Family Time is a home study guide for the Soccer and Scouting
participant and his family. According to the grade level of the
child, participants receive one of the following posters:
First graders receive the Tiger Cub Scout poster.
Second graders receive the Wolf Cub Scout poster.
Third graders receive the Bear Cub Scout poster.
Fourth and fifth graders receive the Webelos Scout poster.
Participants are asked to complete 10 soccer and 10 Scouting activities in each 12-week season.
During the four 12-week seasons boys will work through the Cub Scout advancement program and
earn Cub Scout badges, as well as advance their soccer skills.
A Family Time poster will be handed to each boy at the end of the first weekend practice/game,
which is generally held on the second Saturday of each Soccer and Scouting season. The first
activity should be completed by the end of week 3.

WEEK 3
Scouting Activity
Have a family meeting and talk about camping. See
if boy and other family members are interested in
taking a tent to a state park or other camping area
and spending a weekend. If so, plan your meals and
cook while you are camping. Find out if there are any
hiking trails where you are going to camp and take a
hike with your family.

Write down five things you want to improve upon
this season.
WEEK 4
Scouting Activity
Help your boy memorize the Scout Oath or Promise
and the 12 points of the Scout Law. Discuss what they
mean and how your family members have practiced
them in their everyday life.

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God
and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help
other people at all times; to keep myself physically
strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

The Meaning of the Scout Oath
When you say “On my honor,” that’s like saying “I
promise.” It also means you are the kind of person who
always tries to do what is right and you can be trusted
to keep this promise. No one can take your honor
from you, but you can throw it away by breaking your
promise and doing what you know is wrong. Notice
that the Scout Oath has three basic parts. Let’s look at
what they mean.
To Do My Duty to God and My Country and to Obey
the Scout Law. Your family and religious leaders
teach you to know and serve God. By following these
teachings, you do your duty to God. Men and women
of the past worked to make America great, and many
gave their lives for their country. By being a good
family member and a good citizen, by working for your
country’s good and obeying its laws, you do your duty
to your country. Obeying the Scout Law means living
by its 12 points. The Scout Law is explained below.
To Help Other People at All Times. Many people
need help. A cheery smile and a helping hand make
life easier for others. By doing a Good Turn daily and
helping when you’re needed, you prove yourself a
Scout and do your part to make this a better world.
To Keep Myself Physically Strong, Mentally Awake,
and Morally Straight. Keeping yourself physically
strong means taking good care of your body. Eat the
right foods and build your strength. Staying mentally
awake means learn all you can, be curious, and ask
questions. Being morally straight means to live your
life with honesty, to be clean in your speech and
actions, and to be a person of strong character.
Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,
courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave,
clean, and reverent.
The Scout Law has 12 points. Each is a goal for every
Scout. He does his best to live up to the Law. It is not
always easy to do, but a Scout always tries.
A Scout is Trustworthy. A Scout tells the truth. He is
honest, and he keeps his promises. People can depend
on him.
A Scout is Loyal. A Scout is true to his family, friends,
Scout leaders, school, and nation.
A Scout is Helpful. A Scout cares about other people.
He willingly volunteers to help others without
expecting payment or reward.
A Scout is Friendly. A Scout is a friend to all. He is a
brother to other Scouts. He offers his friendship to
people of all races and nations, and respects them even
if their beliefs and customs are different from his own.
A Scout is Courteous. A Scout is polite to everyone
regardless of age or position. He knows that using good
manners makes it easier for people to get along.
A Scout is Kind. A Scout knows there is strength
in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be
treated. Without good reason, he does not harm or
kill any living thing.
A Scout is Obedient. A Scout follows the rules of his
family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his
community and country. If he thinks these rules and
laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an
orderly manner rather than disobeying them.
A Scout is Cheerful. A Scout looks for the bright side
of life. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He
tries to make others happy.
A Scout is Thrifty. A Scout works to pay his way and
to help others. He saves for the future. He protects
and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses
time and property.
A Scout is Brave. A Scout can face danger although he
is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks
is right even if others laugh at him or threaten him.
A Scout is Clean. A Scout keeps his body and mind
fit. He chooses the company of those who live
by high standards. He helps keep his home and
community clean.
A Scout is Reverent. A Scout is reverent toward God.
He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the
beliefs of others.

