Somos un grupo de diseño interdisciplinario enfocado a producir conceptos integrales de diseño ambiental, conectando Arquitectura de Paisaje,
Arquitectura y Diseño Urbano en un contexto espacial, estético y social.
Nuestra filosofía está fundamentada en el diseño ambiental ya sea rural o urbano que debe ser transformado a través de un proceso creativo, en
balance con la naturaleza y observando cuidadosamente la cultura local, el clima y el entorno; involucrando la participación del cliente o del usuario
final
Los proyectos son elaborados de una manera multidisciplinaria basados, dependiendo de las características, en la asesoría de especialistas en arte,
ciencias sociales, medio ambiente, economía, finanzas, ecología, ecología, ingeniería civil y de sistemas.
Nuestra meta es alcanzar soluciones creativas y contemporáneas a problemas de diseño cotidianos, ya sean nuevos o viejos. Estas soluciones
deben de ser realizables, eficientes y estéticas en conjunto con la conservación y el mejoramiento del medio ambiente.
PHILOSOPHY
As an interdisciplinary design group, GDU is geared to produce integrated concepts of environmental design, connecting landscape architecture,
architecture and urban design in a spatial, aesthetic and social context.
Our philosophy is based on the conviction that urban and rural design must be transformed by a creative process, in balance with nature, and carefully
looking to the local culture, climate and surroundings; involving the participation of the client or the user.
Projects are set up in an interdisciplinary way, depending on their characteristics, with specialists in art, social sciences, economics, environment,
finances, ecology, civil and system engineering participating in the project.
Our goal is to achieve imaginative and contemporary solutions to old , new or every day design problems. These solutions have to be feasible,
efficient, and aesthetic, with conservation and improvement of the environment.

REHABILITACIÓN DEL BOSQUE DE
CHAPULTEPEC
SEGUNDA SECCIÓN
ETAPA: MOVILIDAD
Esta intervención tiene lugar en la Segunda
Sección del Bosque de Chapultepec, la cual
aloja obras de infraestructura de alto valor para
la ciudad. Como punto de partida, el primer eje
a desarrollar es la movilidad, rediseñando la
vialidad al interior y ordenando la forma de
desplazarse, cambiando la imagen urbana,
haciéndola más digna, amable y clara para el
visitante.

The second section at Chapultepec Park is
very important because it contained more
infrastructure of great value for the city. The
interventions in this Section are redesigning the
internal roads and ordering the way to move,
changing it’s image, making it more dignified,
friendly and clear to the visitor.

El Plan Maestro IMMSA San Luis, es un
desarrollos urbano contemporáneo ubicado
dentro del tejido urbano existente, que engloba
un Plan maestro con una excelente
infraestructura y comunicaciones, para reciclar
y recuperar grandes trozos de tierra de
antiguas industrias que han cerrado su ciclo
productivo, a través de un proceso de
corrección y limpieza de suelos, estructuras,
cimientos y artefactos, por medio de un
proceso de evaluación y selección para la
conservación de edificios, paisajes y
estructuras para ser reinsertado en el contexto
de la nueva ciudad.

The San Luis IMMSA Master Plan is framed
within a contemporary global movement of
planned urban developments that gear to recycle
large pieces of land of old industries who have
closed their productive cycle; located within the
existing urban tissue and with excellent
infrastructure and communications.
Through a careful and conscientious remediation
process for cleaning soils, structures,
foundations and artifacts and an evaluation and
selection process for the selection of which
buildings, landscapes and structures will be
retained to be recycled, reinterpreted and
reinserted into the context of the new city.

REMEDIACIÓN Y RECUPERACIÓN
PLAN IMMSA S.L.P.
En la Ciudad de San Luis Potosí una
importante planta industrial de cobre cerró en
2010. La intención del cliente es recuperar y
reconvertir el en un nuevo desarrollo urbano de
clase mundial.
Este Plan Maestro define estrategias para el
saneamiento de los emplazamientos; ubicación
confinamiento y la encapsulación de los suelos
contaminados; y el diseño del paisaje que
incorpora parques, depósitos y fuentes de
agua accesibles, áreas de conservación
natural, sistema de carril para bicicletas,
plazas, parques lineales y tampones, y paseos
de la ciudad.

In the City of San Luis Potosi a major cooper
Industrial Plant closed in 2010, after more than
100 years of production. The client´s intention is
to reclaim and reconvert the Site into a new
multi-use, world class urban development.
The Master Plan defines strategies for the site
remediation, location and encapsulation of
contaminated soils and strategic landscape
design. Through a careful and conscientious
remediation process for cleaning soils,
structures, foundations and artifacts and an
evaluation and selection process for the
selection of which buildings, landscapes and
structures will be retained to be recycled,
reinterpreted and reinserted into the context of
the new city.

