Aberdeen: the energy capital of Europe
Aberdeen, also known as The Silver City, due to the
sparkling granite stone used to build it, is a cosmopolitan
and vibrant city located on the north-east coast of Scotland.
The perfect student city
Accessible and well connected
University education has been available
in the city for over 500 years, with 30,000
students currently calling Aberdeen home.
The city is perfectly set up for student life,
offering a huge variety of shops, restaurants,
cafés, bars, cinemas, comedy and music
venues, sporting facilities and theatres.
As a major global city with a vast business
community, Aberdeen has an extensive
transport network and boasts an
international airport just five miles from
the city centre. The airport offers flights
to numerous destinations including major
transit hubs; Amsterdam, Frankfurt,
London and Paris.
As one of the UK’s most affluent and
economically stable cities, Aberdeen has
a high quality of life and is the ideal place
to live life to the full and gain the ultimate
student experience.
The city is also very well connected, with
regular rail and bus links that allow you
to easily explore Scotland and the rest
of the UK.
Explore and get active
Thriving and inspiring
Aberdeen is surrounded by miles of beautiful
coastline and has many enchanting Scottish
castles to explore (including Balmoral Castle
— Scottish residence of the Queen). The city
is also a short distance from some of the
most spectacular mountain ranges in the
world, as well as Cairngorm National Park —
the largest National Park in Britain.
The energy industry is of huge value to
the Aberdeen region, currently providing
employment for over 200,000 people in
Scotland. Aberdeen is a global centre of
excellence for the research, development
and sustainability of the industry — this
is why many multinational oil and gas
companies, such as BP, Shell and
Total, choose to have their European
headquarters based within the city.
The city boasts its own Scottish Premier
League football team, Aberdeen Football
Club, who are former European champions.
You can also play and watch numerous
other sports in the city and surrounding
area, including athletics, cricket, golf, rugby,
swimming, tennis and adrenalin fuelled
snow sports. When you’re not studying,
there’s so much to do in your spare time!
As a student in Aberdeen, the presence of
this influential global industry will offer you
many benefits. The University’s links with

places of worship within the city,
including churches and mosques,
and you will also find restaurants and
supermarkets offering food from across
the globe, providing a taste of home
no matter where you come from.
