BIENVENIDA DEL RECTOR
Bienvenidos y bienvenidas a Valencia, una ciudad cosmopolita resultado de un cruce de culturas forjado a lo largo de los siglos.
Desde 1499, la Universitat de València ha desarrollado su actividad de docencia e investigación, contribuyendo al desarrollo de la ciudad, formando parte de su trama urbana, en la que
se insertan los tres campus universitarios (Tarongers, Blasco Ibáñez y Burjassot-Paterna) en
los que la Universitat imparte formación y genera investigación en todas las áreas de conocimiento y a los que se suma nuestro edificio histórico, “La Nau”, ubicado en el centro de Valencia, al igual que el bicentenario Jardín Botánico de la Universitat y el Colegio Mayor Rector
Peset, un ejemplo de recuperación del patrimonio arquitectónico valenciano: construido en el
barrio del Carmen a partir de un antiguo palacio.
Ciencias básicas y experimentales, ingenierías, ciencias de la salud, ciencias de la educación,
humanidades y ciencias sociales económicas y jurídicas se combinan en la experiencia académica que es la Universitat.
Quiero darte la bienvenida a la Universitat de València y
agradecerte que te hayas unido a los miles de estudiantes
internacionales que hacen de la Universitat de València la
segunda universidad de Europa en recepción de estudiantes Erasmus y un referente internacional.
Con la mayor oferta de estudios de grado, máster y doctorado de la Comunidad Valenciana y una de las mayores de
España, y con unos resultados destacados de liderazgo en
producción científica y actividad investigadora, la Universitat ha obtenido un doble reconocimiento como Campus
de Excelencia Internacional por parte del Ministerio de
Educación del Gobierno de España.
Ahora ya formas parte de la Universitat de València, una
moderna universidad, dinámica, que desarrolla un impor-
tante volumen de actividad cultural y de difusión científica pero que también es una comunidad de valores compartidos y de compromiso con nuestra sociedad.
Te invito a que conozcas mejor Valencia y todas las posibilidades que la Universitat de València pone a tu alcance.

HISTORIA
A principios del siglo XV, los Jurados de la
ciudad de Valencia reunieron los estudios
dependientes de la ciudad y de la iglesia
para fundar, el 30 de abril de 1499, la Universitat de València, con unas Constituciones propias redactadas a instancia del Consejo de la ciudad de Valencia.
El Papa Alejandro VI firmó, en 1501, la bula
pontificia que, junto con el privilegio real
de Fernando I, sellado en 1502, llevaron a
la inauguración oficial del Estudio General
de Valencia, equiparado en prerrogativas y
distinciones a las universidades de Roma,
Bolonia, Salamanca y Lleida, el 13 de octubre de 1502.
A los estudios iniciales de medicina, humanidades, teología y leyes se fueron sumando, con el tiempo, nuevas titulaciones e
instalaciones hasta configurar nuestra universidad actual: una universidad moderna,
europea, abierta prácticamente a todas las
ramas del saber en humanidades, ciencias
básicas y técnicas, ciencias de la salud y de
la educación así como en ciencias sociales,
jurídicas y económicas.

A estos estudios se suma una importante
apuesta por la investigación y la transmisión de los resultados de la investigación y
los conocimientos científicos, el compromiso con el desarrollo de nuestra sociedad y el
fomento de la cultura y el deporte.
LA UNIVERSITAT HOY
La Universitat de València es hoy una universidad europea, pública, generalista y
orientada a la investigación.
Se ubica en el área de Valencia, la tercera
ciudad española en importancia y en términos de población. Sus principales cifras son

Además de estos campus, la Universitat dispone de otros edificios
en la ciudad de Valencia como la sede histórica de la Universitat,
conocida como La Nau, ya que se encuentra junto a la calle que se
llama así, y que actualmente es un centro cultural, el Jardín Botánico, situado en el centro de Valencia, en la calle Quart, n° 80, y el
Palau de Cerveró que alberga el Museo de Historia de la Ciencia, en
pleno centro histórico de Valencia.
Junto a estas instalaciones, la Universitat de València desarrolla su
actividad en las ciudades valencianas de Ontinyent, a través de una
Extensión Universitaria, y de Gandía, mediante el Centro Internacional de Gandía.