PARQUE BICENTENARIOS SAN LUIS

El Parque Lineal Bicentenario es la primera
acción urbana del nuevo Plan IMMSA San Luis
Potosí́ al poniente de la ciudad. Este forma
parte de un sistema de espacios verdes de
recreación, ciclopistas, trotapistas y cuerpos de
agua que estructuran y ordenan el desarrollo.

PLAZA BUGAMBILIAS
Plaza Bugambilias es un Centro Comercial
Urbano – Vertical construido en la Ciudad de
Cuernavaca, en donde GDU – Mario
Schjetnan intervino una gran azotea de 8500
m2 convirtiéndose en un Roof Garden con
Restaurantes, Terrazas al aire libre, Juegos
Infantiles, Fuentes y Profusas Jardineras.
En especial, la terraza se ha sombreado con
enormes conos invertidos a base una lona
plástica especial que genera un carácter
orgánico en sintonía con la Terraza ondulante
de Jardineras, Fuentes, Zonas de estar y
juegos.

BUGAMBILIAS SHOPPING MALL
Plaza Bugambilias it’s a Urban and vertical
shopping mall in Cuernavaca, Morelos. GDU –
Mario Schjetnan intervened the rooftop and
transform this place in a wonderful Roof
Garden, in which there are Restaurants,
Outdoor Terraces, Playground, Gardens and
sources.

In particular, the terrace is shaded by huge
inverted cones based special plastic canvas
that generates an organic character in tune with
undulating terrace, fountains, rest areas and
play ground.

ACERTIJO,
MUSEO INTERACTIVO
Acertijo, es un museo alegre y transparente,
abierto, lleno de flexibilidad, con tendencia a
convertirse en un importante centro cultural y
social de la región de La Laguna. Cuenta con
Sala multi-temática que albergará alrededor de
60 exhibiciones con temas de Ciencia, Cuerpo
Humano y Entorno. Sala 3D, sala para
exposiciones temporales, plazas y terrazas,
salón privado, oficinas y servicios.
Es un edificio contemporáneo con materiales
de mucha duración y poco mantenimiento,
resistente al uso de los niños. Su diseño
dialoga y complementa el parque “La
Esperanza”, abriendo un importante acceso y
manteniendo una comunicación con éste.

Acertijo, is a cheerful and flexibile museum,
tending to become an important cultural and
social center of the region of La Laguna. It has
multi-themed space with 60 exhibitions for
themes of Science, Human Body and
Environment. It has a 3D room, temporary
exhibitions room, squares and terraces, private
lounge, offices and services.
It is a contemporary building and its materials
are lasting, resistant to the use of children and
low maintenance. Its design dialogue and
complement the important access to "La
Esperanza" park, and maintaining
communication with it.

CANAL DE LA CORTADURA
Proyecto Urbano y de Arquitectura de Paisaje
para reactivar el centro de la ciudad de
Tampico. Un extremo del canal conduce a la
laguna Carpintero y el otro extremo conduce
al río Pánuco.
GDU propuso rediseñar el borde del canal
como una zona peatonal con andadorx,
jardines, plazas y terrazas. Las conexiones a
través del canal mejorarón con el diseño e
incorporación de seis puentes vehiculares y
siete puentes peatonales y el diseño de un
canal navegable.

Urban and Landscape project to Reactivate
the down town of Tampico. One end of the
canal leads into the Carpintero lagoon and the
other end leads into Pánuco River.
GDU proposed redesigning the edge of the
canal as a pedestrian area with walkways,
gardens, squares and terraces; Connections
through the canal would be improved with the
addition of six vehicular bridges and seven
pedestrian bridges, and the navigable canal.

LOS ENCINOS DE SAN AGUSTÍN
Proyecto urbano, paisajístico y
arquitectónico de un conjunto habitacional
exclusivo en el municipio de San Pedro
Garza García en el estado de N.L. Ubicado
en un valle rodeado por montañas y
ambientes naturales únicos que se
conforman por tres clusters de viviendas en
44 hectáreas y cuentan con cinco parques
recreatívos para uso de los condóminos.
LOS ENCINOS DE SAN AGUSTIN
Architectural, Urban and Landscape project in
exclusive Residential complex in the valley,
surrounded by mountains and unique natural
environments in San Pedro Garza Garcia city,
state of Nuevo León. GDU were designed
three clusters of houses in 44 hectares and
five parks for people who live in the place.

GRAN PARQUE ECOLÓGICO DE
ZACATECAS
Constituye una importante reserva ecológica e
histórica, capaz de preservar especies
endémicas y mostrar a sus visitantes la
importancia del ecosistema, las condiciones y
características del terreno, así como las vistas y
al mismo tiempo desarrollar actividades
deportivas y de aventura para los amantes de la
naturaleza.

It is an important ecological and historical
reserve, able to preserve endemic species and
show visitors the importance of ecosystem
conditions and terrain features and views while
developing sports and adventure for nature
lovers.

