional Financial Aid Seminar on January 3, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. to be held
at Shenandoah University in the Harry Byrd School of Business (located across from Sheetz on the
corner of Millwood and Pleasant Valley). All students and parents in need of financial assistance
for college are encouraged to attend, regardless of where the students plan to attend college.
 Attend the JHHS Financial Aid Workshop on January 17, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. to be held
at John Handley High School in the Main Cafeteria All JHHS students and parents in need of
financial assistance for college are encouraged to attend.
 If you need help completing the FAFSA, attend SUPER SATURDAY to be held at Lord Fairfax
Community College on Saturday, February 9th from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. Please bring your FAFSA
Pin numbers, Driver’s License, Social Security number, and your 2012 tax information if
available. If you do not have your 2012 information available, bring your 2011 information to
estimate. Financial aid staff will be available to help you complete and submit this important
document. Contact the LFCC Financial Aid Office at 540-868-7130 with questions.
 Fill out John Handley High School’s Local Scholarship Application. Paper copies are available
in the Guidance Office or you may print it from the Handley Website (click on Guidance tab).
Applications are due NO LATER than March 1, 2013 by 3:30 p.m. This is a firm deadline. LATE
APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Parent/guardian and student signature
required.
 Planning to attend Lord Fairfax Community College? Submit your LFCC application for
admission and then complete the online LFCC Scholarship Application during January 2013
(www.lfcc.edu/scholarships). Request that the JHHS Guidance Office send your transcript to the financial
aid office at LFCC (use the blue transcript request form).

 Contact the Financial Aid offices of the colleges to which you are applying to look into their
scholarship opportunities.

colegio comunitario Lord Fairfax el sábado, 9 de febrero de 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. Favor de traer sus
números PIN de la FAFSA, licencia de conducir, número de seguro social y su información de
impuestos del 2011 si sea disponible. Personal de ayuda financiera estará disponible para ayudarle a
completar y entregar este documento importante. Comuníquese con la oficina de ayuda financiera en