HISTORIA
La ciudad de Valencia fue fundada en el
año 138 a.C. siendo Cónsul de Roma Décimo Junio Bruto Galaico. Desde entonces,
nuestra ciudad ha sido un cruce de culturas.
Fue una capital musulmana durante cinco
siglos, desde el año 711 hasta la conquista
por parte del Rey Jaume I, que creó el antiguo Reino de Valencia.
La ciudad de València
Fue un importante puerto comercial en el
siglo XV, una gran ciudad manufacturera
de seda y de otras industrias, como la azulejera, en el siglo XVIII, gran exportadora
en los siglos XIX y XX, y destino turístico a
partir de la segunda mitad del siglo pasado.
Como consecuencia de su constante evolución y dinamismo, de su intensa vida cul-

tural y de su mezcla de culturas, a lo largo
de la ciudad se puede ver la evolución de la
misma. Se puede contemplar una Valencia
romana, árabe, gótica, renacentista, barroca, modernista y racionalista, junto a una
Valencia en continuo crecimiento y expansión, acogedora e integradora, que reúne las
más novedosas tendencias mundiales.
VALENCIA HOY
Valencia es la capital de la Comunidad Valenciana.
Hoy en día, Valencia es la tercera ciudad
de España, tanto en importancia como en
población (800.000 habitantes). Esta cifra se
duplica si se considera su área metropolitana, lo que significa que la ciudad de Valencia, por sí sola, supone el 16% de la población de la Comunidad Valenciana.
La localización de la ciudad permite disfrutar de uno de los climas más benignos
de Europa: clima mediterráneo, suave, con
una temperatura media que oscila entre 11º
y 26º. Su entorno natural, su atractivo cultural y sus playas de fina arena la han convertido en un centro turístico internacional.
La ciudad de Valencia es hoy, fundamentalmente, un área de servicios que se extiende
más allá de los límites de su término municipal, centrada principalmente en actividades
de demanda final, de comercio minorista y
mayorista, de servicios especializados a empresas y de actividades profesionales, que
suponen el 74% del empleo local, a los que
se une una base industrial importante en los

sectores de papel y artes gráficas, madera y
mueble, productos metálicos, calzado, confección y fabricación de automóviles.
Valencia cuenta con importantes instituciones culturales y un rico patrimonio histórico-artístico como la Lonja -monumento
declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad-,
las Torres de Serranos y de Quart, la Catedral y la Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados, situados en la Plaza de la Virgen
donde se encuentra también el Palacio de la
Generalidad Valenciana, sede del Gobierno
Regional.

CÓMO LLEGAR
Situada en la costa este española, la ciudad de Valencia
se encuentra a orillas del mar
Mediterráneo, a unos 350 km
de distancia de las ciudades de
Madrid y de Barcelona.
Valencia posee buenas comunicaciones por avión, barco, tren
y carretera.

metro a la ciudad de Valencia.

AREA DE BURJASSOT-PATERNA
En estos dos municipios se encuentra el Campus de BurjassotPaterna de la Universitat de València.
Burjassot cuenta con cerca de 40.000 habitantes y sus orígenes se
remontan a la época musulmana.
Paterna cuenta con más de 60.000 habitantes y en su municipio existen diversos polígonos industriales, el Parque Tecnológico y el Parc
Científic de la Universitat de València.
A solo 7 kilómetros, la convierten en un área bien conectada a través
de las líneas 1 y 4 de MetroValencia y las líneas de autobuses de la
Empresa Municipal de Transportes, EMT, y del Consorcio Municipal de Transportes, CMT.

EN VALENCIA:
OBTENCIÓN DE
LA TARJETA DE
ESTUDIANTE
Si no eres ciudadano de la Unión Europea
y tu estancia de estudios va a ser superior
a seis meses, debes obtener la tarjeta de estudiante.
La Universitat de Valencia, a través del Servicio de Relaciones Internacionales, ofrece
el servicio de gestión de la tarjeta de estudiante. Si prefieres solicitar tú mismo esta
tarjeta, una vez llegues a Valencia debes
presentarte en la Comisaría de Policía.
La tarjeta de extranjero debes obtenerla
en el plazo de un mes desde tu entrada en
España. La documentación que se necesita
para solicitar esta tarjeta, independientemente de si tú realizas la gestión o la Universitat de València la realiza por ti, es la
siguiente:

•Pasaporte o documento válido para la entrada en España, en vigor, o en su caso, cédula de inscripción en vigor. Sello de entrada en España o, en su defecto, presentar

ALOJAMIENTO
Valencia es una ciudad con varias
universidades donde viven algunos miles de estudiantes. Los estudiantes deben buscar por su cuenta el alojamiento más adecuado
para su estancia de estudios. Aunque la UV no ofrece un servicio de
gestión del alojamiento, sí dispone
de unas opciones propias:

Los estudiantes valencianos
suelen compartir un apartamento entre varios.
En España, los alquileres se
realizan por mes completo y se
paga al principio de cada mes.
También se suele pedir una
fianza por el alquiler del apartamento. Hay diversas agencias
inmobiliarias y empresas de
servicios a estudiantes que ofrecen apartamentos en alquiler. El

Si eres ciudadano de la Unión
Europea, antes de partir debes
solicitar la tarjeta sanitaria de la
Unión Europea. Si no eres ciudadano de la Unión Europea,
antes de viajar a España deberás
actualizar la información sobre
asistencia sanitaria, documentando el motivo y las condiciones de la estancia, así como que
dispones de medios adecuados
de subsistencia.