PARQUE METROPOLITANO ORIENTE
El Gobierno Municipal de León ha creado un
plan de desarrollo urbano al oriente de la
ciudad, que consta de un cinturón verde
conformado por diferentes parques unidos por
un sistema vial de ciclopistas, zonas de
recreación, deportivas y culturales y
preservación de zonas naturales de gran

The Municipal Government of León has created
a urban development plan to the east of the
city, consisting of a green belt composed of
different parks to finally be connected by a
rsystem of bicycle paths, playgrounds, sports
and cultural activities and preservation of
natural areas of great importance.

LA ESPERANZA
El Plan Maestro contempla el reciclaje postindustrial de espacios públicos de descanso y
recreación, rodeados de jardines, cuerpos de
agua, cultura, arte, talleres, plazas abiertas y
zona deportiva, contenidos entre las murallas
de la que se consolidó en su tiempo como
la industria jabonera más importante de la
laguna.

The Master Plan contemplates the postindustrial recycling of public spaces for
leisure and recreation, surrounded by
gardens, water bodies, art, workshops,
plazas and sports areas, contained within
the wall of what in its time was the largest
soap industry of the lagoon region.

AMANALI COUNTRY CLUB & NÁUTICA
Nuestro despacho estuvo a cargo del Plan
Maestro, el Diseño Urbano, la Arquitectura de
Paisaje y la Arquitectura. Desarollamos el
anteproyecto del campo de golf de 18 hoyos, la
plaza de acceso, la casa club, el club de tennis
y la zona.
El Proyecto Ejecutivo incluye un camino de
acceso al desarrollo con una plaza, el
boulevard interior, definición de lotes por
manzanas y lotificación de 128 clusters de una
superficie de 400 m2 con vista al campo de golf
o vista panorámica a la Presa Requena en
donde se podrán practicar deportes acuáticos,
una plaza de remate con fuente, show room y
lagos.

The project is a residential development with an
associated golf club and water sports on the
edge of the Requena Reservoir. GDU was in
charge of the master plan, the urban design,
and the architectural and landscape design.
GDU developed the preliminary design of the
18-hole golf course, the access plaza,
showroom offices, the club house, a
tennis club, and a commercial area.

The Executive Project includes an access road
to the residential development with a plaza, an
interior boulevard, the definition of lots by
blocks and clusters; these lots will have either
view towards the golf course or panoramic
views of the nearby reservoir. It also includes a
terminus plaza with a fountain, a show room,
lakes and a park.

SAN PEDRO CREEK
El despacho realizó una consultoría de Diseño
de Paisaje para Muñoz & Co. en la ciudad de
San Antonio. TX. El proyecto San Pedro Creek
consiste en el Diseño de un Parque lineal
siguiendo el cause del arrollo, haciéndolo
accesible, de una manera que refleja el
nacimiento de la ciudad de San Antonio y las
diferentes cultura con las que cuenta.
Este proyecto incluye el uso de materiales,
tales como piedra caliza y hormigón pintado
para crear un efecto más natural; espejos de
agua y diversos juegos de agua que se
incorporaron a lo largo de la intervención. La
reubicación de los diferentes espacios como el
anfiteatro y el parque de bolsillo le dio al
espacio más apertura y flujo.

Landscape Design Consultants, working
together with the San Antonio Based Firm
Muñoz & Co. the San Pedro Creek project was
redesigned in a way that reflected the birth of
the City of San Antonio and the different
cultures it has. Making the whole linear park
beside the creek more walkable and
accessible, the objective was met in four
charettes in a period of three months, in San
Antonio, working on site and getting to know
the city and its needs. The new project included
use of materials, such as limestone and painted
concrete to create a more natural effect.
Reflecting pools and various water features
were incorporated along the intervention. The
relocation of different spaces like the
amphitheater and the pocket park gave the
project more aperture and flow. .

JARDÍN NATURA DEL
PARQUE BICENTENARO
El Parque Bicentenario es el resultado de la
conversión de un área industrial en desuso al
norte de la ciudad de México, una refinería que
cerró en 1988, como proceso del relocalización
de plantas y empresas contaminantes. Por
medio de un acuerdo el gobierno federal dona
al estado 55 hectáreas sometidas a un proceso
de remediación y limpieza para desarrollar la
construcción de un parque totalmente nuevo.
NATURA GARDEN AT THE
BICENTENNIAL PARK
Bicentennial Park resulted from the conversion
of an industrial area north of Mexico City, it
included a refinery which was shut down in
1998 as part of Mexico´s plan to relocate
polluting factories and companies. The federal
government, which donated 55 hectares of the
area, submitted the process of remediation and
handled the site clean up.

El Jardín Natura se encuentra dentro del
Parque Bicentenario en la ciudad de México.
Este se desarrolla como una serie de jardines
botánicos que representan los nueve biomas
más significativos de México. Cuatro de ellos
son áreas abiertas, tres son invernaderos con
bio-climas internos,
retención de agua de
lluvia y sistema de vapor de agua para su
propio riego y por último un orquidiario creado
dentro de una cisterna ahora adaptada con
rampas flotantes que recorren el largo total del
espacio para su recorrido.
NATURA GARDEN AT THE
BICENTENNIAL PARK
The Natura Garden is located within Parque
Bicentenario in Mexico City.
This development is a series of botanical
gardens representing the nine most significant
biomes Mexico. Four are open areas, three
have green house buildings with bio-climates,
rainwater retention system and steam for its
own irrigation; and finally an orchid garden in a
tank now fitted with floating ramps that run the
total length of the space was also created.