Soccer Golf
Set out nine targets in your backyard or at a local
park. Count how many passes it takes you to hit
each target. Total the number of passes it took you
to hit all nine targets.
WEEK 5
Scouting Activity
Ask your boy to tell you the Scout motto and slogan,
and show you the Scout sign, salute, and handshake.
Ask him to teach you and all members of the family
these five things.
Scout Motto
Be Prepared
The Scout motto is “Be Prepared.” Someone once
asked Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting,
“Be prepared for what?” Baden-Powell replied, “Why,
for any old thing.” That’s the idea. The Scout motto
means you are always ready to do your duty and to
face danger, if necessary, to help others.
Scout Slogan
Do a Good Turn daily.
The Scout slogan is “Do a Good Turn daily.” This doesn’t
mean you’re supposed to do one Good Turn during the
day and then stop. It means you do at least one Good
Turn a day. It means looking for chances to help and
then helping quietly, without boasting about it.
Always remember that a Good Turn is an extra act of
kindness—something you go out of your way to do.
Scout Sign
The Scout sign shows you are a Scout. Give it each time
you recite the Scout Oath and Law. When a Scout or
Scouter raises the Scout sign, all Scouts should make
the sign, too, and come to silent attention.
To give the Scout sign, cover the nail of the little finger
of your right hand with your right thumb, then raise
your right arm bent in a 90-degree angle, and hold
the three middle fingers of your hand upward. Those
fingers stand for the three parts of the Scout Oath.
Your thumb and little finger touch to represent the
bond that unites Scouts throughout the world.
Scout Salute
The Scout salute shows respect. Use it to salute the
flag of the United States of America. You may also
salute a Scout leader or another Scout.
Give the Scout salute by forming the Scout sign with
your right hand and then bringing that hand upward
until your forefinger touches the brim of your hat or
the arc of your right eyebrow. The palm of your hand
should not show.
Scout Handshake
The Scout handshake is made with the hand nearest
the heart and is offered as a token of friendship.
Extend your left hand to another Scout and firmly
grasp his left hand. The fingers do not interlock.

plain ball and draw a new design on it.

Scouting Activity
Help your boy learn to tie the
square knot. Learn it yourself,
and help other members of the
family learn to tie this knot.

Go camping overnight with your boy and the other
boys and their families.

Hide a small stuffed animal somewhere in the meeting
place. Choose a boy to try to find it. As he gets nearer,
boys make the sound the animal makes. Start quietly
and as the boy gets closer, make the sound louder.

WEEK 9
Scouting Activity
Discuss these questions with your family. Why is a promise
important? Why is it important for people to trust you
when you give your word? When might it be difficult to
be truthful? Get everyone to give an example.
Scouting Activity
Ask your boy to show your family how to play the
postman game. Invite some neighbors over to play it
with your family, with your boy giving the directions.
Postman
Players stand in a circle. Each is given the name of
a local city. The player in the center is the postman.
The leader is the postmaster. The postmaster calls
out the names of two cities. The players naming
those cities must switch places with each other, while
the postmaster tries to take over an empty spot. If
successful, the player without a spot is the new
postman. The leader may call several cities at once.
The announcement “Parcel Post” means everyone
must change where they’re standing in the circle.

“Family Time” (Tiempo con la Familia) es una guía de estudios
en el hogar para el participante de Fútbol y Scouting y su
familia. De acuerdo con el nivel escolar del niño, los participantes