SANITARIA
El Servicio de Relaciones Internacionales de la UV exige a los
estudiantes no ciudadanos de la
Unión Europea, y que vienen a
través de un Programa Internacional, que contraten un seguro
médico internacional. Este seguro debe cubrir, como mínimo:
•Asistencia médica y sanitaria
tanto por accidente como por
enfermedad
•Repatriación o transporte sanitario de heridos o enfermos
•Repatriación o transporte en
caso de defunción
Vivir en València
Si eres menor de 28 años, en la
matrícula del curso académico
se incluye un seguro escolar que
cubre los accidentes producidos
dentro de la Universidad. Para
la atención primaria debes acudir a tu seguro médico.
Por otra parte, los Gabinetes
de Salud de la UV ofrecen un
servicio de atención a los estudiantes:

en caso de enfermedad o defunción
•Responsabilidad civil
Deberás acreditar que has contratado el seguro aportando:

Si has hecho una “extensión” de
una póliza preexistente, pide un
certificado que especifique la

Por su buen clima y su orografía,
Valencia es una ciudad perfecta
para desplazarse a pie o en bicicleta. Si usas la bicicleta, dispones
de una amplia red de CarrilBici,
pero recuerda que debes respetar
las normas de circulación.
Además, Valencia posee una amplia red de estaciones de Valenbisi.
Se trata de bicicletas que puedes
alquilar con una tarjeta de abono
en una estación, usarlas 30 minutos y devolverlas en otra estación.
Valencia también tiene una importante red de transporte pú-

Valencia es mucho más que su
ciudad. Su ubicación, junto a la
arena de la playa pero a escasos
kilómetros de las montañas interiores, permite disfrutar de un
entorno urbano y rural, de un
entorno de playa y de interior.
Para organizarte, debes tener en cuenta los horarios habituales de
clases que encontrarás en la web de la Facultad o Escuela en la que
curses estudios. Muchas titulaciones tienen horario de mañana o
de tarde, y otras de día entero algunos días de la semana. Por la
mañana suelen empezar a las 8 o 8:30 horas. Por la tarde, las clases
suelen empezar a las 15 o 15:30 horas y suelen finalizar antes de las
21:30 horas.

PROCEDIMIENTO PARA LA ADMISIÓN DE
ESTUDIANTES ERASMUS
La Delegación de Estudiantes,
a través del SEDI, organiza en
la segunda quincena de octubre de cada año una Semana de
Bienvenida a los estudiantes de
la Universitat. Se trata de una
semana completa de actividades muy diversas que se programan pensando en los nuevos
estudiantes: conciertos de música, competiciones deportivas,
debates, exposiciones, y otras.
Si deseas venir a estudiar a la Universitat de València como estudiante del programa Erasmus, el primer paso es asegurarte que
existe un acuerdo bilateral entre tu universidad de origen y la Universitat de València en la titulación que quieres cursar aquí. Si no es
así, no podrás venir en calidad de estudiante Erasmus.
Por lo tanto es esencial la existencia de un convenio bilateral entre
las dos universidades en la titulación que quieres estudiar en Valencia y que tu universidad nos comunique que te ha seleccionado
como estudiante Erasmus dentro de los plazos, que son: si tu estancia tiene lugar en el primer semestre o curso entero, hasta el 15 de
Junio, y si tu estancia se desarrolla en el segundo semestre, hasta

El curso académico está organizado en semestres, si bien alguna

La segunda convocatoria es una

HISTORY
At the beginning of the XV century, the Judges of Valencia brought together the courses
depending on the city and the church, leading to the establishment of the Universitat de
València on 30th April, 1499 with their own
Constitutions, created at the request of the
Council of the city of Valencia.
In 1501, the Pope Alejandro VI signed with
the royal privilege of Fernando II the pontifical pope’s bull, sealed a year later, leading
to the official opening of The Estudio General de Valencia in 1502 and was compared
in prerogatives and distinction to the uni-
versities of Rome, Bologna, Salamanca and
Lleida on 13th October, 1502.
Initially there were studies of medicine, humanities, technology and law, but new programmes and institutes were added and gave
form to the university we know today, a modern European university. It offers practically
all branches of knowledge in humanities,
basic and technical sciences, health sciences

HISTORY
The city of Valencia was founded in 138 B.C.
by the consul of Rome Decimus Junius Brutus Galaico. Since then, our city has been a
culture crossing. It was a Muslim capital for
five centuries from year 711 until the conquest of King James I, who established the
old Valencian Kingdom.