Proyecto paisajístico y arquitectónico de un
parque reserva natural y cultural, resguardando
y acentuando las características naturales del
sitio en estrecha relación y equilibrio entre la
naturaleza y la cultura que existe en los
asentamientos arqueológicos y prehispánicos
del área.

Architectural and landscape project of a cultural
park and natural reserve, that preserves and
enhances the natural features of the site. It also
maintains the balanced relationships between
nature and culture which are present in the
pre-hispanic and archaeological settlements of
the area.

MUSEO DE SITIO
El recorrido del parque se realiza a través de
un eje central y dos secuenciales al norte y al
sur que se encuentran conectados entre sí por
medio de senderos y plazas que comunican a
los diferentes miradores. La segunda fase
incluye una zona de acceso principal y una
plaza interior que cuenta con estacionamiento
y comercios. Además sirve también como
vestíbulo para el Centro de Atención a
Visitantes que alberga al Museo de Sitio.

SITE MUSEUM
The park is organized through a central path
and two sequenced routes to the north and
south. These three elements are connected
among themselves through paths and plazas
linked to various viewing platforms and to the
Jungle Interpretative Center. The second phase
includes an access area, an interior plaza with
parking, restaurants and shops, which also
functions as a lobby for the Visitor Center within
the Site Museum.

PARQUE METROPOLITANO LAGUNA
DE CHAPULCO
Parque de carácter educativo y didáctico con
énfasis en el medio ambiente local. Lleva a
cabo la rehabilitación de una vaso existente
para controlar descargas de tormentas y
avenidas así como regular y controlar el riesgo
por inundaciones. Pretende crear un espacio
ecológico con diversos ecosistemas como
humedales y cuerpos de agua para atraer avifauna y fauna acuática. Provee espacios
recreativos y familiares.
METROPOLITAN PARK OF CHAPULCO
This is a cultural and Ecological Park which is
on the surroundings of a reservoir that avoids
flooding due to the dam that helps to regulate
the water in the city of Puebla. The park´s main
goal was to create an ecologic space with
different ecosystems surrounded by water. So
families can come and enjoy the open spaces.
And those who want to learn can go in to the
Environmental Center.

PROBIOMED es una empresa mexicana
dedicada a la investigación y fabricación de
productos biomédicos. Localizado en
Tenancingo, Estado de México y ha creado un
campus de alta tecnología biomédica, cuyo
primer componente es su propia planta,
ampliada y modernizada mediante un proceso
planeado.
Nuestro despacho en conjunto con Colectivo
MX, desarrolló el proyecto arquitectónico,
urbanístico y paisajístico de la planta, los
laboratorios, las oficinas y un amplio comedor
para empleados y ejecutivos, además de la
planificación del campus, en donde se alojarán
empresas similares o extensiones afines a las
de la empresa.

PROBIOMED is a Mexican company dedicated
to the research and manufacture of biomedical
products. Located in Tenancingo, State of
Mexico and has created a high-tech biomedical
campus, whose first component is its own
plant, expanded and modernized through a
planned process.
Our office in conjunction with Collective MX,
developed the architectural, urban and
landscape design of the plant, laboratories,
offices and a large dining room for employees
and executives, in addition to planning campus,
where similar companies or related extensions
will be staying the company.
OJO DE AGUA DEL OBISPO
El estado de Durango, localizado al norte
del país, ha construido en el centro de su
ciudad capital un complejo conformado por
tres parques: Ojo de Agua del Obispo (siglos
XVI-XVIII), Guadiana (XIX) y Sahuatoba
(XX). Nuestro despacho fue seleccionado
para hacer un plan maestro de todo el
conjunto, con el fin de rehabilitar e integrar
los parques y diseñar uno nuevo
denominado Tercer Milenio, el cual tendrá́
un jardín botánico y áreas deportivas.
La primera acción estratégica del plan
maestro consistió́ en la restauración y
rehabilitación del Ojo de Agua del Obispo,
lleno de simbolismos significativos para la
ciudad y el estado.

The Durango government made a complex
of three pre-existing parks in Durango City,
Ojo de Agua del Obispo, (c.16th – c. 18th),

Our office was selected to design and
rehabilitate the overall complex, adding a
new park known as Third Millennium, which
was to include a botanical garden and sports
areas. The first strategic action consisted of
restoring Ojo de Agua del Obispo, which
was full of significant symbolisms to the
state and the city.