El significado de la Promesa del Scout
Cuando dicen “Por mi honor”, equivale a decir “yo
prometo”. También significa ser el tipo de persona
que siempre trata de hacer lo que es correcto y que se
puede confiar en que mantendrán su palabra. Nadie
puede quitarle el honor a alguien, pero se puede
perder al romper la promesa y hacer lo que sabes que
está mal. Tomen nota de que la Promesa del Scout
está constituida por tres partes básicas. Veamos lo
que significan.
Para cumplir con mi deber hacia Dios y mi patria y
para obedecer la Ley del Scout. Tu familia y líderes
religiosos te enseñan a conocer y a servir a Dios. Al
seguir estas enseñanzas, tú cumples con tu deber hacia
Dios. Hombres y mujeres del pasado trabajaron para
hacer de Norteamérica un país grandioso y muchos
dieron sus vidas por él. Al ser un buen miembro
de tu familia y un buen ciudadano, al trabajar por
el bienestar de tu país y al obedecer las leyes, estás
cumpliendo con tu deber hacia tu patria. Obedecer
la Ley del Scout significa vivir bajo sus 12 puntos. La
Ley del Scout se explica a continuación.
Para ayudar a los demás en todo tiempo. Mucha gente
necesita ayuda. Una sonrisa alegre y una mano para
ayudar hacen la vida más sencilla para los demás. Al
realizar una Buena Acción (Good Turn) diariamente
y al ayudar cuando se te necesita, demuestras que
eres un Scout y haces tu parte para hacer de éste, un
mundo mejor.
Para mantenerme físicamente fuerte, mentalmente
alerta y moralmente recto. Mantenerte físicamente
fuerte significa cuidar de tu cuerpo. Comer los
alimentos adecuados y fortalecerte. Mantenerte
mentalmente alerta significa aprender todo lo que
puedas, ser curioso y hacer preguntas. Ser moralmente
recto significa que vives tu vida con honestidad, que
eres decente en tu manera de hablar y en tus acciones,
y que eres una persona con un carácter sólido.
Un Scout es digno de confianza, leal, servicial,
amistoso, cortés, bondadoso, obediente, alegre,
ahorrativo, valiente, limpio, y reverente.
El significado de la Ley Scout
La Ley Scout tiene 12 puntos. Cada uno es una meta
para cada Scout. Él hace su mejor esfuerzo para vivir
de acuerdo a la Ley. No siempre es fácil hacerlo, pero
un Scout siempre lo intenta.
Un Scout es Digno de Confianza. Un Scout dice la
verdad. Él es honesto y mantiene sus promesas. La
gente puede confiar en él.
Un Scout es Leal. Un Scout es fiel a su familia, amigos,
líderes Scout, escuela y nación.
Un Scout es Servicial. Un Scout se preocupa por los
demás. Él, de buena voluntad se ofrece para ayudar a
los demás sin esperar pago o recompensa.
Un Scout es Amistoso. Un Scout es un amigo para
todos. Él es un hermano para los demás Scouts. Él

Un Scout es Valiente. Un Scout puede enfrentar
el peligro aunque tenga miedo Él tiene el valor de
defender lo que él piensa que está bien aún cuando
los demás se rían de él o lo amenacen.
Un Scout es Limpio. Un Scout mantiene su cuerpo y
su mente en buena condición. él elige la compañía de
aquéllos que viven bajo estándares altos. Él mantiene
limpias su casa y su comunidad.
Un Scout es Reverente. Un Scout es reverente hacia
Dios. él es fiel en sus deberes religiosos. Él respeta las
creencias de los demás.

Pídale a su hijo que le diga qué son el lema y la divisa
del Scout, y que le muestre la señal, el saludo y el

El Lema Scout
Siempre listo
El lema del Scout es “Siempre listo”. Una vez, alguien
le preguntó a Robert Baden-Powell, el fundador del
Scouting, “¿Estar listo para qué?” Baden-Powell contestó
“Para cualquier cosa.” Esta es la idea. El lema Scout
significa estar siempre listo para hacer su deber y encarar
el peligro, si es necesario, y ayudar a los demás.

Saludo del Scout

Hot/Cold Game
Esconda un pequeño animal de peluche en alguna
ubicación del lugar de juntas. Designe a un niño para
buscarlo. A medida que se vaya acercando al peluche,

Apretón de Manos del Scout
Coloque nueve metas en su jardín o en un parque
local. Cuente cuántos pases son necesarios para
alcanzar cada meta. Sume el total de pases que se

El apretón de manos del Scout se con la mano más
cercana al corazón y ofreciéndola como prueba de
amistad. Se estira la mano izquierda hacia otro Scout
y se agarra su mano izquierda firmemente. Los dedos

Postman. Invite a algunos vecinos a jugar con su
familia y su hijo será quien dé las instrucciones.

Los jugadores forman un círculo de pie. A cada uno
se le da el nombre de una ciudad local. El jugador del
centro es el cartero. El líder es el jefe de la oficina de
correos. El jefe nombra dos ciudades. Los jugadores que
llevan el nombre de esas ciudades deben intercambiar
sus lugares mientras el jefe de correos intenta ocupar
un lugar vacante. Si lo consigue, el jugador sin lugar se
vuelve el jefe de correos. Puede que el líder nombre varias
ciudades a la vez. El aviso “Paquete enviado” significa
que todos tienen que cambiar de lugar en el círculo.
