CELEBRATE THE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH
In 2009, the US Congress thru
the House of Senate and House
of Representatives respectively
passed H. Res. 780 recognizing
October 2011 and every October thereafter as Filipino American History Month (FAHM) to
celebrate the history and culture
of Filipino Americans and their
historic contributions to the
Nation.
What a great honor
and recognition bestowed to the
Filipinos for their sacrifices especially during WWII and accomplishments!
The Philippine Consulate General in cooperation with the
Filipino American community
would like to invite everyone to
actively participate and support
the celebration of the Filipino
American History Month Celebration in Chicago and Suburban
Illinois. The schedule of activities
is in pages 2 to 3.
Let us take pride of our Filipino
heritage and history. Let us engage ourselves with this great
opportunity and challenge to
build a legacy of sharing and collaboration for the betterment of
our society. For a start, let us
come together and make every
October celebration - a meaningful and memorable month.
Now is the time to celebrate
together this momentous event
in our history.
In the spirit of “pagkakaisa” and
“bayanihan” and with shared
history, we, Filipino American
individuals, organizations, and
businesses, can have a common
vision for our community. The
Filipino American community
needs a cooperative effort among
the medical professionals, health
care groups, civic and community
organizations (regional/religious/
professionals / media groups) by
sharing their talents and areas of
expertise. As a start, we enjoin
you to support any of the FAHM
activities and participate in any
future community initiatives
.

info to your family and friends.

In a proclamation dated July 19,
2012,
“ P a t
Quinn,
Governor of
t h e
State of
Illinois do hereby proclaim October 2012 as FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH in
Illinois in recognition of the contributions of Filipino Americans
made in our state and to our
nation as a whole and in celebration of all Filipinos who call Illinois home”. Here are few excerpts from Quinn’s proclamation—”The Filipino American
community is the second largest
in Asian American group in the
United States with a population
estimated to be close to four
m i l l i o n
s t r o n g ” .
“Filipino American servicemen
and servicewomen have longstanding service to the United
States Armed Forces including
approximately 250.000 who
fought under the Unites States
flag during Wold War II”.
“The celebration of Filipino
American History Month in October provides an opportunity to
celebrate the heritage and culture of Filipino Americans and
their immense contributions to
our country and presents a time
to renew efforts toward the
examination of history and cul-
ture in order to provide an opportunity for all people in the
United States to learn more
about Filipino Americans and
their historic contributions to
the growth and development of
the United States”.
Like in previous years, Chicago
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Skokie
Mayor George Van Dusen are
expected to join in proclaiming
October 2012 as FILIPINO
AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH
in Chicago and Skokie. New this
year, Mayor Roger Claar of Bolingbrook, Mayor Jim Holland of
Frankfort and Mayor Ed Zabrocki of Tinley Park are all expected to join the proclamation
to celebrate FAHM in their respective villages. This is GREAT.
Let’s CELEBRATE FAHM.