GDU was invited by Geópolis to generate the
Master Plan for a new city, which will be a major
part of the Bicentennial Cities Program promoted
by the State of Mexico. The development’s
location is close to the Zumpango Lagoon, north
of Mexico City
and was designed for a
population of about 800, 000 inhabitants. As part
of the project, the Design of the Urban Center was
also developed, defining it as the main core of
services and infrastructure for the Bicentennial
City.

conjunto incluye plazas, cuerpos de agua,

aguas pluviales al acuífero subterráneo y
reciclaje del agua.

landscape architecture includes plazas, water
features, gardens, parking lots, access building,
cafeteria and pergola. In this project special
emphasis is devoted to the reinjection of rain

PARQUE LOS ITZÍCUAROS
Desarrollo de un plan maestro para un parque
metropolitano, ecológico, público, recreativo,
productivo y cultural. El proyecto incluye
varios cuerpos de agua diseñados para
diversos usos: el primero para el tratamiento
de aguas negras, el segundo es un lago
orientado a la atracción de aves migratorias,
el tercero a la pesca y el remo, el cuarto es
un lago recreativo con pequeños botes y
kayaks y por último, el quinto contará con
esculturas acuáticas.
LOS ITZICUAROS PARK
The project is the master plan for a
metropolitan, ecological, public, recreational,
productive and cultural park. This project
includes several water bodies designed for
different uses:

first one is for the
treatment of black waters, the second is a
lagoon oriented to attract migratory birds, the
third will
provide fishing and rowing, the
fourth one is a recreational lake for small
boats and kayaks and the fifth one is a
visual

with aquatic sculptures that

PLAYA ENCANTADA
El Desarrollo “Playa Encantada” está dividido
en 7 barrios, cada uno de los cuales
tendrá

plaza-parque que le dará
carácter e identidad. Cada espacio fue
conceptualizado para ofrecer distintas
sensaciones y usos. Las plazas se
estructuran a lo largo de una espina dorsal
que genera un recorrido por todo el
desarrollo, reforzando además el carácter
peatonal. Además cuenta con un
campo
de golf de 9 hoyos Par 3, una pista de
correr, fuentes, lagos artificiales, arte urbano
y jardines de plantas endémicas.

Development "Playa Encantada" is divided
into seven districts, each of which will have a
plaza-park that will give character and identity.
Each space was conceptualized to provide
different sensations and uses. The squares
are structured along a spine that creates a
sketch of the development, and strengthening
the pedestrian nature. It also has a golf
course 9 hole Par 3, a jogging track,
fountains, artificial lakes, urban art and
gardens of endemic plants.

Union Point Park forma parte de un extenso

El Cedazo es una presa cuya historia se
remonta a mediados del Siglo XX, cuando fue

Schjetnan fue el de restaurar la presa y

y de recreación familiar, así como la creación
de una planta de tratamiento de aguas negras
para el riego de áreas verdes.
EL CEDAZO RECREATIONAL PARK
The dam at El Cedazo (the filter) dates back
to the 16th century, when it was abandoned
and the basin was polluted by sewage and
choked with silt and trash.
Schjetnan’s work involved the restoration of
both the dam and the lake and the
construction of a new center with sport areas
and cultural and recreative activities. He also
created a sewage treatment plant used for
irrigation in the park.

vast scale, the project also addresses
challenges of urbanization in one of the most
populous cities in the developing world,
providing both open space for recreation and
productive land for economic development.
Xochimilco, meaning “the place where flowers
are grown,” is a fragment of a pre-Conquest,
even pre-Aztec landscape of artificial garden
islands created in the lake that once filled a
large area in Mexico City.

El club se ubica en un valle rodeado por
montañas, es por eso que se proyectó el
paisaje urbano de las plazas de acceso,
calles y avenidas, jardines, lagos y cascadas,
así como estacionamiento, club de tenis, la
forestación y jardinería del campo de golf de
forma que se integran al paisaje.
Las piedras de la zona se utilizaron para
construir las murallas siguiendo con la
tradición del paisaje, característico de la
región. En las calles se usaron adoquines
pequeños para una superficie sólida, mientras
que las piedras más grandes marcan los
bordes.
MALINALCO GOLF CLUB
The project includes: urban landscape,
plazas, streets, gardens and lakes, parking
and a tennis club. The club lies in a lush
agricultural valley surrounded by high cliffs,
one of which boasts a pre-Columbian temple
and fortress complex. Native stone was used
extensively at the club for walls and street
surfaces; indigenous trees and other plants
well adapted to the subtropical highlands
were planted along the roads.

PARQUE HOSTÓRICO CULHUACAN
Se trata de uno de los pocos monumentos
históricos, ubicado en el sureste de la Ciudad
de México. Entre las características
arquitectónicas de estilo renacentista
destacan los muros de basalto volcánico o
recinto, que es un material propio de la zona.
Los claustros son de gran sobriedad; en su
interior prevalecen excelentes frescos de
estilo barroco plateresco que reflejan la
maestría de los antiguos Tlacuilos o pintores
Culhuacanos.
CULHUACAN HISTORICAL PARK
It is one of the few landmarks, located in the
southeast of Mexico City. Among the
Renaissance architectural features include
volcanic basalt walls or enclosure, which is its
own zone material. The cloisters are of great
sobriety; within prevailing Baroque excellent
fresh plateresco reflecting mastery of ancient
Culhuacans tlacuilos or painters.