In these two municipalities, you can find the Burjassot-Paterna
Campus of the Universitat de València.
Burjassot has nearly 40,000 inhabitants and its origins date back to
the Muslim period.
Paterna has more than 60,000 inhabitants; in its municipality there
are several industrial parks, the “Parque Tecnológico” and the UV
“Parc Científic”.

Valencia´s good climate and
orography makes walking and
biking a perfect way to get
around. If you bike, there is an
extensive bike track (CarrilBici)
across the city, but remember to
follow the circulation rules.
Furthermore you have the possibility to use Valenbisi: bikes
which are placed all over Valencia. At the station of Valenbisi
you take a bike by using your
season ticket and return it at the
station of your destination without paying anything during the
first 30 minutes.
Valencia also has a vast network
of public transport comprising
buses, metro and tram or streetcar, which allow you to move
through the whole city.
The 55 EMT bus lines (red colour) allow you to get everywhere
in the city. Five metro lines connect other places of the city and
the metropolitan area. Through
lines 4 (Tarongers station and Vicent Andrés Estellés station), and
3 (Facultats station) you can go to
the campuses of Tarongers, Burjassot-Paterna and Blasco-Ibáñez
respectively (it takes half an hour,

Studying at the Universitat de València is much more than just going to class. The UV offers you a series
of services and facilities to improve your stay at university.
To organize yourself, you have to take into account the usual class schedules. You can find them on the
web pages of the faculty or school where you are enrolled. Many degrees have courses taking place in
the morning or afternoon; other courses take up a whole day during several days of the week. In the
morning, classes normally start at 8 or 8:30 am. In the afternoon classes normally begin at 3 or 3:30 pm

ADMISSION PROCESS FOR
ERASMUS STUDENTS
If you want to come to the UV with the Erasmus
Programme, the first step is to check if there is a
bilateral agreement between your home university and the University of Valencia in the field of
your degree. Otherwise, you cannot come as an
Erasmus Student.
Because of that, there has to be a bilateral agreement between both your home university and
the University of Valencia in the field you wish
to study here. Furthermore, your home university
has to inform us that you have been granted the
status of an Erasmus Student.

Our deadlines to receive nominations from universities are:
•Fall semester or full year (starting in September): June 15th.
•Spring semester (starting in February): November 15th.
After receiving your nomination, the International Relations Service will check if you can be accepted according to our bilateral agreement and
send you an e-mail with your password. Thus you
will be able to fill in the online application form
and upload the following documents:

Two or three weeks after the nomination deadline, the International
Relations Service will send you an
e-mail with information about the
Reception Day and other relevant
dates, requirements or activities.
The Reception Day will usually
take place on the week before the
semester starts.
For any doubt or problem coming up during your stay at UV
and which you are unable to solve
at the Faculty/School, we recommend you to go to the International Relations Service, whose
office is located at the following

At the beginning of the session,
you will be given your Certificate of Arrival, a temporary student card and a welcome pack.

The academic calendar is divided into semesters, although
some courses have an annual
calendar. The academic year
begins towards the second
week of September and the first
semester ends in December. At
the end of the semester, when
classes finish, students have two
weeks of exams in January.
The second semester starts by
the end of January or at the beginning of February until the
second or third week of May.
After this semester the exams
run until mid-June. From the
end of June to the second week

of July you can repeat the exams
of the first as well as of the second semester.
The resit (or second examination call) is a second chance to
take an exam (if you did not
take the first exam, if you failed
or if you want to improve your
mark). As an exchange student
you are entitled to go to the resit.

you will have to come back to
the UV to repeat an exam.

In addition to its vast programmes, lectures and debates,
the Universitat de València

complementary educational activities for other qualifications,

You can improve your Spanish
or learn other languages at the
UV Language Centre, situated on Blasco Ibañez Campus
where you have access to a wide
range of courses and activities.
Additionally, you can prepare
yourself to obtain the official

Foreign Language).
The language offer of the Universitat de València includes
the possibility to learn the Valencian language through the

A dial up and wireles network
(Wi-Fi) allows you to have access to the internet, to have an
e-mail address, a personal website and disk space. In addition,
the university has created a
“Aula Virtual” (Virtual Classroom) where students have
access to information about
their courses, to keep a steady
contact with professors and to
download the information and
documents provided by a lecturer through this means.
There is also a “Virtual Secretariat” service, where students
can look up information about
their academic records.
