Where your treasure is, there also your heart will be
Luke 12:34
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We all called to be good stewards of all the fits God has given us, and the Untied Catholic Appeal is a excellent way to respond to that call.
This years’ campaign there “Where your treasure is, there also your heart will
be” (Luke 12:34). Gives us insight to the nature of Charity and the importance of our
gifts. We find our highest values and priorities in those things to which we direct our
treasure; our home, our family and friends, and hopefully our Church. Your gift to the
UCA extends your heartfelt support throughout the 26 countries of the Diocese. Your
generosity touches many lives through the ministries, programs, and services of our
local Catholic Church. Among the many areas to which our treasure is directed every
year are; youth, priestly and diaconal formation., comforting the sick and dying, defending life, bringing light into the prison, faith formation, and more.
I hope you take pride knowing that your time, talent, and treasure are for the greater
honor and glory of God and none of this could be possible without your generosity!
May God Bless us all as we live our Baptismal Vocation to serve others. May our
Blessed Mother, Mary, intercede for your continued growth and perseverance in Faith.
Gratefully yours in Christ Jesus, I remain, Most Reverend Patrick J. Zurek
Bishop of Amarillo

For every tree is known by its own fruit.
Luke 6: 44
Each one of us suffers in life – some more often than others and some more deeply than others
– and being the good Christians that we are, there is a tendency to accept this suffering as part
of the cross which Christ implores us to take up every day and follow Him. In many instances
this is the case and we are called to bear the burden of this cross but at other times something
else is going on.
For simplicity we can think of suffering as either necessary or unnecessary – Jesus does ask us
to bear necessary suffering – the Cross – but it was never part of God’s plan for us to suffer
unnecessarily – suffering only entered
the picture after we sinned – after Adam
and Eve were expelled from the
garden. Furthermore, if all suffering
was necessary, why would Jesus
have cured the sick and driven
out demons if not to relieve us of
unnecessary suffering.
Know the tree by the fruit that it

However, if the suffering leads us away from God, if it becomes a roadblock to the kingdom of
God then it is a bad fruit and it is not of God – it is unnecessary suffering and something which
God wishes to heal in us. Addictions, bad habits, recurring sins – these are all bad fruits in our
lives that lead us away from God. Often times they are the cause or the result of our suffering
and often times these bad fruits in our lives can be traced back to an unhealthy root – a wound
or injury in our lives (physical, spiritual, or emotional) or a lie that we have come to believe
about ourselves (I am not worthy of love). These are the sufferings God wishes to heal in our
lives.
Please join us for the Lenten Parish Mission on April 8, 9, & 10 as we explore these topics and
learn how God wishes to heal each one of us.

Cada árbol se reconoce por sus frutos.
Lucas 6: 44

nosotros.