Located in a dense populated working-class
district of Mexico City. At the heart of the park,
there is a lagoon that recreates the contours of
the extensive system of lakes that once filled
the Valley of Mexico; it is surrounded by low
hills echoing the topography of the region. It is
built on a reclaimed industrial site; the mounds
were made of earth from subway excavations,
and recycled water - treated sewage from a
nearby housing project - is used for the lake
and for irrigation.

despacho diseñar la casa de huéspedes,
además de un jardín con varios ambientes de
vegetación tropical el cual incluye un lago que
recolecta el agua y la utiliza para riego,
terrazas y una cancha de tenis.

Malinalco is a village situated in a splendid
subtropical valley of Mexico State. In this
beautiful village, the project was built on land
with an existing house and adjacent land
totaling nearly 7000 m2. The goal was to
design the guest house, and a garden with
various tropical vegetation environments . This
includes a lake that collects water and uses it
for irrigating terraces and a tennis court.

Es el resultado de una síntesis entre las
constantes
del clima, la arquitectura, el
paisaje y la cultura local. Las aguas grises de
la casa son recicladas mediante un filtro
de arena, y uttilizadas para regar las
áreas verdes que rodean la casa.
HOUSE AT MALINALCO
Weekend house, built on an old orchard
(coffee, bananas, mango and citrus trees), in
a climate that includes rainy and dry seasons,
the landscape is designed to minimize both
runoff and irrigation. Cobbled pavers allow
percolation of storm water; runoff passes
through the orchard to an absorption well near
the house. Grey water from the house is
recycled into the orchard through a sand
filter.

Mario Schjetnan: Entorno urbano y Paisaje de la editorial
Arquine muestra la obra arquitectónica y paisajística de
Mario Schjetnan y su taller grupo de diseño urbano, con
proyectos de espacio público y desarrollos de escala
urbana, construidos en diversas ciudades de la República
Mexicana en la primera década del Siglo XXI (2000 al
2010). Los artículos conceptuales de introducción y
análisis fueros escritos por dos prestigiados críticos de
arquitectura y paisaje: Roberto Segre y Jimena Martignoni.
Segre destaca en la arquitectura de Schjetnan: El dialogo
entre la historia y la naturaleza, la función social del
paisaje y el sincretismo del paisaje mexicano. Martignoni
resalta la conversión de áreas postindustriales, la
utilización del agua y la preservación del material vegetal
de carácter arqueológico.
URBAN ENVIONMENT AND LANDSCAPE
Mario Schjetnan: Urban Environment and Landscape from
Arquine publishers is about Landscape Architecture with
an interdisciplinary approach; always aspiring to improve
the quality of life of the users who inhabit the projects. This
is Schjetnan’s signature work.
This book presents 10 built projects developed by Mario
Schjetnan leading the firm Grupo de Diseño Urbano from
2000 to 2010 in Mexico and the United States.
The introduction was written by two prestigious LatinAmerican Roberto Segre and Jimena Martignoni.
Segre addresses the dialogue between history and nature,
landscape’s social function and the syncretism of Mexican
landscapes in Mario Schjetnan’s creations. Martignoni
stands out the conversion of postindustrial areas, the use
of water and the preservation of archaeological plant life,
imprinted in the projects

“Landscape, Architecture
and Urbanism”, includes the
most relevant projects of Schjetnan and his office Grupo
de Diseño Urbano in the areas of Urbanism, Landscape
and Architecture until 2007. Among the most important
projects are: Chapultepec Park Restoration, Union Point

detailed, inside look at the outstanding work of the most
innovative individual landscape garden designers working
today.
Each book features ten gardens by a single premier
landscape designer. All ten landscapes are illustrated with
beautiful photography, plans, drawings, sketches, and
details of important garden elements.
Mexico City - based Mario Schjetnan ́s work is well known
both in Latin America and in the United States. His work
consists of both residential designs as well as incredible
urban parks throughout Mexico.
The book “TEN LANDSCAPES” was published

MARIO SCHJETNAN GARDUÑO
Arquitecto y Paisajista mexicano que nació en la Ciudad de México en el año de 1945. Egresó de la
Facultad de Arquitectura de la UNAM en 1968 y en 1970 concluye la Maestría en Arquitectura de Paisaje
con énfasis en Diseño Urbano de la Universidad de California, en Berkeley. Durante el año de 1984
obtuvo la Beca Loeb de la Universidad de Harvard, para realizar estudios ambientales avanzados.
En 1977 fundó su Taller, Grupo de Diseño Urbano, junto al Arq. José Luis Pérez Maldonado, desarrollando
principalmente proyectos de diversas tipologías y escalas de Arquitectura de Paisaje, Diseño Urbano y
Arquitectura. A lo largo de estos años se ha caracterizado por marcar tendencia en la mayoría de los
proyectos realizados con respecto a estas áreas en México, Estados Unidos y algunos otros países y ha
sido distinguido con premios y reconocimientos Nacionales e internacionales.
Mario Schjetnan también ha desarrollado una labor académica importante: Talleres de Diseño de Paisaje en
la Universidad de Harvard, Cambridge, Massachusetts los años de 1994, 1998 y 2005; La Cátedra Beatrix
Farrand con un taller de Paisaje Urbano en la Universidad de California en Berkeley; Fue director de la
Maestría en Arquitectura de Paisaje en la Universidad de Arizona, Texas de 1999 a 2001 y a su regreso fue
distinguido con la Cátedra Extraordinaria Federico Mariscal en la UNAM, en la ciudad de México. En 2006
obtuvo la Cátedra Rose Carter de la Universidad de Austin, Texas y en el 2007 impartió la Cátedra Talbott en
la Universidad de Virginia en Charlottesville, Virginia. Ha ofrecido conferencias en universidades de EUA,
Brasil, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Australia, Rusia, China, Nueva Zelanda,
España, Italia, Irlanda por nombrara algunos países.
Durante el 2010 el Colegio de Arquitectos de la Ciudad de México y la Sociedad de Arquitectos Mexicanos le
otorgaron por su trayectoria el premio María Ignacia Rodríguez de Velasco en Proyectos de Desarrollo
Urbano y Arquitectura de Paisaje, en el 2012 tuvo el honor de ser nombrado miembro de número de la
Academia de Artes de México y en este 2015, ha recibido el premio Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award 2015 por
parte de la Federación Internacional de Arquitectos Paisajistas (IFLA), este es el premio más importante
para un Arquitecto Paisajista y el Arq. Mario Schjetnan es primer Latinoamericano en obtenerlo.
Su obras han sido publicada en los libros: “Mario Schjetnan/TEN LANDSCAPES”, editorial Rockport;
“Arquitectura, Ciudad y Naturaleza” publicado por el INAH; “Lansdscape, Architecture and Urbanism”,
editorial Spacemaker Press y la más reciente publicación “Mario Schjetnan: Entorno Urbano y Paisaje”
editorial Arquine, con textos introductorios de Roberto Segre y Jimena Martignoni. Su obra también ha sido
difundida en diversos medios impresos y digitales, nacionales e internacionales

MARIO SCHJETNAN
Born in Mexico City, Mario obtained a degree in Architecture from the National University of Mexico (UNAM)
in 1968. He proceeded to obtain a Master Degree in Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in urban
design at the University of California, Berkeley in 1970. In 1984 he was selected as a Loeb Fellowship at the
Graduate School of Design, Harvard University. In 1977,
Mario started his own firm, Grupo de Diseño Urbano / GDU, along with José Luis Pérez, having
executed a wide range of projects, including diverse typologies and scales in architecture, urban design
and landscape architecture. GDU and Mario Schjetnan have been distinguished with national and
international awards and recognitions in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.
Mario Schjetnan has also devoted his life to teaching. He has given numerous workshops and studios in
several universities including: Harvard University in 1994, 1998 and 2005. In 2001 the University of
California, Berkeley invited Mario to give the Beatrix Farrand Chair in Landscape Architecture. Mario was the
director of the School of Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona, Tucson from 1999 to 2001. He
was distinguished with the Federico Mariscal Chair in Architecture from UNAM in 2001. In 2006, he received
the Cathedra Rose Carter from the University of Austin Texas and in 2007, the Cathedra Talbott from the
University of Virginia. He has been a lecturer at Universities in the EUA, Brasil, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia,
Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Australia, Rusia, China, Nueva Zelanda, España, Italia and Irlanda, to appoint
some countries.
In 2010 the College of Architects of Mexico City and the Mexican Society of Architects granted him by Maria
Ignacia Rodriguez de Velasco prize for Projects of Urban Development and Landscape Architecture and for
his trayectory. In 2012 he had the honor of being appointed a member of the Academy of Arts of Mexico and
in this 2015, he has received the Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award 2015 given by the International Federation of
Landscape Architects (IFLA), this is the highest award of Landscape Architecture worldwide and Architect
Schjetnan is the first Latin American to get it.
The work of GDU has been published in the books: Mario Schjetnan / TEN LANDSCAPES from Rockport
Publishers; Arquitectura, Ciudad y Naturaleza published by CONACULTA-INAH, in conjunction with a major
exhibit of his work. Another publication “Landscape, Architecture and Urbanism” from Spacemaker Press. His
more recent publication is “Mario Schjetnan: Urban Environment and Landscape” from Arquine which has
text introduction from Roberto Segre and Jimena Martignoni. Schjetnan´s work has been published in
numerous reviews, magazines and newspapers in Mexico and abroad.
GERENTE URBANISMO Y PLANEACIÓN / PLANNING AND URBAN MANAGER
MANUEL PENICHE OSORIO
Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1952. Estudió Arquitectura en la Universidad Iberoamericana en 1974 y
posteriormente cursó la Maestría de Arquitectura en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México
ampliando sus conocimientos con diversos diplomados y seminarios en las áreas como: Teoría de la
Arquitectura, Planeación, Diseño Urbano, Arquitectura de Paisaje, Ecología, Forestación Urbana,
Arquitectura Bioclimática y Administración de Proyectos.
Ha formado parte de diversos despachos y firmas privados, así como de instituciones públicas. Entre 1974
y 1975 formó parte del programa de investigación y Vivienda de Interés Social en el INFONAVIT. Ocupó el
puesto de Jefe de la Oficina de Evaluación Social de Diseño del mismo instituto de 1976 a 1978. A partir de
1979 forma parte de Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, donde se encarga del área de Planeación y Diseño
Urbano, participado en el desarrollo de proyectos de Arquitectura, Arquitectura de Paisaje y Planeación
ambiental.
En cuanto a actividades académicas, ha impartido cursos a nivel licenciatura, diplomados y maestrías. Fue
profesor de la UIA, impartiendo diversas asignaturas, incluyendo talleres y cursos de areas como: Teoría de
la Arquitectura, Proyectos Urbanos y Diseño Ambiental. Además colaboró como profesor
invitado y conferencista en varias universidades del país y como ponente en distintos foros y congresos
Nacionales e Internacionales.
Born in Mexico City in 1952. He studied Architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana and his Master in
Architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Manuel specializes in diverse degrees and
seminaries such as: Theory of the Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Ecology,
Urban Forestry, Bio-climatic Architecture and Project
Management. He has worked in several firms and government agencies. From 1974 to 1975 he
participated in research programs about Social Interest Housing at INFONAVIT. He served as Chief
of the Of fice of Design & Social Evaluation of the same Institute from 1976 to 1978. Since 1979 he has
been a collaborator with Grupo de Diseño Urbano, where he has participated in the development of many
projects, having a broad professional experience in the areas of Architecture, Urban & Environmental
Planning, Urban Design, and Landscape Architecture.
As far as academic activities, he has taught courses at undergraduate, graduate and master levels. He has
been a professor at UIA, collaborating in several subjects including Project Workshops and Theory of
Architecture courses, Urban Projects and Environmental Design. In addition, he has participated and
collaborated as a guest professor and lecturer in various universities, and as a sponsor in several national and
international forums and congresses.

MARCO ARTURO RODRÍGUEZ
Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1962. Realizó sus estudios de Arquitectura en la ENEP Acatlán
de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
Se integró a Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, en 1986 como colaborador, participando conjuntamente en
desarrollos profesionales en las áreas de Arquitectura, Arquitectura del Paisaje, Diseño Urbano y
Planeación Ambiental. Ahora se encarga de la Coordinación del Proyectos, entre los que destacan: La
Rehabilitación del Bosque de Chapultepec, Ciudad de México, Parque Metropolitano de Chapulco, el la
ciudad de Puelbla, Puebla, Ojo de Agua del Obispo, en Durago, Durango, Gran Parque Ecológico Zacatecas
en la ciudad de Zacatecas, Canal de la Cortadura en Tampico, Tamaulipas entre otros.
Born in Mexico City in 1962, Marco completed his Architectural studies at the National University of Mexico,
campus ENEP Acatlán.
He has worked with GDU since 1986, collaborating in several Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban
Planning and Environmental Planning projects in Mexico. Marco worked as Project Manager for the
Rehabilitation of Chapultepec Park, in México, City, The Metropolitan Park of Chapulco, in Puebla, Puebla,
Ojo de Agua del Obispo, in Durango, Durango, Zacatecas Ecological Park in Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Canal de
la Cortadura in Tampico, Tamaulipas among others.

ANA SCHJETNAN ROMERO
Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1978. Estudió Derecho en la Universidad Iberoamericana y posteriormente
amplió su sus conocimientos en el área de Relaciones Públicas con un diplomado en esta especialidad en la
Universidad de Nueva York.
Trabajó de 1998 hasta el 2002 en diferentes despachos de abogados como Moreno y Asociados, De
Ovando Martínez del Campo y Backer & McKenzie, así como en la Asamblea Legislativa del Distrito
Federal apoyando a diputados del Partido Acción Nacional, PAN, durante un año.
En Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, dirigío el área de Relaciones Públicas del año 2003 al 2010 y a partir de
ese año dempeña el cargo de Gerente General.
En paralelo, funda Arka Eventos en 2005 y organiza congresos de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Arquitectura de
Paisaje tales como: Garden Conservancy (2005), Urban Age (2006), Congreso Nacional de Arquitectura de
Paisaje en México (2007), entre otros.

Mexico, including, Garden Conservancy (2005), Urban Age (2006), National, and the Landscape Architecture
Congress (2007).
